Annihilator - First Live Album To Be Remastered

Metal Mind Productions press release:

"For many fans Annihilator was always the silent hero of thrash metal. They never got the same attention as Megadeth, Metallica or Slayer, but when musical critics predicted the end of thrash metal by the end of the 80's, they shut their mouths with one of the most intense thrash metal releases ever - "Alice In Hell". The album was a brilliant mixture of melody, power and aggression - everything a thrash metal band could ever wish for in their debut. Annihilator's next offering, "Never, Neverland", was proof that the debut was not made by accident - the album delivered the same amount of sheer thrash madness, backed by some extremely melodic riffs and solos. After these two releases the group continued their career with various line-up changes (eventually leaving guitarist Jeff Waters the only original member), but every album recorded after 1990 had a totally different vibe than the first two releases. Perhaps that was the reason why in 1996 Roadrunner Records decided to put out a live album covering the period from 1989 to 1990, by many fans considered Annihilator's strongest years. "In Command" brilliantly captures the band at the beginning of their musical voyage, when all that mattered was the joy of playing thrash metal and kicking some ass!

Annihilator's live LP to this day remains an unforgettable musical experience, perfectly capturing the power and the energy of this unique thrash phenomenon. The period between 1989 and 1990 brought two of the group's most praised and respected albums, both filled with unforgettable metal anthems. "In Command" will take you back to where it all started - to the birth of a thrash metal legend!!

New digipak edition of "In Command (live 1989-1990)" will be released by Metal Mind Productions on 19th May 2008 in Europe and 8th July 2008 in USA (via MVD). The album digitally remastered using 24-Bit process on golden disc is limited to numerated 2000 copies."

"Well, thats it. We've recorded everything and now we have to let go of it. It is in the more than capable hands of the producer, Mick 'Ginger Cunt' Kenney of Anaal Nathrakh infamy. If you can imagine the crispness of the grindbastard album with the ferocity of Anaal Nathrakh on a disc then you will get the idea of what is to come. Thanks to everyone who popped in on the recording sessions to give support and drink our free beer! We look forward to hearing the finished product once mick has weaved his ginger magic on our baby."

Attacker - Announce New Vocalist

As posted on the MySpace page of the US Power metal band:

"New Jersey metallers Attacker have announced the addition of Walter Figueroa to the group's ranks. Figueroa is the former lead singer of Severed Hand (a band that features Sebastian Bach's son on drums) and he recently did a stint as vocalist for 1980s metal cover band Smell The Glove (which features Seven Witches and current Joey Belladonna guitarist Jack Frost). Walter Figueroa has also been involved with hard rock band Imprecari and progressive rock/metal band Paradox (New Jersey).

Walter Figueroa's influences include Geoff Tate, Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson, and Tony Harnell. These influences can clearly be heard in Figueroa's soaring, powerful voice.

Attacker states: "Walter came down and did a fantastic job on the material, so we knew we had to look no further. We had several people recommend Walter to us and they were right on the money. We are all looking forward to working on our new album and hitting the stage as soon as possible."

(Thanks to Hellish Star for pointing this out in the forum)

Avantasia - Live Line-Up Revealed

Tobias Sammet has posted the following statement on his official website:

"How are you doing? It's been a while since I have been speaking to you. I'd like to take the opportunity to thank you for your great support. "The Scarecrow" is an album that means a lot to me and it was quite a commercial risk to just follow my heart instead of doing exactly what people expected. But if I take a look at the chart positions and sales - it went into the album charts in 16 countries, hitting the Top10 in four countries - it seems like you appreciate my honesty! Thank you!

Now preparing for the festival summer with Avantasia seems so surreal. Avantasia has never been on stage before and all of the sudden we are headlining the biggest festivals in the world, just been confirmed for the Sziget festival in Hungary on the 13th of August, playing amongst legendary bands such as R.E.M., die Ärzte, Iron Maiden and the Sex Pistols. Amazing!

The Avantasia line up will be Jorn Lande, André Matos, Amanda Somerville, Olli Hartmann, Bob Catley (not all shows), Sascha Paeth, Miro, Robert Hunecke, Claudy Yang and Frank Lindenthal who is gonna replace Eric Singer who'll be playing with KISS. Despite all rumors Michael Kiske will not be there, as he didn't wanna do it and I respect that! We'll put on a huge epic show anyway. Nobody has done something like that before and I swear, nobody will ever forget the event, neither you nor us!!!"

Avantasia tour dates are currently as follows:

07.06.2008 SWE, Sölvesborg - Sweden Rock Festival 2008
06.06.2008 SUI, Huttwil - Rocksound Festival
10.06.2008 RUS, Moscow
13.06.2008 JPN, Tokyo
15.06.2008 MEX, Mexico City
18.06.2008 ARG, Buenos Aires
20.06.2008 CHI, Santiago
22.06.2008 BRA, Sao Paulo
04.07.2008 SER, Smederevo - Castle Festival
10.07.2008 CZE, Vizovice - Masters Of Rock
12.07.2008 ESP, Zaragoza - Monsters Of Rock / Metal Way 2008
26.07.2008 ITA, Milan - Rockin' Field Festival
01.08.2008 GER, Wacken - Wacken Open Air 2008
12.08.2008 HUN, Budapest - Sziget Festival

Edguy - Preparing For Their Next Album

Edguy are currently preparing to hit the studio to work on the successor of their recent album "Rocket Ride".

Vocalist Tobias Sammet has posted the following update:

"People think that we are quite fast but that's not the truth. I completed the Avantasia album last autumn, the Avantasia songwriting itself was completed even way back in 2006. All the new ideas I've had since then could be taken for Edguy. In fact, this is a long time to refresh your creativity and gather new stuff. The material sounds very fresh, it embraces all the different trademarks of Edguy, I think it is a logical continuation of Rocket Ride and Hellfire Club. Maybe it doesn't come across as goofy as Rocket Ride, but I am sure if we have fun in the studio we'll have enough possibilities to ruin the day for notoriously bitter people, haha. Yet it's more bombastic and heavier, not too fast cause I really don't like pure Speed Metal that much anymore. I like Lavatory Love Machine, The Piper Never Dies, Mandrake and Sacrifice. There's three fast tracks, but they are all good, not 'just fast'! We'll enter the studio next week and work whenever producer Sascha Paeth and me come back from the Avantasia weekends."

Necrophagist - New Drummer, Frontman Launches Side Project

Necrophagist have issued the following update on their official website:

"Romain Goulon joins Necrophagist as the official new drummer. The band and Romain look forward to working together on the new album. Meanwhile, check out a video of Romain playing to guitar tracks from the album "Epitaph" at Necrophagist's official YouTube channel.

The band wants to thank 'human metronome' Marco Minnemann for playing drums on last year's Summer Slaughter tour. It was an honor and a lot of fun playing with one of the world's greatest drummers.

However, Marco Minnemann and Muhammed Suicmez decided to launch a whole new band. Commented Muhammed: "I am very excited about this, because jamming with Marco inspires me to come up with great ideas and I have a lot of respect for Marco as a composer. So forging a whole new style by mixing mine and his is something I can't wait to do, because not only is Marco one of the best drummers in the world, he is a great guitarist also."

Stay tuned for news updates about the writing process for Necrophagist's new album as well as Marco and Muhammed's new band."
