Banda Do Sol - Recording New Album

Brazilian progressive rock band Banda Do Sol is still recording it's new album titled "Tempo". The album will be mixed in California/USA and will bring the tracks "Som do Sol", "Tempo", "Prana", "Mahavishnu", "Sinal da Liberdade", "Yes Blues", "Voar", "Quem Eu Sou?", "Maya" and "Fabito".

Since it's first LP released in 1982, Banda Do Sol explores influences of oriental music, especially the Indian. After 25 years since the release of the debut, the group got involved even more with all the culture and musicality from India. Mainly the vocalist and guitar player Moa Jr. that for 33 years is a student of "Self Realization Fellowship", a organization founded in 1920 by Sri Paramahansa Yogananda, a Indian guru specialized in kryia yoga techniques and that influenced some musicians and bands such as Beatles, Elvis Presley, Yes, Supertramp and even contemporary names as Cynic.
"All my life changed after reading "Autobiography Of A Yogi" by Paramahansa Yogananda", says Moa, Banda Do Sol's main composer. "By reading the book I started to search for more information about the saints in India. Afterwards I figure out that in India they consider music, paintings and drama as divine arts. The gods Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, the eternal trinity, were the first musicians that gave birth to the endless rhythm variations on the process of universal creation, preservation and destruction. With this picture in mind, I wrote all my songs"

With "Tempo", Banda Do Sol's new album, the influences from India are even more apparent. Moa Jr. says that some tracks are directly connected to the Vedic Indian Philosophy. ""Prana" and "Mahavishnu" are totally inspired by hindu philosophy. While the first describes the vital energy that surrounds all the creatures, "Mahavishnu" speaks of Krishna, an encarnation of the lord Visnhu. With his flute, the god Krishna plays the ravishing song that calls back to the true home the wandering soul living in the world of illusion. "Sinal da Liberdade" was made in tribute to a hindu poet called Rabindranath Tagore. The song "Quem eu sou?" it's an introspection to our true nature, the great mystery of mankind. "Maya" speaks of the magical power of illusion that is present in the world of phenomena, the principle of relativity, contrast, duality and contrary states."

Moa Jr., that have played with some very famous Brazilian musicians such as Guilherme Arantes, Walter Franco and Sá e Guarabyra, also works with a side-project totally focused on Indian music. Monthly in Sao Paulo, the musician leads a "kirtan", a kind of presentaion and celebration of Indian music and mantras played with Indian instruments such as harmonium, sitar and tabla.

"Tempo", Banda Do Sol's new album, will be released in July. Besides Moa Jr. on vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, the band is formed by Fabio Fernandes on drums, Cesar Rodrigues on bass, Fram Simi on guitars and the famous Brazilian keyboardist Allex Bessa.

Cryogen - New EP Available For (Free) Download

Denver's Cryogen are releasing their new EP, "Psalms Of Deceit", for free. The digital version was released since yesterday (February 17) as a "pay what you want" download, meaning it can be downloaded for free.

Cryogen comments: "We are offering our fans the opportunity to pay what they want for our new EP. That includes paying nothing. We're leaving it up to our fans to decide what the album is worth. We're leaving that decision up to each individual, and we're happy to be the first extreme metal band to do that. We feel that this is the future of music distribution and that there is no better time to do this than right now. While record labels sit in fear of losing sales to piracy, we believe it's up to independent bands, like Cryogen, to help pave a new way of distributing music."

"Psalms Of Deceit" cover artwork and tracklisting:

01. Faith And Suicide
02. Man Is War
03. This Nightmare
04. Omega
05. Forever Broken
06. Break These Chains

The album can be streamed or downloaded (free newsletter registration required if you download the album for free) at this location.
