Glittertind - Two New Songs Online

Norwegian metal band Glittertind have uploaded two new songs, from the band's upcoming new album "Landkjenning" on their Myspace page.

The band added the following song info:

Nordafjells (Mountains in the North): While journeying through the mountains in the north, a Norse fortune teller is engulfed by a vicious snowstorm and experiences a vision: A mountain grouse lends the traveler its wings and ears, enabling him to sense the entirety of the land and forthcoming events. He sees the coming of Olav Tryggvason and the end of his time, as foreign religion and culture will encroach upon his land.

Longships and Mead: In an age seemingly dominated by self-assertion and greed, we often long with a nostalgic view for the times when men of the sea shared a common spirit of brotherhood and glory. Whatever happened to such sentiments in our times?

"Landkjenning" release dates:

27 May: Finland, Spain
29 May: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux, France, Italy, Sweden
01 Jun: Rest of Europe
02 Jun: USA, Canada

One Man Army And The Undead Quartet - Guitarist Quits

Vocalist Johan Lindstrand of One Man Army And The Undead Quartet has issued the following update:

"On the first of April 2009 our longtime friend and bandmember Mikael Lagerblad decided to quit the band. His thoughts has been towards this decision for a while now even though we haven't seen it coming. But being in this band is of course all about free will. If you don't feel comfortable in being in a band that plays extreme music and loving every minute of it, then you shouldn't be in the band.

Mikael has written a lot of good songs for this band but one should know that his contribution only has covered around 35-40% of the total Army catalouge. That means that we without doubt will be able to continue writing new great Army stuff for the future, despite this setback. I mean, for example, 95% of the first album " 21st Century Killing Machine" was written without him so this situation isn't something new and scary that will bring us down. It's of course a sad thing but not the end of the world.

For the next couple of months We have brought a session guitarist into the band that will help us out during some of the already booked shows that we have. So if you are worried that we will start canceling shows you should stop worrying. One Man Army doesn't quit. Setbacks like this always makes this killing machine stronger and stronger. We will play as much as possible for the "Grim Tales" touring cycle so c'mon, keep those bookings coming.

Our session guitar player is a guy named Rune Foss who also plays with both drummer Marek Dobrowolski and guitarist Mattias Bolander in their other band Reclusion. He is a great guitar player and a great guy on the personal level so doing a couple of shows with him throughout Europe will be a blessing. Mattias will handle all the solos at the moment. He is originally a lead guitarist and this task will come very natural for him. We definitely have an interesting time in front of us.

But of course, in time we will need a new fulltime member so this is the chance for YOU to proove that you belong in this great band. We only pay attention to Swedish applications. This for obvious reasons. It's kinda hard to rehearse with people that lives a million miles away from you. Lead or rhythm. Contact us anyway if you belive you are great in what you do."

Mikael Lagerblad added in a final statement: "After three albums and almost five years in the band, I have decided to quit. It has been a great time and I'm proud of the music that we have created. Even though One Man Army has been a big part of my life, I feel I'm ready to move on. During the last couple of months my motivation and inspiration has not been at the high level it used to be. It might sound like a cliché, but there's no bad blood between us and I'm comfortable with mydecision.

The Batallion - Replace Meshuggah At Inferno Festival

The Batallion will replace Meshuggah at this years Inferno festival. The Batallion will go on at 21:15h Thursday 9th april on the main stage, Rockefeller venue.

A message on the festival website reads as follows: since Meshuggah drummer Tomas Haake's back injury Link] requires surgery and rest, they had to cancel their gig at Inferno (and all other live gigs for the next couple of months - for more details about the cancelled gigs, click here).

Six days before the festival kicks off, the last thing any festival needs is to lose a headliner - but what can you do but try to find a replacement? With this little time, we can't possibly get another headliner in place so we decided to book another band, and rearrange the Thursday lineup so Pestilence now will headline and Septicflesh play their original slot.

Our saviours this year has pleased Inferno crowds with their powerhouse live performance before, and were incredibly enough able to threaten all their members into playing.

The Batallion boasts members from bands like Old Funeral, Borknagar, Taake, Grimfist and Bombers and set out with a mission - to bring masculinity and pure energy to the stage with their take on thrashy oldschool metal. Nobody's tougher than these guys - don't take our word for it, see for yourself @ Inferno Thursday!

Norwegians who purchased a Thursday ticket to see Meshuggah only can visit their local post office to get their ticket refunded. Foreigners who want a refund will have to send an e-mail to tickets infernofestival net.

Click here to view the altered line up.

Iced Earth - An Update From Jon Schaffer

Jon Schaffer and IcedEarth.com got together on March 13, 2009 for an update on the band's forthcoming live DVD as well Jon's plans for the immediate future. The interview was posted a few days ago already, and here are the main talking points of the interview are outlined below, while the audio interview can be downloaded here (mp3 format, 8.4 MB).

Regarding the immediate plans for Iced Earth:

"Well, right now I'm wrapping up the post-production for the, "Festivals Of The Wicked" DVD which I expect will come out late Summer or Fall of this year. I don't know that for sure, it depends on when we wrap things up, but that's the plan. That's the next project.

Iced Earth is going to be taking some downtime. I've been very, very busy. I haven't taken any kind of vacation in six years and I have been non-stop Iced Earth for three-and-a-half years - from the beginning of the writing of both of these records through the recording, the touring - and there has been a lot of touring... it's just time. I need to step back from it a little bit. And I've got other things planned for this year which I'll be announcing in due course, but my goals are for right now are to get the DVD finished and (then) to get away completely - no cell phones, no e-mail, no contact with the outside world, just me and my family at a very nice isolated place, no music business, no nothing, and it's going to be awesome. That's going to be cool and I plan to come back completely recharged and ready to kill."

Regarding the kind of projects Jon will be working on after returning from vacation:

"You're going to have to wait and find out my man. I mean, I'm just not ready to divulge yet. I've got a few irons in the fire and some things I'm very excited about. Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian) and I have planned late in 2009 to get together to do Demons And Wizards stuff so that's going to be cool. We saw each other in Cologne (earlier this year) and made plans and I think it's realistic to say that there will be a third Demons And Wizards album probably mid- to late 2010. We're going to have two song writing sessions. We are committed to doing the bulk of this in-person. One of the things I felt like from the last Demons And Wizards album was that we had this window of opportunity where we had to get it done and we kind of let time dictate the schedule instead of our feelings and that was probably a mistake. I mean I'm proud of that record ("Touched by the Crimson King" 2005) and it sold killer and it's a good album but I think Hansi and I are capable of a lot more especially when we get back to the root reasons of why we did this thing together.

Axamenta - Reform To He Came From The Sun

Out of the ashes of what once was Axamenta, sprouts He Came From The Sun.

The leaving of Peter was a widespread phenomenon, but as you will have noticed, guitarist Sven Deckers left the band as well. Though his supporting the band will not end, he will be focusing on the graphical part of it all.

Sven comments: "During the past year or so, my motivation and interests were shifting more and more towards my other ongoing musical project, City Of Caesars, and I have decided after a very long period of doubt, th at I would make place for someone who is way more motivated to take on the musical aspect of the band. It's what they need, and what they deserve. I hope in this way, the finish line will be made, 'cause it is going to be f0xing CRAZY!"

The band is currently in search for a new guitarist.

A 3 minute teaser of the new sound and the new He Came From The Sun line-up can be found at http://www.hecamefromthesun.com.
