Ravage - New Album Details

Boston Massachusetts metalers Ravage are ready to unleash their Metal Blade Records debut, "The End of Tomorrow" on August 18th 2009. Artwork was handled by the famed artist Ed Repka who is known best for his Megadeth covers as well as cover art for Death, Municipal Waste, Toxic Holocaust, and Austrian Death Machine. "The End of Tomorrow" seamlessly intertwines the sounds of New Wave of British Heavy Metal, late 80's American Thrash Metal and late 90's European power metal to showcase the band's signature style. The album is sure to be enjoyed by metal maniacs young and old as it blends the soaring vocal and guitar melodies of Iron Maiden and Helloween with the raw power of thrashers like Testament and Kreator, presented in a crisply modern production-style courtesy of producer Peter Rutcho.

Here's what vocalist Al Ravage has to say; "This album has been a very, very long time in the making and we'd like to thank Metal Blade for giving traditional, no-bullshit, American heavy metal a chance again. Also thanks to Peter Rutcho for his great production work on the album (giving new life and freshness to a classic sound), and Ed Repka (for inviting you all to share a glimpse into Ravage's corner of the singularly demented alternate reality he has created with mere brush strokes). 'The End' is finally near! Get ready to Ravage and we'll see you on tour this fall."

"The End of Tomorrow" cover art] tracklisting:

01. The Halls of Madness
02. Reign Fall
03. Freedom Fighter
04. Damn Nation
05. The Shredder
06. Into The Shackles
07. In Shattered Dreams
08. The Nightmare's Hold: Part 1
09. Nightcrawler
10. The Nightmare's Hold: Part 2
11. Grapes of Wrath
12. The End of Tomorrow

"The End of Tomorrow" is only the beginning for Ravage, who are only in their mid-20's, despite having played together for over 10 years! Expect to see Ravage's Metal Blade debut, "The End of Tomorrow", to drop August 18th with touring leading up to and throughout the release of the album.

Arch Enemy - Re-Records Album Later This Year

The big news in the Arch Enemy camp is that Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Testament, Exodus, etc.) has completed the mixing and mastering of the new Arch Enemy record, "The Root Of All Evil". This special release features a seIection of completely re-recorded songs from the first three Arch Enemy albums, "Black Earth", "Stigmata" and "Burning Bridges", and will be released via Century Media Records on September 28th in Europe and October 6th in North America.

Guitarist Michael Amott comments: "This one took some time to get done, despite the fact that the actual songs were already written a good few years ago! The album was recorded at a few different locations locally here in Sweden - produced by Arch Enemy, with Daniel Erlandsson (drums) handling a lot of the engineering. It was then sent to Andy Sneap in England for the mixing/mastering and I simply can't stop listening to this since I got the final mixes!"

In the light of Arch Enemy finding their defining line-up and a bigger worldwide recognition with 2002's "Wages Of Sin" album, it has been a logical decision to look into updating and upgrading the earlier compositions, to be able to present them in the splendour of a 2009 shape.

Regarding further details of the process, Michael Amott adds: "We basically headed down to our rehearsal studio, got reacquainted with the tunes, picked out our favorites and proceeded to give a breath of new life to those early songs, with the idea to have the possibility to re-add them to the live set and follow up with some touring activity! I'm loving hearing these songs with a fresh new sound and performance, everyone in the band did a killer job on it - especially Angela's vocal performance is astoundingly intense and brutal and it was also cool to hear Sharlee lay down some great bass tracks on the early songs! The production and mix is crushing and heavy as hell - it really makes these old songs shine - it sounds like a brand new thing!".

More details on "The Root Of All Evil" will be available in the coming weeks.

Fallen Martyr - New EP Out, Songs Streaming

Official press release

Fallen Martyr's eagerly awaited EP, "The Six Roots of True Will," has been released on the band's website. Due to popular demand for their live show, the band was invited to debut songs from their EP on the main stage of what promises to be the most extreme U.S. tour of the year, the Summer Slaughter Tour. Additional tour dates on the East Coast will follow.

Inspired by the classic work of Dream Theater, Testament and Arch Enemy, the band also draws upon the progressive influence of Opeth to deliver a new sound. Lead guitarist, Gabriel, describes Fallen Martyr as a band without inhibitions, freely melting the forms of metal into artwork that cannot be replicated or replayed in less than five minutes on the stage.

"Metal is starting to sound the same now-a-days. I don't want to define a genre. I want to start my own. That's how I've always felt," Gabriel said. "It's all about challenging and pushing yourself, and in that aspect we take pride in ourselves."

As the ranks of metal bands continue to break into the mainstream today, the underground band, Fallen Martyr is rapidly shredding through a growing number of speakers cranked to capacity. After completely forming as a band of five, the songs on the EP came naturally to the band. It only took a few more live shows for fans in Baltimore's Sonar Nightclub, to vote Fallen Martyr onto the main stage of the Summer Slaughter Tour for a show.

The band's singer, Ryan, from the Musician's Institute in Hollywood, uses crushing screams and carefully timed melodic interludes to help every song naturally rise and fall. Gabriel, one of the band's founding members, duals with the second lead guitarist, Mikey, to add cascading solo assaults to every song. The music is propelled by the powerful drumming of Jake, and the band's second founding member, Doug, on the bass.

"We are all different and have certain extremes that are different than the other... but we just click and we balance each other out," Gabriel said. "We don't do something singularly... we aren't just a death metal band, we aren't just a thrash band - we aren't just one thing. We play what we like to hear and it turns out sounding like this.

"Music should be musical, and people should be able to leave a Fallen Martyr concert wanting to hear the songs again. We practice all the time, and want people to see it first hand at a show," Gabriel said.

Behemoth - New Album Details Revealed

Original news, posted on 19.05.2009

Polish blackened death metal band Behemoth has announced a new artwork and release date for an upcoming album ''Evangelion''. The new album is scheduled for relase on August 7 via Nuclear Blast in Europe and August 11 via Metal Blade in US. Album artwork can be viewed here: http://www.behemoth.pl/en/index.php?type=hi.

Commented Nergal:

"Evangelion combines a pure art form with a direct message. It was also important for us to ensure that the graphical presentation did justice to the record. Again, we have worked with Tomasz Danilowicz who has created his best illustration yet for Behemoth. The picture is of The Great Harlot of Babylon riding the seven-headed beast. Saints bow before her in worship whilst the tablets of the Ten Commandments lie broken at her feet. It represents our vision and the interpretation of the New Testament parable where the "Whore of Babylon" is a symbol of rebellion and resistance against God. I am fascinated by stories whose source lies in the Bible and we have used biblical symbolism, coupled with my own experience and outlook, in our lyrics or on the covers of previous Behemoth records. I love to juggle with meanings and play around with symbolism which is exactly what I have done in this case. The main character of our new cover is an archetype of disobedience, individualism, self-determination and a free, unfettered will - these are universal keywords which are typical and crucial in understanding the character of our works, life as a whole and the true nature of man."

UPDATE (Source: blabbermouth)

Behemoth will release their ninth full-length studio album, "Evangelion", on August 7 in Europe via Nuclear Blast Records and August 11 in North America through Metal Blade. The CD was mixed at Miloco Studios in London, England by Colin Richardson, who has previously worked with Machine Head, Slipknot, Napalm Death and Bullet For My Valentine among many others.

"Evangelion" tracklisting:

01. Daimonos
02. Shemaforash
03. Ov Fire And The Void
04. Transmigrating Beyond Realms Ov Amenti
05. He Who Breeds Pestilence
06. The Seed Ov I
07. Alas, Lord Is Upon Me
08. Defiling Morality Ov Black God
09. Lucifer

The digipack edition will include a bonus DVD with behind-the-scenes footage and expanded artwork.

Widescreen Mode - To Release Sophomore Album In April

Dark Sentiments and Playground Music Scandinavia are set to release Widescreen Mode's highly anticipated sophomore album, "The Hanging Man," on April 8. "The Hanging Man" is the follow up to 2007's "Until the End," which contained the singles, "Everlasting Bomb" and "Dead Inside," both which received massive radio airplay in Scandinavia and topped the singles charts for several weeks. "Everlasting Bomb" was #1 on the Finnish iTunes charts for 16 consecutive weeks in 2007, and "Dead Inside" reached #1 on the Finnish Top 40 in 2008.

"The Hanging Man" showcases a more aggressive and versatile side of Widescreen Mode, while staying true to the band's signature sound and hooks. The album's concept came together on the road as the band played the summer metal festivals. Musically, "The Hanging Man" is return to their metal roots.

Drummer Janne Aaltonen says, "While we were touring we started to scavenge the dusty corners of our record collections and listened to all the gems from bands like Testament, Sepultura and Slayer. We wanted to let go of our old routines, move into some darker grounds and do something really surprising. The old elements are still there, but in the arrangements we really let the demons loose."

"Serotonin," the first single from "The Hanging Man," is now streaming on Widescreen Mode's MySpace page. "Serotonin" provides fans with a first look at Widescreen Mode's new material. The digital single will be available on February 20, and income from the single sales will be donated to charities supporting youth mental health care.

"The song started with the lyrical concept," adds Aaltonen. "Many people deal with serious depression that goes unnoticed by those around them. We are all slaves of this transmitter ruling our brains. 'Serotonin' might not portray the whole package, but it definitely creates a certain bridge between the previous album and the new one."

A video for "Serotonin" was shot in Finland and directed by Markus Aaltonen. The video will be serviced everywhere shortly. The video looks to build on the audience for "Dead Inside," which received airplay in the United States on Fuse and MTV2 last year.

"The Hanging Man" was produced by Jani Loikas and Aksu Hanttu (Entwine, Poisonblack) at Petrax and Sonic Pump Studio. The album was mixed by Aksu Hanttu and mastered by Svante Forsbäck at Chartmakers.

Susperia - Sign With Candlelight Records

Candlelight Records press release

Candlelight today confirms the worldwide signing of Susperia. Currently finishing work on their fifth album, the band recently announced a string of early spring UK dates that will kick off what is expected to be a busy year for the popular Norwegian metal band. "Ten years and still the same five guys," exclaims vocalist Athera of the band's long commitment to their music. "We have worked nearly two years on this material, perfecting it for your pleasure and our devoted fans. It will take you back to the early days with melancholic riffing and dark emotional vocals. It's a perfect blend of everything Susperia has been and become."

"A blend of thrash metal drawing on influences that include Sepultura, Anthrax, and Testament," says Allmusic.com of Susperia's now highly regarded sound. The popular music portal continues its early 2005 review noting "their songs are melodic yet intense and forceful, and shredding guitars are the rule." Formed in 1998 by drummer Tjodalv (then of Dimmu Borgir) and guitarist Cyrus (then of Satyricon/Old Man's Child), the band released their debut, "Predominance", via Nuclear Blast in 2001. The band's much-acclaimed second album, "Vindication", followed in 2003. Signing with Norwegian-based Tabu Records (with release in the US via Candlelight Records) in 2004, the band released their third album, "Unlimited", later that year. Brave Words Bloody Knuckles called the album, "a scorcher from start to finish, on par with Testament classic The Gathering."

A powerful live act, the band has consistently remained focused to the live arena. With numerous high profile support, headline and festival appearances, one of the band's most cherished experiences thus far remains supporting the newly reformed Testament in late 2005. The dates would culminate in the release of the band's Norwegian charting mini-album "Devil May Care". Work on their fourth album, "Cut From Stone", would see out the end of the year. Unfortunately due to financial constraints two tries to visit the US to support the Daniel Bergstrand-produced album during 2007/08 would set back the album's overall sales target but the band remained committed. Touring Europe, including numerous dates with W.A.S.P., the band's ambitions stayed and continue to remain in tact. "We now have the backing of one label worldwide and this is going to make life easier for us," says bassist Memnock. "We hope that finally we get to play to our American fans."

Testament - Recruit Guitarist For Upcoming Mexico Tour

Testament have recruited guitarist Glen Drover (ex-Megadeth, King Diamond) to fill in for Alex Skolnick on their upcoming Mexican tour dates with Judas Priest.

Due to Alex's prior commitment to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, the band sought out Glen Drover to fill in. The band rehearsed together all week and sounds sharper than ever!

Glen Drover says, "I am really looking forward to playing these four upcoming shows in Mexico with my buddies in Testament, along with Judas Priest. We are totally going to crush!"

Guitarist Alex Skolnick commented on his (temporary) replacement: "I regret that I'll be unable to perform at Testament's upcoming shows in Mexico this month. As many know, I've been touring with Trans-Siberian Orchestra since 2000, and it's been a blessing to be a part of both projects since reuniting with Testament in '05. I respect the Testament guys' decision to accept some gigs during this period, and I'm super happy to have Glen Drover filling in for me. I recommended him personally, respect his playing and know he'll do a great job. I apologize to any Testament fans for not being able to make it this time around but we have a lot of shows lined up in 2009 so far, all of which I'm on. Thanks for understanding, and I look forward to seeing everyone all over the world with Testament in 2009!"

Eric Peterson (guitarist) commented: "I've known Glen since he played with King Diamond, and if anyone can jump in, Glen can. Plus, Alex is happy with our choice."
