Blackguard - Keyboardist Leaves The Band

Only hours after the band announced their new record deal with Victory Records, Blackguard is back in the news announcing the departure of keyboard player Jonathan Lefrancois-Leduc (also in Ex Deo). The band issued the following statement:

"For those of you who have seen us play recently with Leaves' Eyes and on the Nevermore tour, you have no doubt noticed the absence of our Keyboardist Jo. We're sad to say that Jo has officially left the band to pursue other endeavors.

There's no drama here, and we're all still good friends. Jo simply felt his time with the band had come to an end and we have amicably parted ways. Blackguard will remain a 5 piece for the foreseeable future."

The band had the following to say about the Victory Records deal: "At first (and second) glance this might seem like an odd pairing, but Victory is a very hard working label that we are all 100% behind. The Victory staff has welcomed us with open arms and are committed to pushing our next release to its full potential.

It's no secret that we've been touring extensively this past year and a half, and it's comforting to know we have a label backing us that are willing to work and put in as much effort as we have for the release of our 3rd record (2nd under the name Blackguard).

That being said we are hard at work completing our next record which has a tentative release date for April. The release will coincide with a North american tour that isn't announced yet, but when it does it's going to turn heads."

Rising - Two New Tracks Streaming Online

Denmark's sludge metal three-piece Rising has just posted two new tracks on their MySpace site. These are the first pieces of music from the band since 2009's critically acclaimed self titled debut EP, and the two tracks are from a forthcoming 7-inch vinyl to be released on Red Tape on November 29th. The two tracks "Legacy of Wolves" and "Daughter of The Sun" displays an even fiercer and aggressive side of the band than heard on their debut EP.

Rising's debut EP will finally be released as a vinyl, also on November 29th and hereby mark a simultaneous release of the 7" and the EP. The German based metal/punk-label Pain of Mind will be the label for the EP vinyl edition, which will be a 12" in a limited edition of 500 ex, of which 150 are white vinyl. Both vinyl releases will be available through Rising's MySpace, the labels and various mail orders and record dealers throughout the world.

Rising have since the release of their self titled debut EP had a high level of activity: A nomination at the Danish Metal Awards 2009 as "Best New Talent", two European tours and one Irish tour in 2010 as well as shows in Sweden and their native homeland of Denmark including a performance at this year's Roskilde Festival. Apart from releasing the forthcoming new 7" vinyl and the 12" EP vinyl edition, Rising is hard at work writing their debut album to be recorded in March/April next year and released on a yet undisclosed German label in September 2011.

Creation's End - Debut Album Details

In November, Creation's End will be releasing their debut effort, A New Beginning via Sensory Records.

Creation's End is the visionary collaboration between guitarist Rudy Albert (ex-Zandelle) and drummer Dario Rodriguez. The duo have been playing music together since 1999 in various capacities, and as they grew tighter in their playing, began to focus on writing original material. The nature of these songs evolved from simple metal tunes in the early years to more complex and mature compositions.

After a short period of time, Rudy and Dario decided that the time was right to record and release their ever-expanding music the right way. With a newly renovated studio and producer John Macaluso (James LaBrie, Fool's Game, ex-Ark, ex-TNT, ex-Yngwie Malsmteen) on board, Rudy and Dario set out to record eight reworked versions of songs that appeared on their early demos, which we now have in our hands as the debut album from Creation's End. They also recruited several other well established musicians to round out the line-up, including Mike DiMeo, (ex-Masterplan, ex-Riot), Marco Sfogli (James LaBrie), and Joe Black (Chris Caffery, ex-Zandelle).

This past summer the band decided to have world famous engineer Neil Kernon (Queensrÿche, Yes, Nile, Cannibal Corpse, etc) mix their debut masterpiece, which was dubbed A New Beginning. This flooring debut album is set to be unleashed on November 9, 2010 via New Jersey-based prog metal outfit Sensory Records, and culminates everything the creative duo envisioned since the very beginning; a melodic, progressive, groove-laden, dark and crushing display of incredible heavy metal.

You can listen to the opening track "Of Shadow And Flame" as well as a medley of the album here.

02. World Holocaust

Dakrya - New Album, Two New Songs Online

Greek avantgarde gothic metallers Dakrya will be releasing their new full-length album, Crime Scene, before the end of the year through Sensory Records. Here's the official press release:

When seven Greek charlatans get together, the musical visions that spring from their minds can only be described as a true freakshow.

Back in late 2004 the idea of a band that could develop a theatrical attitude and combine different musical elements with the dynamics of metal and rock sound, brought Dakrya to life. Following the usual demos and local live shows, the band released its debut album Monumento in the spring of 2008. Receiving great reviews and good support from both the media and the fans in and around Greece, Dakrya started touring on a broader scale, supporting international bands such as Moonspell and more.

In 2009 the band began to work on new material; the main goal was to put even more emphasis on the "theatrical" style of Dakrya, and in January 2010 the band entered the studio with engineer George Bokos (Rotting Christ), to record their sophomore album Crime Scene. Come March 2010 the band found themselves sitting in a studio in Sweden mixing the album together with Pelle Saether (Diablo Swing Orchestra, Draconian, Madder Mortem), followed by a trip to another Swedish sound-guru, Göran Finnberg (Opeth, In Flames, Arch Enemy) for the mastering of the disc.

From beginning to end, Crime Scene is a one-of-a-kind musical experience. Ranging from the psychotic and cinematic melodrama heard in bands like Diablo Swing Orchestra and Unexpect to the orchestrated gothic metal comparable to Therion and Theatre of Tragedy, Dakrya paints their mark all over the canvas.

Two brand new tracks, called "The Charlatans" and "The Urban Tribe", are now streaming on Dakrya's MySpace page.

Crime Scene cover art] tracklist:

01. The Charlatans
02. Blind Man's Bluff
03. Scaremongering
04. The Urban Tribe
05. Camouflage
06. Phantasmagoria
07. Inertia
08. Dramatis Personae
09. A Dreadful Side Scene

Mortiis - Download The New Album For Free Today

Mortiis returns to satiate fans' desire for new music today (October 10) with Perfectly Defect, a completely free, full-length, downloadable album. Get your fix of new Mortiis material here.

"Putting Perfectly Defect out as a free download was a decision we made after some consideration," said the band's namesake Mortiis. "The new model of the music business is important to keep in mind; there´s a new mentality out there in terms of how people acquire their music now. For better or worse, music seems to have become a medium a lot of people aren´t prepared to pay for in the old fashioned way. So, we paid to record it out of our own pockets 'cos we thought it would be a really cool gift to our fans that have been waiting around for ages for something new to come out."

Mortiis has spent much of the past couple years writing and recording The Great Deceiver, the long-awaited follow-up to 2004's full-length The Grudge and the 2007 remix album, Some Kind of Heroin. Perfectly Defect is the quintessential prelude to the world of The Great Deceiver - while the latter is heavier and darker, the former is varied, experimental, and largely instrumental. The bottom line is that Perfectly Defect leads into The Great Deceiver acting as a crucial stage in the evolution of Mortiis' music.

"When we were writing and working on The Great Deceiver, we were coming up with all sorts of inspired stuff, a really varied collection of music," Mortiis offered. "Some of it was far too varied and experimental to be included in such an angry, dark album as The Great Deceiver so we created a brand new album that is the introductory element to the more intricate world of The Great Deceiver."

"I think we really captured a cool vibe here," Mortiis enthused. "It's not easy marrying anger with melody, but I believe we did it. The songs on Perfectly Defect were created across a period of time, and I believe it shows in terms of what inspired these songs. They're rather soundtrack-y in a dark and sometimes bombastic way."

With the concept of digital distribution came a new empowerment for Mortiis - one where the artist controls his own artistic destiny.

"After our record deal finally expired, I had developed a profound aversion to the very idea of letting other people control my art, my lifework," he said. "So, again, the idea of the new technology really did grow on me. We dealt with some really evil stuff in the industry. Nothing shocking in terms of industry practice, but at a human level, it was a living nightmare. It reached a point where we fired everyone around us except for the handful of people we knew we could trust. It was a big move, but had to be done in order to survive. It was like rewinding the clock back to the start and beginning with a clean slate. We started working on a ton of new music right then. With the advent of modern technology, we realized we could do a lot of stuff without the often self-serving, meddling record labels. No record label would ever have let us put out an album for free, with the option to donate if the fans wanted to."

Calm Hatchery - Check Out Two New Tracks

Polish act Calm Hatchery have made two new songs from their upcoming album Sacrilege Of Humanity available for streaming now at the band's official MySpace page.

Calm Hatchery are a brutal death metal quintet from northern Poland, featuring past and present members of Dead Infection and Tehace. They've just finished putting the final touches on their second album, entitled Sacrilege Of Humanity. The band signed a worldwide deal with Selfmadegod, and the album shall hit the stores on November 16, 2010.

Sacrilege Of Humanity is technical, brutal death metal inspired by such genre leaders as Nile, Morbid Angel, Decapitated and Immolation. The album's flawless sound of second was captured at Hertz Studio, Bialystok where the album was recorded and supervised by the Wieslawski brothers (Behemoth, Vader, Hate). The cover artwork is being designed by Mentalporn (Deathstars, Behemoth) and will be released shortly. All pieces of this puzzle ensure us that this is going to be fantastic piece of extreme music, a must-have for all fans of aforementioned bands. More info coming soon.

Comments guitarist Huzar: "We put all passion and determination from our hearts into this music. Our band went through some hard time during last year, but the faith in what we're doing and the need to create music was the reason that our music grew mature. One thing can be said for sure: the music we offer these days is full of emotion. It's hard to be original these days and we do not pretend to be - we're not afraid to admit it and we'll accept all comparisons. I'd like to encourage you to listen to our new songs." The two new songs are called "Messerschmitt" and "Lost In The Sands", go check them out here.

Calm Hatchery debuted four years ago with their El Alamein album. Recently the band achieved some major success by winning the 20th August Rock Generacja Festival and having the opportunity to present itself next day in Koszalin Amphitheatre together with Vader and Napalm Death.

Catamenia - Four Members Leave The Band

Catamenia main-man Riku Hopeakoski has announced the following huge line-up changes:

"I'm sad to inform you all about huge and unfortunate line-up changes in the band. Ari Nissilä (vocals/guitar), Toni Kansanoja (bass), Kari Vähäkuopus (clean vocals) and Mikko Nevanlahti (drums) decided to part ways with Catamenia because of their project bands, businesses, lack of inspiration and time, personal issues and etc.

I had a great time with you and hope nothing but the best for you. We'll always be true friends, no question about it! You've been my family for years and you will always be part of it, now and in future! There are no words to describe, but only: Thousands of sincere thanks from the bottom of my heart, guys - it was a damn awesome journey with great unforgettable memories! THANK YOU!!!

But now some happier news. The first new attachment for the band is our ex-bassist Mikko Hepo-Oja. He was our bassist during Winternight Tragedies-era. Also two new members join the band - drummer Tony Qvick (ex-Agonizer) and guitarist Sauli Jauhiainen (Ultimatium). Also the new vocalist will be informed quite soon. So, all in all: We're back in business!"

Lordi - Drummer Fired For Unmasking Himself

Finnish heavy metal monsters Lordi have released the following statement:

"It is our unfortunate task to inform that drummer Kita is no longer a member of Lordi. Kita has made a decision to pursue his own career publicly as himself, without his alter ego Kita. This is in direct conflict with one of the cornerstones of Lordi's image. Therefore it is not possible for him to continue as a member of the band anymore.

Lordi will continue as always, masked and costumed, consisting of monster personas. Also, the upcoming tour will happen as planned. We thank Kita for the years he has been an important part of the band and our successes and wish him all the best in his future."

This hard decision came after the announcement earlier today that Finnish melodic rock band Stala & So. - which features in its ranks Kita (real name: Sampsa Astala) on vocals and ex-Lordi bassist Kalma (real name: Niko Hurme; also known by his current stage name Nick Gore) - will be competing to represent Finland in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest.

Kita as the frontman of Stala & So.

Pantera - Cowboys From Hell Deluxe Re-Issue

Just yesterday Rhino Records re-issued the deluxe edition of the Pantera classic Cowboys From Hell. Album samples and all information how to get you a copy can be found here. Below is the official press release with further details and a very special video message from bassist Rex Brown, giving a shout out to MetalStorm.net (that's us!)

An AOL listening party is going on here. And you can download the previously unreleased track "The Will to Survive" (if you haven't already) by liking Pantera on Facebook.

Rhino Records press release

Pantera found its growl and groove on Cowboys From Hell, a landmark album whose bone-powdering intensity, razor-sharp riffing and pummeling rhythmic assault represented a turning point in modern metal when it was released in 1990. More than just Pantera's major label debut, many consider this album to be the official debut of the Pantera lineup with singer Philip Anselmo, guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, his brother, drummer Vinnie Paul and bassist Rex Brown.

To celebrate the 20-year anniversary of Cowboys From Hell, Rhino rounds up a three-disc Ultimate Edition, a three-disc Deluxe Edition, and a two-disc Expanded Edition. All three editions include a newly remastered version of the original album along with unreleased and rare live performances from the "Cowboys From Hell" Tour.

The Ultimate and Deluxe Editions will also feature a disc of unreleased demos for nearly every album track, plus, "The Will To Survive," a previously unreleased song recorded during the album's sessions.

Says Vinnie Paul: "The Will To Survive" is a great track. With so many killer songs, it was hard to pick and choose the ones that should make our major label debut. After hearing it for the first time in about 20 years, its a pretty stellar performance and I am definitely proud that it will see the light of day for all the die hard Pantera fans around the world! It shows the true musical diversity of the band at that time!"

The Deluxe and Expanded Editions of Cowboys From Hell will be released September 14 at all retail outlets, including pantera.com and rhino.com. The Deluxe Edition will be available for a suggested list price of $29.98 (physical) and $17.99 (digital) and the Expanded Edition for $19.98 (physical) and $12.99 (digital).

The Ultimate Edition will feature all three discs included in the Deluxe Edition and will be housed in an intricate box including several replica memorabilia pieces from the Cowboys era. The Ultimate Edition will be available on November 23 and final pre-order details, as well as the contents, will be unveiled soon on Pantera's Facebook page.
