Swallow The Sun - New Drummer Found

Swallow the Sun's new drummer was announced today on the band's website:

"Kai Hahto to play with Swallow the Sun

We are glad to announce that Kai Hahto (Wintersun, ex-Rotten Sound) will be playing drums on our forthcoming album and live shows next summer.

We have known Kai for years, and we have worked with him earlier when he played with us on our North American tour back in 2007. Knowing what he's capable of behind the drum set we are really excited about working with him again. We are confident that he can deliver drum parts that will not only perfectly fit the trademark Swallow the Sun -sound, but take it even further. We'll start rehearsing with him at the end of this month, and we'll keep you posted on how the album is coming up!"

''After a two-year absence from the live arena, Gorgoroth will once again perform their Satanic rituals on stage on August 29, 2009. Gorgoroth will then headline the last night of the 10th anniversary Hole in the Sky Metal Festival in Bergen, Norway, with none other than US doom legends Pentagram as co-headliners! More info on the festival can be found at www.holeinthesky.no. This exclusive Gorgoroth concert will be held in tribute of the band's former drummer Erik "Grim" Brødreskift (1966-1999). Dimmu Borgir - Allied With Terminal Press To Release Comic

Dimmu Borgir posted the following announcement on their Facebook page:

"DIMMU BORGIR - TERMINAL PRESS SUMMONS THE FURY OF BLACK METAL WITH 'DARK FORTRESS'

Terminal Press and Nuclear Blast Records have teamed up for one of the most brutal comics of the year with "Dimmu Borgir: Dark Fortress." This is the first in a series of books influenced by the lyrical, artistic and musical concepts from Nuclear Blast's polarizing roster of bands translated into the comic medium by the creative teams at Terminal Press.

Three reluctant men are chosen to quest to the Dark Fortress in a desperate attempt to protect their land from a growing evil. Despite a legend warning that the harsh land built upon lava fields is actually the gateway to Hell, they make their way across the treacherous path, encountering horrors, madness and death along the way. The three men will either survive the journey and learn the secret behind the legend of the Dark Fortress, or meet a most gruesome demise.

"Dimmu Borgir: Dark Fortress" utilizes the artistic vision and lyrical themes of the biggest Black Metal band in the world, DIMMU BORGIR, to create a powerful and thought-provoking fantasy horror comic book.

"I am artistically influenced and more passionate about metal music than any other genre or medium" says Terminal Press publisher and writer Brian Ferrara. "This is a project that I have always wanted to do and have thought about for years. I wanted to bring metal bands into comics in a way that would do them justice. These are books for fans of the bands, but they will also be able to stand on their own."

"Dimmu Borgir: Dark Fortress" is written by Brian Ferrara (Silent Assassin, Debbie Does Dallas), with art by Narek Gevorgian (Silent Assassin, Tell Them Johnny Wadd is Here).

A "Dimmu Borgir: Dark Fortress" preview book containing original artwork and pin-ups created specifically for this edition will be available as a San Diego Comic Con Exclusive at the Nuclear Blast Records booth (#116). The Limited Edition print run will only be available at the convention and through TerminalPress.com.http://www.terminalpress.com/

"Dimmu Borgir: Dark Fortress" will be available later this year from Terminal Press. A promo image is available here.

De Profundis - Part Ways With Bassist, Replacement Announced

Death doom metallers De Profundis have posted the following statement on their website about the departure of their bassist and announcing the replacement:

"Hailz,

De Profundis and bassist Aleksej Obradovic have parted ways after more than 3 years of successful collaboration due to musical differences. Additionally, Aleksej's job commitments would have made it very hard for the band to go touring or to perform live on a regular basis. The split was amicable and we remain on good terms with Aleksej.

De Profundis would like to thank Aleksej for his contribution to the band and wish him the best of luck in his future musical endeavours.

A replacement bass player has already been found. We have been fortunate enough to secure Arran McSporran's services as a new full-time band member. Arran will be laying down all the bass tracks on the new De Profundis album, due to be recorded in June 2009 with producer Fernando Pereira. Arran will be making his live debut with De Profundis at Romania's Rock City Open Air 2009 Festival.

We will be shortly announcing several more festival dates this summer.

Roman / De Profundis"

Swallow The Sun - Part Ways With Drummer

Finnish metallers Swallow The Sun have issued the following update:

"There is no easy way to phrase this, so let's get straight to the point: due to a mutual decision Pasi Pasanen will no longer be playing with Swallow The Sun.

Pasi, as one of the founding members, has been an integral part of the development of the band and it's sound since the beginning back in 2000. We have had good times, recorded 4 excellent albums and done unbelievable amounts of touring together, but now it's time for us to go on our separate ways.

Here's Pasi's comments on the situation: "Lately, I've been having a lack of motivation towards this kind of music and touring. The guys have felt it too and there's no point for me to deny it. It just affects the chemistry in the band too much, so it is time for me to step aside. I've gotten many good friends and some of the best experiences ever touring with StS. About 200 shows in 21 countries is something I never thought I'd get to do, so I want to thank & hail all the great people, friends, bands we've toured with and especially Juha, Jämy, Martti, Aleksi and Mikko for these years. And I'm sure you fans wont be disappointed with the future Swallow The Sun. Me and Juha will continue working together in Plutonium Orange, and you never know what other things the future brings, so: cheers everyone, see you somewhere!"

We wish him well in everything, and Pasi will continue to play with Juha in Plutonium Orange - which is the band that got Swallow The Sun started in the first place - and they are just finishing their debut album.

For what it comes to upcoming shows and the new album nothing will change. We won't cancel any shows, and we will enter Fascination Street studios 15th of June to record our next album. More information about everything will follow soon."

3 Inches Of Blood - Sign With Century Media Records

Century Media Records press release

One of the biggest defenders of traditional heavy metal, 3 Inches Of Blood, has crafted a new album that is soon to be hailed as the gospel of all things heavy. Century Media Records is proud to welcome these metal warriors to its worldwide family roster and fans can expect their massively anticipated new full-length release this fall.

Cam Pipes (vocals) further comment: "Ever since our departure from our previous label, Century Media has been in the forefront trying to get us to sign with them. No other label showed as much enthusiasm and belief in our band as they did. Right from the start we all got a great feeling from the whole Century Media team. We feel comfortable with the vision they have for us and are confident they have the necessary tools and motivation to help us in the ways our previous label didn't. We can't wait to unleash this new material upon the masses."

3 Inches Of Blood entered Seattle's London Bridge Studios to commence the recording process in mid April with renowned producer Jack Endino (High On Fire). The group took a break from the studio for a slew of high profile shows with genre leaders Slipknot and stay tuned to www.myspace.com/3iob for video updates and studio reports.

Cam Pipes further states: "The show with Slipknot were absolutely amazing. Any band would be fortunate to get to play in front of their crowd and because we are such a different band than Slipknot. This was an excellent opportunity for us to put ourselves in front of people who have never heard us before and make some new fans. Obviously, Joey Jordison (Slipknot drummer), our friend and past producer, had a part in getting us on these shows and we are massively grateful to him and everyone else that made it happen."

Born out of a love for pure metal, weaned on a diet of fantasy and mythology, 3 Inches Of Blood have been slaying the infidel for nearly a decade. In that time, they've released three albums and splattered the ground with crimson streaks while on tour with such acclaimed acts as Satyricon, The Black Dahlia Murder, Motörhead and Cradle Of Filth, just to name a few. These are mighty accomplishments for dedicated warriors from Vancouver, British Columbia, a region that's not exactly the Camelot of heavy metal. With their last album, "Fire Up The Blades", they have surpassed even their own manly exploits, crafting a number of undeniable anthems that crash, rip and roar like a Medieval skirmish.
