Nightwish - Vocalist Leaves Stage In Belo Horizonte (UPDATED)

Original news, posted on 12.11.2008

Nightwish were forced to cut Monday night's (November 10) concert in Belo Horizone, Brazil short after the group's lead singer Anette Olzon suddenly started "crying" at the end of the song "The Poet And The Pendulum" (about six tracks into the group's set) and walked off stage, leaving the rest of the band to finish the song with bassist/vocalist Marco Hietala attempting to handle some of the lead-vocal parts. The group reportedly played two more cover songs and ended the show, explaining that Anette is going through a difficult phase in her life, and that she was really sad.

Fan-filmed video footage of Olzon walking off can be viewed here and here.

But, in the meantime, Anette Olzon sent a press release to Brazilian media where she clearified the reasons behind her sudden "collapse" which caused her to leave the stage in the middle of the Nightwish show in Belo Horizonte, Brazil on November 10th 2008.

Olzon stated that the smoke on stage got on her vocal chords to make her lose her voice. She was trying to sing until she reached the point she couldn't do it anymore and therefore was "forced" to leave the stage.

Nightwish has always had a very good and close relation to their fans in Brazil and the thought of disappointing the fans was too great for Anette. The band tried to buy some time for Anette to regain her voice back but it didn't. Nightwish ended up playing 2 more songs after Anette left the stage but were forced to stop the show after that.

After the show, people stayed in the venue to get some kind of explanation to what happened. After a while, promoter Eric de Haas from Dynamo Productions came on stage to tell the fans that the concert was over and Nightwish was already back on their hotel.

It is reported that the next show Nightwish did the next day in the capital of Brazil (Brasilia) went well and the band also included the song "The Poet And The Pendulum" on their setlist.

UPDATED

As posted on Blabbermouth, Nightwish mainman/keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen said the following, speaking to webzine O Povo Online about the incident: " freaked out because she couldn't handle the different mannerisms of the fans here. There were a lot of people screaming the former vocalist's name, making obscene gestures (with the middle finger). Normally she can shake that stuff off, she has good self-esteem, but it's been hard to deal with the fans and the critics. I guess it was a sudden breakdown; she just... lost her mind for a second. It's kind of scary, and we all feel for her and understand what she is going through. We hope she can put her mind at ease and make the rest of the shows. So far it's been fine; she's feeling much better."

Pelican - New Video Up

Instrumental metal band Pelican have premiered their new video on MTV Headbanger's Blog today (November 15). The band said in a bulletin posted on their MySpace:

"The "Lost In The Headlights" video is now up for your viewing pleasure on the MTV Headbangers Blog. The on-air premiere is Saturday 11/15 on MTV2's Headbangers Ball. It will air between 2am-3am EST and 11pm-12am PST. If you do the DirectTV thing, it airs live from the East Coast feed. We are fairly certain it is the first video to air that night, so tune in early!"

The video can be seen at this location or on YouTube here.

"Lost In The Headlights", which was directed by Kenneth Thomas will be the second and final video from the "City Of Echoes" album, released last year. Pelican guitarist Laurent Schroeder-Lebec commented the following about the video shoot:

"Ken had done a fantastic job with footage on our "After the Ceiling Cracked" DVD. Incidentally, he also looks like Clark Kent, so you want to just trust the guy. Although the narrative flow from our "Dead Between The Walls" video continues loosely on this new one, Ken's vision here was more focused on adapting texture and environment to the song's flow.

Ken and Larry worked hard to find fitting locations, and eventually we settled on a rooftop in desolate downtown Los Angeles, as well as Switzer Falls in Angeles National Forest. We're immensely pleased with the results, and we'd like to thank all those who worked hard to adapt visuals to the journey. Thanks to Ken, Stephen Broasch (who took amazing still photos that were incorporated toward the end of the song), Juan Perez and his lovely hound, J Bennett, Sera, and the extended volunteer crew."

Devian - New Album Dates Announced, Song Online

Original news, posted on 31.10.2008

After their much-lauded debut album "Ninewinged Serpent" in 2007 and a comprehensive European tour with Polish death metal overlords Vader, Sweden's blackened death/thrash commando Devian, who feature former Marduk members Legion (vocals) and Emil Dragutinovic (drums) in their ranks, mercilessly return with a second attack: The furious new album "God To The Illfated" will be released in Europe on the following dates:

Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux: December 12, 2008
Denmark, Norway: December 15, 2008
Spain, Portugal: December 16, 2008
Sweden, Finland: December 17, 2008
France: January 05, 2009
Italy: January 16, 2009
UK, Greece, Rest Of Europe: January 19, 2009

Recorded once again at Art Decay Studio with Rickard Kottelin, Devian this time around decided to hook up with Hypocrisy/Pain mastermind Peter Tägtgren for further production duties and the intense mixdown of the album at the Abyss studio (Immortal, Marduk, Dimmu Borgir), while mastering was once again taken care of by Peter In De Betou of Tailor Maid Production (Dimmu Borgir, Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquillity).

Commented Legion: "'God To The Illfated' is the result of Devian fusing together as its own powerhouse. Having the luxury of making music together with one's best friends made the new songs step up to a whole different league throughout the writing sessions: we all bled everything into the album, everything that we knew was Devian and explored as much new ground as we could. The extensive touring we did last spring showed us what really works for us... jacked up and confident from slaughter on the road we let all the fire from the live shows translate onto the songs and the recording-sessions 'til we all felt that unbeatable feeling of grand accomplishment. The feeling that we had a really special beast of an album on our hands."

UPDATE (thanks to SlaytallicA)

A first brand-new Devian track, called "Assailant", is available for streaming on the band's official MySpace.
