Celtic Frost - Statement Regarding Curfew During UK Dates

Statement from Celtic Frost regarding UK Set Duration:

"While already on the road on the European leg of the "Monotheist" tour, we were informed of strict curfews to our co-headlining shows with Kreator in the UK. These curfews have been imposed locally and are not a stipulation by either Celtic Frost or Kreator. As a matter of fact, we oppose these curfews explicitly, and we have informed both our management and our concert agency accordingly. There is little we can do, however.

Celtic Frost and Kreator and the bands' representatives have spent months trying to assemble an appropriate and exciting touring package of four bands that cover a wide variety of contemporary metal. We loathe the fact that we are now finally back out on the road - in Celtic Frost's case, for the first time in some 17 years - and have to discover that the local booker and promoters in the UK impose curfews so unrealistically strict that it is impossible to put on the regular performances by all four bands on the bill as played everywhere else in Europe. Apparently, some of the UK venues book two events during certain nights, i.e., in this case our tour and another event. This will yield twice the profits for them in one night, but it also means that the first event, namely our tour, will have to clear the venue at an unreasonably early hour, as early as 9:30 or 10:00pm.

There appears to be no proper solution to this situation. Both headliners are categorically unwilling to cancel the performances of either our opening act or special guest, Watain and Legion Of The Damned, in order to play full headlining sets. Just like us, Watain and Legion of the Damned have travelled thousands of miles and gone through great expenses to play all of Europe. The local booker and promoters in the UK are equally unwilling to extend their ludicrous curfews, even for a mere 30 minutes. The alternative, so we are informed, would be a cancelled concert.

Having all four bands play at least a semblance of a set means that the duration of all sets will be severely restricted. In case of Celtic Frost and Kreator, this means sets of 60 minutes, in case of Watain and Legion of the Damned, sets of 20 minutes. This applies to the following shows: Glasgow, Bradford, Wolverhampton, Cardiff, and Nottingham. All bands involved believe that playing a set is better than cancelling any show. That we all are extremely frustrated, if not to say furious, about this situation is obvious."

Thyrfing - Line Up Changes

The following message has been put on the official website of Swedish Viking Metal band Thyrfing:

"After a decade in the band, both Thomas Väänänen and Henrik Svegsjö have decided to leave Thyrfing. They have informed us that they lack the motivation needed for another album. We have split ways on good terms, and would like to thank them for all these great years."

With this being said, we hereby welcome Jens Rydén to the band as new vocalist. Jens is best known as founding member and ex-vocalist of Naglfar and recently also for his one-man army Profundi. We all feel very enthusiastic about bringing new blood into the band and it will be very interesting to write and compile the next Thyrfing album together.
For the time being we will go on with one guitar player, and time will tell what happens to the second guitar position?"

Deeds Of Flesh - Part Ways With Vocalist/Bassist

Deeds Of Flesh' vocalist/bassist and 1993 founding member Jacoby Kingston has announced his retirement from the band and will be replaced by Erlend Caspersen Blood Red Throne] from Norway.

Jacoby Kingston's official statement goes as follows:

"To begin, I want to express my gratitude to all of the Deeds Of Flesh fans and friends out there who have supported me throughout my 14 year tenure as Bassist/Vocalist for the band. It makes me sad to know that I won't see a lot of you whom I have come to know so well. As for myself, I can no longer live the life of a traveling musician; therefore, I am giving up my position in the band to someone who can put 100% into it and keep the music going strong. I will continue to support the band and help out in any way I can. I still love Death Metal and all things dark and that will not change. This was a hard dicision, but it is for the betterment of Deeds. It would not be fair to my band mates to not put full effort into the music.

Erland will do a kick ass job in my place. Many of you have seen him play with Vile on the European and U.S. tours in 2006. The guy is a freakin machine. He will play on the new album and will tour with the band. He is a great guy and I am glad someone like him will replace me."

Exodus - Former Drummer Rejoins

The following message was posted by guitarist Gary Holt on the Exodus website today (March 14):

"Breaking news in the Exodus camp!

I'd like to take a moment here and welcome back Tom Hunting to the drum throne of Exodus. It was always understood that when and if Tom was ever ready to resume his drumming duties for the band his seat would be waiting. Paul always knew this, and was the first to say it upon joining the band. Paul and Tom always have been good friends and we, as a band, cannot thank Paul enough for his services on "Shovel Head" and all subsequent tours. We had a great time, and kicked many asses along the way. Paul has given this reunion his whole endorsement with no mixed blessings, and is happy to see Tom back in the fold. Now someone may just become the luckiest suckers in the world, because one hell of a drummer is on the market! We wish Paul all the best, and he will always be a member of the extended Exodus family.

That having been said, we are so excited to have Tom back in the band he co-founded. He, other than the time spent out of the band, is the only drummer I've ever played with, and him and I have an unspoken language of metal that I am stoked to continue.

We are hard at work on the new songs, and this shit is the best and heaviest music we've ever written. I've kept quiet until now, because everyone always brags about how great the new shit is. But this is no boast. This album will redefine thrash metal as we no it. We will be hitting the studio mid- May with Mr. Sneap, and you have been warned."

Gorefest - Working On New Album

Dutch Death Metallers/Hard Rockers Gorefest have posted the following message on their website:

"We're well into our first week of recording the follow-up to La Muerte. In this week all drum tracks have been recorded. Our drummer Ed was on a roll and layed down all those brutal and demanding parts with breath taking ease. We shot some handy cam footage of the drum takes which you can find here. Ed, like a fish in the water behind his new Sonor kit, bashing away on those beautiful Amedia cymbals.

Monday, Tue Madsen was over to make drum sounds and on Tuesday we made guitar and bass sound. Next Monday we will start with recording the rhythm guitars and bass guitar. If all goes well this will take about a week and a half. After that it's time for extra bits and pieces and the solo's. In April JC will go over to the Antfarm Studio in Denmark, where the mixing will take place, to record vocals.

Visit our forum for more personal reports on the progress we make."
