Witchery - Ex-Dark Funeral Singer Joins The Band

Some of you might be surprised to see a new face at the Hultsfred Festival tonight when Witchery enter the stage to declare Witchkrieg over Sweden.

Explains guitarist Patrik Jensen (also in The Haunted): "We are saddened to announce the departure of Legion (ex-Marduk, ex-Devian), singer of last years Witchery ear crusher, Witchkrieg. Unfortunately, conflicting schedules made a continued collaboration impossible. We are very thankful for Legion's input and work on our latest album, and we wish him only the very best for the future. Witchery will however not remain without a leader to take them thru the netherworlds and beyond. None other than Emperor Magus Caligula (ex-Dark Funeral) has decided to once again adorn his armor, and go off to battle for the better of darkness and evil."

Emperor Magus Caligula adds: "Getting an offer to play with some of Sweden's finest elite in metal, I just couldn't resist. Together with Witchery, I will once again spread chaos and hatred upon this world. The emperor is back, and together we will conquer ALL!!!"

Also fans in Finland, Germany and Norway can soon witness the power of Emperor Magus Caligula throat torture at the upcoming Tuska Open Air, Summer Breeze Open Air and Inferno Festivals. Don't miss it because Witchery don't play for everybody everywhere.

Life Of Agony - Vocalist Undergoes Sex Change

Hot news in the "That's So Metal" department where Keith Caputo, the somewhat eccentric frontman of alternative metal band Life Of Agony from here on out wants to be addressed as Keith Mina Caputo frontwoman of Wife Of Agony... River sure runs red now.

*Several bad puns later*

Keith Caputo has revealed that he has begun "transitioning" into life as a woman and has begun to refer to himself as "her" on his official website. The singer, who has adopted the name "Keith Mina Caputo", wrote on his Twitter account, "Male to female transsexuals like me are the women who give up male privilege for femininity! Threaten the patriarchy!" He also responded to a question from a fan about the demise of Life Of Agony by writing, "Life Of Agony has already gone into isolation and it's got nothing to do with me transitioning ."

In a June 5, 2011 interview with "DeadDave's Internet Radio Show", Caputo stated: "I live a completely, totally different lifestyle. I'm a completely different human being, as you guys probably know. I have a very different path in life. I'm not living life as a man anymore and stuff. So, yeah, my life is completely different, but music will always be... music is definitely my driving force."

Caputo previously used cross-dressing images of himself in the artwork for his 2008 solo album A Fondness For Hometown Scars and dedicated the CD to androgynous people.

In a July 11 tweet, Caputo said, "my cuzins even get on me for being transgender, callin me the dumbest names, but it's all in good fun they'll really kill 4 me." The vocalist also re-tweeted a story from Metal Insider claiming the singer was due to get a sex change. He replied with the message, "Thx for being sweet & respectful.. Deeply appreciate it. FYI, I'm keeping my penis!"

During his appearance on "DeadDave's Internet Radio Show", Caputo spoke about Life Of Agony's future plans, stating, "We realize that Life Of Agony has become an extremely nostalgic act and the music that used to not be dated, in our eyes, is dated, and the whole situation is dated. It's a nostalgia, and we don't want to take advantage of that nostalgia anymore, nor do we wanna take advantage of the fans.

We've got three shows this year and it's probably gonna be the last shows that we do for a very long time. In fact, we just may call it quits. Because we feel like we set out to do what we needed to collectively. We're very honest people, we love each other dearly, but we just can't get it on; we can't turn each other on in the studio. We hit a brick wall together, and it ain't cool. So there's probably not gonna be a new album, nor a new single... So people better start getting used to Broken Valley, because that's probably the last piece of music that they'll hear from the band."

Testament - Reveal New Album Title, N. American Touring Plans

San Francisco Bay Area thrash metal veterans Testament have set The Dark Roots Of Earth as the title of their new album, tentatively due in October via Nuclear Blast Records.

The CD is currently being recorded with British producer Andy Sneap, who has previously worked with Megadeth, Exodus, Nevermore, among others.

Due to a "serious injury" being suffered by drummer Paul Bostaph, Testament have enlisted the services of Gene Hoglan (Fear Factory, ex-Strapping Young Lad) to handle the studio drumming for their new album. In addition to Hoglan, Lamb Of God drummer Chris Adler will appear on "a couple of bonus tracks."

Bostaph will rejoin Testament at a later date for touring duties. In the meantime, Sadus drummer Jon Allen sat behind the kit for Testament when the band performed in the place of In Flames at the first two shows of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival last weekend.

In other news, Testament vocalist Chuck Billy revealed more details regarding the band's upcoming North American trek, taking place later this year. Here's what he said to say on the upcoming tour in support of The Dark Roots Of Earth to California radio station 107.7 The Bone:

"We plan to tour. It's gonna be October/November. I think it's OK to say, it's gonna be Anthrax, Death Angel and Overkill. So that'll be in America. That'll be probably a five- or six-week tour in America. It would be good to have record out with that . But if , we'll have something out we'll be promoting with that tour."

Cerebral Bore - Members Mistakenly Arrested In Drug Store Killer Hunt

The following cool story was brought to you by the chaps in Scottish brutal death metal act Cerebral Bore.

Two members of Cerebral Bore were mistakenly arrested in New York City recently amidst the hunt for a man who murdered a number of people at a drug store.

The band had been out celebrating the end of their tour when guitarist Paul McGuire and bassist Kyle Rutherford went to a drug store in the early morning hours. Although the store's doors were open and the lights were on, it appeared that it was not officially open for business as an alarm went off, so the band members left and went to another store down the road. As they were leaving, a number of NYPD squad cars surrounded them and they were thrown to the ground by police officers and arrested at gunpoint. The two were charged with criminal trespass, petit larceny, burglary and criminal possession of stolen property.

The pair spent the next 36 hours being moved between crowded jail cells and witnessing violence and intimidation from the other inmates. The real drug store killer was later arrested and, following a court appearance, all charges were dropped and the members of Cerebral Bore were eventually released.

Watch a video of McGuire and Rutherfor discussing their harrowing experience below.

Wolves In The Throne Room - New Album Nears Completion

After devoting late Winter season to writing and recording, Wolves In The Throne Room are in the final stages of completing their fourth full-length opus of epic, earthen Black Metal ceremony.

For over six months the Weaver brothers, Aaron and Nathan, have been immersed in the painstaking writing and recording process of their newest album, and this week the process is nearly complete, at press time the album in its final mixing stages. The Wolves In The Throne Room clan have confirmed the title of this forthcoming astral black metal document as Celestial Lineage.

The transmutation reaches a new level with the completion of the album. In contrast to the bleakly hypnotic architecture of Black Cascade, the lifespan of Celestial Lineage breathes more expansive and visionary life into the duo's work. The Wolves In The Throne Room trademark long-form approach to arrangement remains intact, but there is a stronger thread of Popul Vuh-inspired underworld synthscapes and star-lit pulse woven with the intertwining guitar figures.

Celestial Lineage will end a trilogy of releases which began with Two Hunters (2007), and is segued by Black Cascade (2009), and like both previous albums, will be released via Southern Lord Recordings, with a street date of September 13, 2011 now confirmed. Three songs on the album feature Jessika Kenney's liturgical choir and solo voice, as heard on Two Hunters as well as 2009's Malevolent Grain EP, the album also including orations from Aaron Turner (Isis).

Stated WITTR drummer Aaron Weaver of the writing process for Celestial Lineage: "An ornate constellation of imagery is what that guides the songwriting process. Cedar temples crowned with burnished bronze domes glimpsed in a remote valley. Wild Midsummer bonfires and feasting on roasted flesh. All of the sounds serve to evoke the images that exist in our minds eye. With this record we're going to explore an entirely new palette of sound. We want the instruments to sound like the liturgical music of a cedar cult."

Besides closing out a trilogy within Wolves In The Throne Room's own annals, Celestial Lineage also marks the final release to ever be recorded in engineering wizard Randall Dunn's infamous Aleph Studio, the birthplace of a plethora of groundbreaking releases from Earth, Sunn O))), Boris, Cave Singers, Bjork/Omar Souleyman and countless more over the past decade, as well as where the immense tones and energy on WITTR's lauded Two Hunters and Black Cascade albums were captured. Check out several brand new in-studio photos from these special recording sessions here.

Moonspell - New Album Update

Moonspell vocalist Fernando Ribeiro has posted a lengthy update on the whereabouts of the band on Facebook. Here's the important bit you might be interested in:

"The new album proceeds and we will do a second pre-production with Benny Ricther in late July and Mike will record drums for these songs, most likely in Germany. The rest of the album will be tracked bys us and Tue Madsen during the month of August. Once the music is done, we will be able to give a better insight into this new concept and way of making things. Until then we count the days until we are able to match our big words with one of the most exciting collection of songs we ever worked in as composers."

Ribeiro previously revealed that the new Moonspell album's initials are A.N. and that it will tentatively surface in early 2012 through an as-yet-undetermined record label.

Slipknot - Free Webcast Of Sonisphere Show

Slipknot has announced a special real-time webcast of their Knebworth performance via their website to take place during their headline set at 9:00pm GMT (4:00pm Eastern/1:00pm Pacific) on Sunday, July 10th.

To tune in visit Slipknot1.com.

The webcasting of Slipknot's historic Sunday night headline set live across the world from Knebworth, will go out live on Slipknot1.com as well as Sonispherefestivals.com. Set to be an epic and emotional occasion, this highly anticipated show will mark the band's first appearance in the UK in over two years and their first British performance without founding member Paul Gray, who tragically passed away last year.

The band said of the upcoming performance: "England has always been a special place for this band from the very beginning. We can't think of a better way to culminate our celebration of Paul's life than to share it with the Maggots at Knebworth and the millions more watching around the world. This is not to be missed."

Says festival producer Stuart Galbraith: "This is the first time Sonisphere Festival has been transmitted live across the web and represents yet another major stride in its commitment to harnessing the power of the internet to engage with the rock audience at large across the planet. Given that this is going to be such an important event for Slipknot fans the world over, we felt it only right to allow them all to share in what is set to be a historic experience, wherever they are."

The Sonisphere show on July 10 will be the last on this current tour for Slipknot, which is performing for the first time without Gray. The band's future beyond this run of shows is unclear.

Gray passed away in May 2010 from an accidental overdose of drugs, leaving behind his wife Brenna and daughter October, who was born the following August.
