Canadian symphonic progressive metallers Gates Of Winter are busy working on their new album, Perihelion. Band vocalist and guitarist, Lee Maines, checked in with the following update: "A slew of technical difficulties has prevented work from getting done on the album, however the majority of these issues have now been overcome... We will still be aiming for a December release but may have to revise that in the coming months."

Swedish black metallers Shining are set to release an EP of cover songs with a choice of material that will come as a surprise to many of the band's fans. The four-track EP, titled Lots Of Girls Gonna Get Hurt, includes tracks from Katatonia, Kent, Imperiet and Poets Of The Fall, and is due for release via Spinefarm Records on May 16th. Whilst Katatonia is an internationally recognised name, Kent and Thåström's Imperiet are relatively unknown outside of Sweden, where they are two of the country's biggest names, and Poets Of The Fall is a Finnish band with a substantial following in their own country. Cover art is by Pauline Greefhorst.

British metallers Architects have parted ways with their guitarist Tim Hillier-Brook. The band posted the following statement about it: "Tim has decided that it's time for him to step away from Architects and pursue other projects. We all appreciate the work and commitment he has shown to the band over the past few years and wish him all the best in his future endeavours. His final show will be Groezrock and no future shows will be affected by his departure. Our good friend Josh Middleton will be filling Tim's vacancy on a temporary basis."
