Agent Steel - Working On New Songs

At the beginning of the month it was announced that original Agent Steel vocalist John Cyriis had returned to the band. Now the following update has been issued:

"Just checking in to let everyone know that we will begin rehearsals with vocalist J. Cyriis in the coming weeks here in Los Angeles. We're all very excited to fire up the engines and getting the gears turning to the Agent Steel machine! We will be revisiting the classic catalog of course, but most importantly; we look forward to begin work on new songs for future release.

As some of you know we have material already written in demo format that we look forward to reworking with J. Cyriis. We also have our first working title that Cyriis has been writing lyrics to that we can reveal at this time; "Behold... The Great Race". We're also in the middle of confirming South American live appearances for late August, and also European "exclusive shows" for late October, 2010."

Stay tuned for more details as they surface.

Isis - Call It Quits

It's official, May is definitely "metal massacre month" as the bad news continues to pile up. Just this morning atmospheric sludge/post-metallers Isis have called it a day. In a lengthy "good night!" message on their MySpace, the band writes:

"Isis has reached an end. It's hard to try to say it in any delicate way, and it is a truth that is best spoken plainly. This end isn't something that occurred over night and it hasn't been brought about by a single cataclysmic fracture in the band. Simply put, Isis has done everything we wanted to do, said everything we wanted to say. In the interest of preserving the love we have of this band, for each other, for the music made and for all the people who have continually supported us, it is time to bring it to a close.

We've seen too many bands push past the point of a dignified death and we all promised one another early on in the life of the band that we would do our best to ensure Isis would never fall victim to that syndrome. We've had a much longer run than we ever expected we would and accomplished a great deal more than we ever imagined possible. We never set any specific goals when the band was founded other than to make the music we wanted to hear and to play (and to stay true to that ideal), so everything else that has come along the long and winding path has been an absolute gift.

As with any momentous life-changing decision (which this certainly is for the 5 of us), we feel a very dynamic range of emotions about this and cannot express all of it within the space of a few sentences, and perhaps it's best to do what we've always done in and let our music speak for us. It is and has been the truest expression of who we are as a collective and in some ways who we are as individuals for the 13 years in which we've been together.

The last and perhaps most important thing we might say in relation to all this is how grateful we are for the people that have supported us over the years. It is a lengthy list that would include those who put out our records, those that played on them and put them to tape, the many bands with whom we shared the stage, all of our family, friends and companions who supported us in our individual lives and thus made it possible for us to continue on in the band, and most importantly those who truly listened to our music whether in recorded form or by coming to out to our shows (or both). It is quite true that we would never have done what we have without those people, that is many of you who are reading this. Our words can never fully express what we feel, but we hope that our music and the efforts made to bring it into being can serve as a more proper expression of gratitude for this life and for everyone in it. Thank you.

Guitar phenom Gus G (Ozzy Osbourne, Firewind) has added his signature style and soloing to one of Kamelot's new songs that will appear on the band's upcoming CD.

Kamelot guitarist Youngblood comments: "Gus and I have been talking about working together for a few years now, I first met Gus when Dream Evil played with us on the Japanese Tour in a few years back. Since then Gus' band Firewind has toured with us in Europe and Japan and we have become great friends. I have always thought Gus' style was very special and very unique, its really great to have him on the new album!"

Gus G. adds: "Kamelot is a very unique band with a sound of their own and I've always liked them. To be invited to play on their new album is an honor and jamming on their track was a lot of fun. During the time our bands toured Japan and all over Europe together, Thomas and I became good friends. I have great memories from being on the road with the guys and I'm glad I contributed to their new album."

Death - Chuck Schuldiner's Back Catalog To Be Reissued

Relapse Records is honored to announce a partnership with Perseverance Holdings Ltd. and the Schuldiner family to reissue the legendary catalog of heavy metal luminary Chuck Schuldiner and his bands Death, Control Denied, and Mantas.

Chuck Schuldiner's Death, one of the most important and influential metal bands of all-time, will see the first official digital releases of it's legendary albums Scream Bloody Gore, Leprosy, Spiritual Healing, Human, Individual Thought Patterns, and The Sound Of Perseverance from May 11th via iTunes. These digital releases will come two days before Chuck Schuldiner would have celebrated his 43rd birthday. Schuldiner passed away on December 13, 2001 after fighting a long, recurring battle with brain cancer.

Relapse will also reissue an expanded version of the classic debut album, The Fragile Art Of Existence, from Schuldiner's progressive heavy metal band Control Denied in late 2010 as well as the first-ever collection by his pre-Death project Mantas. The expanded version of The Fragile Art of Existence will include bonus tracks, extra band photography, expanded art and packaging and more. Details on both releases are forthcoming.

Long-range plans include the completion and official release of the final Control Denied album When Man and Machine Collide. Recorded over 10 years ago at Morrisound Studios with producer Jim Morris, When Man and Machine Collide was tracked by Schuldiner but left incomplete upon Chuck's passing.

Arsis - Part Ways With Bassist, Former Bassist Returns

Bassist Noah Martin (ex-Dark Empire), who announced his departure from Virginia's melodic/technical death metal band Arsis in September 2008, proudly announces his return to the band's line-up. The band were currently on the "Facemelter Tour" with Dying Fetus, Misery Index, Annotations Of An Autopsy and Conducting From The Grave when bassist Nathaniel Carter abruptly left.

The band has released the following official statement: "So it's true that we have been playing as a three piece for a few gigs. Nat is out and if you want the real story come to a show and ask us, because trust me, that is much more fun and potentially colorful than reading it in an officially sanctioned and sanitized press statement. But this is a problem of very small gravity because WE ARE INEVITABLE and by the time the clock strikes midnight tonight we will be rejoined by our very dear friend and long-missed colleague ... (insert drum roll here) ... the immortal Noah Martin is back in our traveling circle of insanity! We will be turning the hell up to 11 in New Mexico tonight!"

Martin added: "Since leaving Arsis, I've been back in Virginia, finishing up my bachelor's degree. I'm still enrolled in college, so I'm kinda in the same boat as Mike [Van Dyne, drummer] as far as playing live goes. It's tough to stay away from what you love and know so well. For me, making music with James Malone means listening to obscure '80s metal, staying in seedy hotels, peeing in wrecked trailers, playing with Dutchstep, and singing like King Diamond. It feels good to be back in the fold, to make music with my friends. Good times."

Dates for the ongoing Facemelter Tour can be found at this location.

Skid Row - Part Ways With Drummer, Announce Replacement

In April of 2010 Skid Row and drummer Dave Gara parted ways. "We wish Dave all the best for the future and we are very excited to begin working with Rob", said lead singer Johnny Solinger.

Skid Row have recruited Atlanta native Rob Hammersmith as their new drummer. Guitarist Snake Sabo added: "Let's put it this way, we gave Rob a lot of songs to learn and not much time to learn them, but he came through like a champ". Rob spent many years touring and recording with Atlanta based rockers Rockets to Ruin and toured with Gunfire 76 featuring Wednesday 13.

When asked about his new gig Hammersmith answered: "Having always been a fan, it is an honor to be asked to join the band. The band's music and history holds a special place in both my life, and the lives of so many loyal fans. To be a part of that history is the chance of a lifetime."

Korn - New Album Details Revealed

Original news, posted on 28.04.2010

Korn's 9th studio effort, Korn III - Remember Who You Are marks a return to form for the nu metal powerhouse. The album will be released at the end of June through Roadrunner Records.

The band has enlisted famed producer Ross Robinson, the man who helmed the boards on their first two albums. Guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer explains the dynamic: "Teaming up with Ross has brought that raw, emotional feeling back to the music. Ross is the only person in the world that's ever been able to draw us to that place. He reminds us why we're here, why these songs are important to our fans and why what we do as a band relates. He made us remember how our music saves lives, and he came into the picture at the perfect time. We had no record label and just wanted to make a great album. Ross stepped in at the right moment to hit the reset button."

Korn III - Remember Who You Are [cover art] tracklist:

01. Oildale (Leave Me Alone)
02. Pop A Pill
03. Fear Is A Place To Leave
04. Move On
05. Lead The Parade
06. Let The Guilt Go
07. The Past
08. Never Around
09. Are You Ready To Live?
10. Holding All These Lies

UPDATE (thanks to Yura.)
