Enochian Crescent - New Album Details

Enochian Crescent released the following press release last week already:

Six songs in 30 minutes is one way to describe NEF.VI.LIM the new album by Enochian Crescent. The other could be that this is an album loaded with fucking great diabolical Black Metal. The album shall be released worldwide in May 2010. As a preview a free, internet-only single of the song "Lyijysiipi (Wings of Lead)" is released on 23 March.

Founded in 1995 Enochian Crescent celebrate its 15 years of existence with the release of NEF.VI.LIM. This is the first recording where founding members vocalist Wrath and guitarist-vocalist Viktor along with long term drummer Bolton (member since 2001) gang up with last years recruits Tunturituuli (bass) and Vilhelm (guitars).

NEF.VI.LIM is a follow-up to Black Church, an album which was a nominee for the album of the year 2006 category in Finnish Metal Expo and eventually ended up in the top-5 after the votes were counted. Next full-length album, which shall be sung entirely in Finnish, shall be recorded during 2010.

Enochian Crescent is a band that has always chosen its own musical and lyrical path without looking around to see what everyone else is doing. NEF.VI.LIM carries on with this tradition with songs rich in expression and twisted in execution. No song sounds the same as the other yet all are still intriguing and easily identifiable as a part of the EC canon.

NEF.VI.LIM tracklist:

01. Lyijysiipi (Wings of Lead)
02. Mato musta maanalainen (Black Wyrm Below)
03. Muisto sorkasta (Memory of a Cloven Hoof)
04. Ystävämme nukkuu (Our Friend Sleepeth)
05. Golgotha
06. Omega Nefilim

Rush - New Album Next Year

Rush have revealed that an album will be released in 2011 following a tour later this year.

The band have finally confirmed that they are in fact writing and recording a new album, following reports that they may instead release a series of one-off tracks or EPs, and they have also confirmed that they will be out on the road this year. Rush fansite Rushisaband reports that both Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee have been speaking to US and Canadian media about the band's plans.

Geddy spoke to Akron's 97.5 Wone earlier this week, revealing: "We're kind of looking at a kind of a 2 year plan. A little bit of writing now, getting a couple of tracks down. Playing some songs in the summertime on tour that people are not familiar with as well as bringing back a whole range of older songs. And getting quickly back into the studio again and finishing the album and see what the impact of that is."

You can check that interview here.

Lee's revelation follows an interview in the Toronto Globe and Mail with Alex Lifeson, in which the guitarist said: "We were off for a year and a half, and now it's just pouring. Everything is totally crazy and there's not a minute left in the day. We've got these half-dozen songs, and we'll probably go in the studio and work on a couple of them and see how it goes, perhaps release something - and I say perhaps - and then we plan on being on the road in the middle of June. Ideally, we'd like to showcase a couple of these songs on the tour, come off tour in mid-October, go back in the studio and continue writing, then record through late this year and early next year, and then release the album in the spring of 2011 on a slightly more substantial tour. This tour will probably be about 45 dates. Most likely summer, 2011, would be more like 70."

Svartby - Working On New Material

Folk metallers Svartby have issued the following update on their MySpace blog:

"We're glad to announce that Svartby enters the studio on April, 19 to record a small single of 2 brand new songs devoted to imps of Water and Fire elements. The single will be called Scum from Underwater and will include the songs "Scum from Underwater" and "Flaming Balls".

What will be waiting for you on this single? First, these are not complex, thoughtful songs as you experienced at Riv, Hugg och Bit. Scum from Underwater will deliver a pure energy of real fast and furious folk metal.
Second, you will get acquainted with two new Svartby members - Skrik (vocals, bass) and Fenrir (drums). They do big things at gigs, but you never heard them at records before.
Third, it's a hint of what the new album will be like. Both tracks will also participate in the 3rd album Elemental Tales which is planned to be recorded this Autumn.
Fourth, it's a language experiment - our first songs written not in Swedish language.

As we did with all our singles and EP's, Scum from Underwater will also be issued as a web release, available for free downloading."

Abysmal Dawn - Set To Enter The Studio

Abysmal Dawn will begin recording the follow-up album to their Relapse debut Programmed To Consume this May at Trench Studio in Corona, CA with John Haddad (Phobia, Intronaut, Hirax). The album will be mixed by Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal, Vital Remains, Cannibal Corpse) at his Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, FL. A fall release date is expected.

Abysmal Dawn's Charles Elliot commented on the upcoming album: "It's always great to work with John Haddad, whom we've worked with on our previous two releases. This time we thought we'd try something a little different though as far as the mix goes. After to speaking to Erik Rutan at great length we know he's the man for the job. He's a living legend and knows how real death metal should sound! Everyone in the band is really excited to be working with him and we know this is going to be our most crushing release yet. We've been hard at work demoing all the material before we enter the studio and things sound amazing already! This will be our catchiest yet most extreme and technical release to date.

We're also happy to be working with our new drummer Scott Fuller (ex-Havok, ex-Skitzo, ex-Ashes Of Icons). Scott comes from more of a thrash background but was born to play death metal and has never had the outlet for that until now. So far it's been a real pleasure to be in a band with someone with the same fire for this music as Mike and I again. A fitting replacement for Terry with even more chops to boot."

Additional recording details will be made available shortly. Audio samples and video from the band's Programmed To Consume album can be viewed online now via the Abysmal Dawn MySpace.

Icarus Witch - Introduce New Guitarist

Heavy metallers Icarus Witch have issued the following update:

"Many people have mentioned over the last few years that they miss hearing Icarus Witch as a 2 guitar lineup with the harmonies, rhythms and dual leads intact. Our position was that we also enjoy hearing those elements but did not want to inject a new, unknown member into an equation that was already running so smoothly on stage. While on the Paul Di'Anno tour we were fortunate enough to have that 2nd guitar slot for Paul's set filled by a phenomenal talent in Pittsburgh area guitarist, Ed Skero (aka Full Metal Duffy). Performing that challenging set every night with Ed on stage proved a couple of things:

a) We sound better with the additional guitar
b) We got along so well with Ed on a personal level that the chemistry was right to make the move.

So join us in welcoming Mr. Ed to the inner circle. Once you hear what he will bring to the band in terms of classic style, vintage tone, tasty writing and Reiki healing prowess, it will be obvious that the Witch is about to take it up a notch on record and on stage every night. Namaste Duffy... your life is about to get weirder than you ever imagined."

Whitechapel - New Album Details Revealed

Knoxville, Tennessee's Whitechapel is pleased to release the cover art and track listing for their 3rd full-length release (second for Metal Blade), A New Era of Corruption due out June 8th via Metal Blade Records.

"The album is finally 100% complete and we couldn't be more excited. I think this record truly represents where we are as musicians at this point in our career. A New Era of Corruption is the heaviest and most aggressive material we have written to date," comments guitarist and founding member Alex Wade. "Some of you may notice that the title of the new record, A New Era of Corruption, is a line from the song "Possession" off of our last album This Is Exile. We wanted to name the CD this to bring a little flavor from This Is Exile into the new CD, as well as I think the name represents this new age of extreme metal that we are currently rising in. The album is not a concept record like This Is Exile was. It just has its own general theme and each song deals with its own topic track by track."

A New Era of Corruption features guest vocals from Vincent of The Acacia Strain on the track "Murder Sermon" and Chino from the Deftones on the track "Reprogrammed to Hate".

A New Era of Corruption cover art] tracklist:

01. Devolver
02. Breeding Violence
03. The Darkest Day of Man
04. Reprogrammed to Hate
05. End of Flesh
06. Unnerving
07. A Future Corrupt
08. Prayer of Mockery
09. Murder Sermon
10. Nercomechanical
11. Single File to Dehumanization

Within Temptation - Drummer Leaves

Within Temptation will part ways with drummer Stephen van Haestregt at the end of April. Here's the word from the band:

"We are sorry to announce that Stephen and Within Temptation will go their separate ways after the upcoming theatre tour. It isn't easy to say goodbye after all we've been through together. In this period of time many dreams have become reality for all of us and exceeded our highest expectations. Through the good and bad it has created a bond; we've had a wedding, a funeral and have seen each others kids being born and growing-up. Everything passed in a flash and we are looking back on it with a smile.

We would like to thank him and Veroniek for all the great moments, passion and devotion. We wish you the best for the future! You can still see Stephen on stage with the upcoming theatre tour and in the future with his band My Favorite Scar. If you are curious check their website or their MySpace site."

Stephen's goodbye words can be read here.

MetalStorm.ee - Switches To MetalStorm.net

NOTE: This was posted on April Fools day 2010. Although the contents of this news are not entirely true, the .net part entirely is! A real explanation to what has happened can be found here:

http://www.metalstorm.net/events/news_comments.php?news_id=10756

--

Yup, it finally happened. The underground MetalStorm.ee switched to mainstream as fuck MetalStorm.net.

If you think "holy moly, this means the dawn of a new era," well, congratulations, you discovered the pizza truck with a giant satellite dish right in front of your window. It's been camping there for years, but whatever.

The truth is we started selling out years ago - when we turned the zine into a serious corporate business. That's right, it's all political nowadays. We've been accepting money - good money actually - to make bands like Atreyu, Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine and the likes, visible bands on MS for years now.

After the whole Executive management (what you know as the Staff) and the shareholders (aka the Elite team) got a company car as a New Year's bonus (a pitch-black BMW Z4 E85 - aw yeah, we're those kind of guys), we think it's time to show our true colors - or better yet, untrue colors - and switch to MetalStorm.net.

Not joking around this time.

Of course, somewhere deep in your rotten heart, you all wanted this too. Just look at those Band Suggestions you guys are making. The thing is filled with metalcore/deathcore/crapcore bands, scene shit and even Linkin Park. Good going!

So thanks a bunch for those suggestions! We'll think of you next time we pay a speeding ticket (those BWM's are not made to ride by the speeding rules, or what did you think?) with the money we got from In This Moment, The Devil Wears Prada, Bring Me The Horizon and Oceano to make them a visible band, appearing in the news, reviews and interviews all the time... No, that was an April's Fool's joke... we won't be thinking of you.

We announce this news on April 1st because it perfectly fits our long-term strategy in deceiving you. Hell, in the past years we - intentionally - fed you crap like Disco Storm, Blakk Metul Storm, Flower Storm and whatnot, just to make sure you wouldn't believe this conspiracy theory. That's right, we want you to reject belief in this conspiracy. Because this time, it's all true, MetalStorm.net IS happening.

Around MS Corporation, we tell you what to believe and what not - we always have.

Hellfest - Another Legend On The Bill: SLASH!

The full line up was announced on the 25th February, but sometimes surprises can happen! We're pleased and proud to announce that the legendary guitarist of Guns n' Roses and Velvet Revolver SLASH has just confirmed his participation at HELLFEST on Saturday 19th June along with ALICE COOPER, TWISTED SISTER, etc?

Many of you (like us to be honest!) thought that the bill was definitely closed and that there wouldn't be any more additions, but what could we do? Could we refuse to see such a legend on the festival's stage? We decided to give you this little gift which will, for sure, satisfy all the fans of hard rock.

SLASH will be accompanied by famous musicians such as Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge), Bobby Schenck (Slash's Snakepit / Aerosmith), Todd Kerns (Age Of Electric / Sin City Sinners) and Brent Fritz (Theory Of A Deadman / Alice Cooper). He will play songs from his latest solo album and classics of Guns n' Roses and Velvet Revolver.

HELLFEST will be upon us in less than 80 days and tickets are selling really well. This gives us high hopes that the festival should be sold out in advance! You know what you have to do now!

Pretty Maids - New Album Details

Pretty Maids' new studio album Pandemonium will be released on May 14th in Europe, and June 8th in North America via Frontiers.

A 90 second snippet of the single "Little Drops of Heaven" is now available for streaming at this location.

Produced by Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Rob Rock, Beyond Twilight), Pandemonium with its melodic approach is a definite return to the Future World/Red Hot And Heavy era of the eighties, but with an updated sound and freshness that consolidates that Pretty Maids are as strong as ever.

"I think this new record shows the band in it's finest moment", says singer Ronnie Atkins. "That's definitely our best effort in many years and the spirit in the band is higher than ever".

This album also introduces keyboard player Morten Sandager as a permanent member of the band and his impact is evident on the tracks of the CD, particularly on the hauntingly melodic new single "Little Drops of Heaven" which will be released - only as a digital download, as an exclusive teaser leading to the album's release, on April 13th worldwide.

Written in the fall 2009 and recorded in the winter 2010, Pandemonium will be supported by several festival appearances during the summer of 2010 and then followed by a full scale European tour in October/November 2010.

Neaera - To Enter Studio In June

German metalcore act Neaera have issued the following update:

"Hey there, just a quick update from the rehearsal space for you guys: the songwriting process is going fluently, we´re focused and very close to wrapping this thing up! We are very confident about the song material, this one is going to be a beast.

We will enter the studio in June to work on this next record which will be released in the fall of this year via Metal Blade Records. In compliance with the back-to-the-roots approach to this record, we will record the drums at Stage One Studio with the Mr. Myiagi among metal producers, Andy Classen, who already produced our first record, The Rising Tide Of Oblivion. Of course, we will also work again with our good friend Alexander Dietz, the self-proclaimed Brad Pitt among metal producers, on this one. The mixing / mastering will be done by none other than Tue Madsen. We will continue to update you guys as more information unfolds."

Xasthur - Final Album Announced

Malefic, frontman of black metal band Xasthur, announced that Portal of Sorrow is the title of the eighth album. This album will also be the last album that is released under the Xasthur moniker. The Xasthur blog reads:

"This album, Portal of Sorrow, is the last Xasthur album, period. The honorable thing to do is to end the band and not hang around too long, like so many metal/black metal bands do. Enough is enough, right?

I'm not able to make it work anymore. I don't want to turn into one of those bands who rely on too many guests and session musicians to make people interested in their music again. Some help is fine but more than some help is very cheap and it becomes others, not the roots of the band that makes the difference and the music work. I don't want to fall into that pattern. The motivation and inspiration used to be there full time and now it's not there at all, not for doing Xasthur at least. It is a roll or persona that I have simply outgrown. I've been saying I'm sick and tired of it all for too long... and now, I'm going to back it up. There are or have been literally 18,000 black metal bands; it does not matter if there's one less.

Just like in the nineties, I made a few recent attempts to put a real line-up together and it still failed; another sign that said "give it up already".

However, I wanted to end on a better note with this 'Portal of Sorrow' album because the album that came before it, 'All reflections drained', was not up to par and I couldn't finish up with an album that I was less than satisfied with. Now, I suppose any or all goals have been reached and there is nothing more I wish to try with Xasthur and it's time to move on...

Since it would be foolish to give up music all together, I have something else to fall back on that is beginning to take shape. It's a new beginning that I'm quite excited about.

Instead, I'm going to do something different by not performing any kind of metal at all! There's no use in trying to reinvent black metal or turn it upside down, it's all been done and in the end, it's still metal and will remain within those circles, stereotypes and boundaries no matter what. Overall, I need a bigger change in my life and with music than just trying to change metal. There isn't anything to lose.

I would ask you to stay tuned for my next project and give it a plug but there's no need to. It's probably of no interest to you and again, it has nothing to do with metal and I'm not trying to keep any connection or ties to it. I will not name influences, genres or anything of the sort.
