Maruta - New Album In February, Preview Tracks Online
Miami-based Grindcore act Maruta have finished work on their new album - the band's second for Willowtip Records - entitled Forward Into Regression. A release set has been set for February 22, 2011. Germany's Power It Up Records will be releasing a gatefold LP version. A release date for the vinyl is TBD.
Vocalist Mitchell Luna comments: "So we finished wrapping up full-length number two, and I can honestly say that we are all very proud of the outcome. We took the same open minded approach to grindcore as we have on our previous recordings, but incorporated a couple new surprises. The end result sounds more relentless, and I personally feel that it is a well rounded record that is equally emotional as it is abrasive. Stoked for it to drop!"
The album was recorded at Florida's Mana Recording Studios (Hate Eternal, Cannibal Corpse, Nile) by engineer Brian Elliot. This will be Maruta's first release with their new line-up. Drummer Daniel Morris and bassist Mauro Cordoba joined the band in early 2010.
Two preview tracks, called "Hand Of The Overseer" and "March Forward (Into Regression)" have been added to the Willowtip Music Player.

Godflesh - Frontman Talks About New Material
Blabbermouth is telling me that Godflesh mastermind Justin Broadrick has told Decibel Magazine that the band is slowly putting together ideas for a new studio album.
"It's something we're discussing all the time, and I do have bits and pieces of material," he said. "But it's something we'd really like to develop. It'd be quite easy to knock out eight to 10 in-character songs and release it as quickly as possible to capitalize on the popularity of the group, but it would feel entirely wrong. If it's another two years until another Godflesh record, so be it. The most important thing is making a record that stands up with the rest of the back catalogue. I do have this in me again, though."
Another extract of the interview with Justin Broadrick (where he talks about the band's reunion appearance at Hellfest) can be found here. The full interview can be read in the January issue of the magazine.

Control Denied - Update On Sophomore Release
Control Denied vocalist Tim Aymar has issued a very, very lengthy update on the completion of When Machine And Man Collide - the band's long-awaited sophomore release.
Before you start reading, here's a short recap I took from Blabbermouth: as you all know, Chuck Schuldiner began work on the album, but never managed to finish the effort before his health quickly deteriorated in the months leading up to his tragic death, in December 2001. The remaining members of the group subsequently announced their desire to complete the album and release it in Chuck's memory, but legal hassles between Schuldiner's family and Hammerheart Records (to whom Chuck was signed at the time of his death) put the entire project on hold. But now the family of late Death/Control Denied guitarist is moving ahead with plans to complete and eventually release the long-awaited second album.
Or as Tim Aymar explains in great detail:
"On December 13th we will once again take at least a few moments of our day to remember the "Father Of Death Metal", Chuck Schuldiner. Those who know Chuck's music from Death and Control Denied have faithfully and patiently awaited the announcement of the completion of Chuck's dying wish which is to get the final Control Denied record out to you , and along with my other band-mates, I am extremely happy to be here to fulfill the promise I made a decade ago.
When I first talked to Chuck about auditioning for a new band he was working on, an extension of his former band Death which he called Control Denied. We first talked over the telephone, and he was not at all like what I had expected him to be. My band-mate, co-writer and dear friend Jimmy Dofka from Psycho Scream had turned me on to Death a few months before, and the picture I had in my mind of Chuck, judging only by how precise and beautifully violent that music is, was of a brutal tyrant. I mean after-all, just listen to Gene Hoglan's drumming and the command of Chuck's blood soaked screaming, and you'll know what I mean. Well, I was delightfully wrong. The voice on the phone was just a guy like me, an easy going, slow talking hippie with a burning passion for metal. We both understood the seriousness of the business at hand, but neither of made it seem anything but exiting and fun, and that was awesome. That's just what professionals do.
We talked about our tastes in music and inspirations and our idols. We were definitely on the same page. He said he wanted me to audition because from what he'd heard already from Psycho Scream, my voice had all the qualities he had been looking for since he began his journey into metal. There's a bit of everyone we both liked in there, a bit of Dio, Halford, Tyler, Gillan, Bonnet, all the best screamers in the biz. With that in mind, we set a date and I flew down to meet him and do the audition. I thought maybe there was a chance he was blowing a bit of smoke up my ass, because that's just what some people do. But no, as it turns out, he was one of the few people in this biz that didn't.

Wallner/Vain - Guest Musicians Revealed
Official press release
Los Angeles based hard rock artists Will Wallner (guitars) & Vivien Vain (vocalis) announce their debut album featuring an all-star line up of guest musicians. The duo have written and recorded several songs and are in the process of recording the final tracks for their debut release.
The project began when Wallner/Vain had a chance meeting with Carmine Appice (Blue Murder, King Kobra) and Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath, Dio) at the Rainbow Bar & Grill on the Sunset Strip. Half of the songs feature Carmine and half feature Vinny. Bassist Tony Franklin (Blue Murder, The Firm) plays alongside Carmine which reunites the duo who played together in the critically acclaimed Blue Murder. Vinny performs with bassist Jimmy Bain (Rainbow, Dio) who had previously played together in the classic line-up of Dio. Rudy Sarzo (Ozzy Osbourne, Quiet Riot) also plays on several tracks with Vinny.
Guest musician Tony Carey (Rainbow, EBC) also plays on two tracks and reunites Carey with Jimmy Bain who last played together on Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow album Rising. Mixing the album is industry pro Gary Tole who in addition to working with Bon Jovi and Metallica has worked with David Lee Roth and Joe Lynn Turner.
Finally a song from Will Wallner's previous project with keyboardist Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Black Country Communion) will be included on the album. The song was produced by Derek and features Brian Tichy (Whitesnake, Pride & Glory) on drums with Tony Franklin.
The album will be released sometime in 2011. For more information and samples go to this location.

Cilice - New Vocalist Announced
Original news, posted on 29.11.2010
Cilice are excited to announce that the band has a complete line up again.
"After singer Daniël de Jongh had left the band to join Textures earlier this year we are now even more excited to announce that Bryan Ramage will be the new front man of Cilice.
The rehearsals and try-outs we had together sounded truly convincing. It feels great to play old songs in a refreshing way and to explore new directions working on new songs. With great confidence we are going to make another killer record!
Coming Thursday a video clip will be launched on YouTube to introduce Ramage to you guys. It will be a new version of the song "Left / Right Hemisphere" - let's call it a revox! The (audio) track will be available on our MySpace/Facebook from Tuesday on."
UPDATE
Cilice has uploaded the new "revox" version of the song "Left / Right Hemisphere" with new singer Bryan Ramage. The footage was shot during the Mini Mammoth UK Tour earlier this year. Check it out below.

Korpiklaani - New Album Details
Korpiklaani are set to release yet another new album, called Ukon Wacka, on February 4, 2011 through Nuclear Blast Records.
On Ukon Wacka, the band's seventh album, Korpiklaani took things even further: seven-string guitars, mandoline, mandola and jouhikko are just a few of the instruments that were used on Ukon Wacka.
The album title refers to "a pagan sacrificial feast from ancient times, on which a special made beer richly flowed. As can be expected from the title, this album has an ancient and very folky feel and is totally in Finnish", frontman Jonne explains. One title doesn't seem very Finnish though: the drinking anthem "Tequila" which is dedicated to all South American fans of the band.
Ukon Wacka also features a guest appearance by famous Finnish singer Tuomari Nurmio. All in all a joyous affair in the traditional and beloved Korpiklaani vein, Ukon Wacka boasts ten party tracks that make you wanna raise that drinking horn up high. Also make sure to grab a limited edition copy of Ukon Wacka to check out the brilliant Motörhead cover version bonus track "Iron Fist". Believe Jonne when he says: "A big folky feast for all!"
One of the new tracks, called "Tuoppi Oltta", can be heard at this location, while the band's 2009 effort Karkelo can still be streamed in its entirety at the official MySpace.

Between The Buried And Me - Frontman To Release Solo Album
Official press release
Tommy Rogers, lead vocalist, keyboardist and founding member of the award-winning North Carolina progressive rock band Between The Buried And Me, will release his debut solo album Pulse on February 1, 2011 via Metal Blade Records.
The versatile front man and multi-instrumentalist, who not only self-produced the record, but also arranged, composed and played all instruments on the recording, will use the pseudonym Thomas Giles (his given middle name) as his moniker for the project.
Recorded with Jamie King at The Basement Studios in Winston-Salem, NC, Thomas Giles' Pulse is a challenging rock record designed so that the parts build up to a larger, cinematic-like structure where everything from production to arrangements to lyrics to album art is carefully crafted towards a unified purpose. Testing the limits of what he can do naturally with his voice, Rogers' strikingly beautiful falsetto and dynamic range conjures tales of anxiety, collapse, end-times and strength against swelling, heart-lifting arrangements and pristine backdrops of ambient loops, digital burbles, analog hiss and woozy drones. Exploring combinations of the outré genres of both post-rock and glitch, the music's emotionally resonant yet textural sounds draw reference to artists such as Radiohead, Björk, the Verve, Beck, Stereolab and Spiritualized, balancing both rock and electronic impulses.
"Creating this album was a very unique experience for me," comments Rogers. "I honestly never thought I would get a lot of this music recorded. This record was a way for me to step back, focus on simplified song structures and really build off of melodies. Even though I love fucking my throat up by screaming, it was very nice to sit back and chill out a bit. I named the record Pulse because it is a collection of thoughts and experiences I've had through the years. It's a very personal record and I hope the songs help people evaluate their lives and make the best of their time here. Find your pulse."
The first single from the record is the introspective album opener "Sleep Shake". In keeping with the record's single-handed motif, Tommy Rogers filmed, edited and stars in the song's colorful in-studio music video, which is expected to make its premiere imminently.
"I hope everyone enjoys this record, as I feel there is something for everyone on it," said Rogers. "And don't you all worry; BTBAM is writing new material as I type. We have a very busy year 2011 planned which includes lots of new music and touring. Stay tuned."

Heaven And Hell - Should Carry On Under Different Name, Says Wendy Dio
Courtesy of Blabbermouth:
Wendy Dio, the wife/manager of late heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio, has told VH1 Radio that she encourages the surviving members of Heaven And Hell ? Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice ? to work together again under a different moniker.
"I don't know what they're doing right now," she said. "I know that Geezer's been asked several times, and he's just... he took it very hard. I don't really know what they're doing right now. They should do something else, with Vinny, too. I mean, the band was amazing, an amazing band and they should carry on to do something. It won't be called Heaven And Hell but whatever they call it, it will be great, it will be amazing."
On July 24, 2010, Iommi, Butler and Appice performed together at the High Voltage Festival at Victoria Park in London as a tribute to their fallen bandmate, Ronnie James Dio. Back then they were joined by legendary former Deep Purple/Black Sabbath singer Glenn Hughes and Masterplan vocalist Jorn Lande - who recently released his own tribute to Dio.

System Of A Down - Comeback Tour Planned For 2011?
Original news, published on 20.11.2010
So it's starting to look like System Of A Down are planning a string of reunion gigs in 2011... which is excellent news (and if you can't accept that go fuck yourself, ed.). Anyway, here's the copy from Blabbermouth:
According to the official blog of Francis Zégut, host of the show "Pop Rock Station" on the French radio station RTL2, System Of A Down will perform at the Palais Omnisports de Paris Bercy in Paris, France on June 6, 2011. This is expected to be one of many gigs the reunited band will play in Europe during next summer's festival season. An official announcement on the matter, with more details about the group's future plans, could come as early as next week.
More dates announced soon.
UPDATE
System Of A Down's much-rumored comeback/reunion tour is expected to be announced on Monday, November 29 - or so Blabbermouth tells me - along with details of several European festival appearances in 2011, likely including Download Festival.
In the words of bassist Shavo, "Stay tuned".
