Cain's Offering - New Project Featuring Sonata Arctica, Wintersun, Stratovarius Members

Original news, posted on 13.04.2009

Guitarist Jani Liimatainen has revealed more info regarding his new project on his MySpace:

"I promised you I'd give you some info about what I've been working on lately (for a year now actually...). The info about the new lineup was released on this months Burrn!-magazine, so I think it's time to make it official here as well. My new band is called Cain's Offering, the official website will be up and running hopefully already next week and you can find the Myspace-site here."

"Cain's Offering are currently working on our debut album, "Gather The Faithful", which will hopefully come out by the end of the summer. The drums were recorded at Drumforest Studios last November/December, the bass at Astia Studios during February, the basic guitar tracks were laid down in the beginning of March at Studio 57, and last couple of weeks we've been camping out in the woods with Timo recording the lead vocals. We still have 2 more songs to record, but all in all things are going smoothly.

Unfortunately we cannot provide any songs or samples yet, but when we get there some will be uploaded here for your listening pleasure. In the meanwhile, those of you who like to listen a big man bang on his drums can check out this clip. It's our beloved Hurtsi rehearsing before we went to the studio to lay down the drum tracks. I think he begins with "Disciple" by Slayer, before launcing into "13th Disciple" (yes, he has some sense of humour), song that be included on "Gather The Faithful". A few other songtitles include "Stolen Waters", "More Than Friends" and "Morpheus In a Masquerade". That's about all the info I can give you at the moment, but be patient."

Cain's Offering are:

Vocals: Timo Kotipelto (Stratovarius)
Guitar: Jani Liimatainen (ex-Sonata Arctica, ex-Altaria)
Keyboards: Mikko Harkin (ex-Sonata Arctica)
Bass: Jukka Koskinen (Wintersun, Norther)
Drums: Jani "Hurtsi" Hurula

UPDATE (thanks to 22261)

Cain's Offering have posted four new tracks off their forthcoming album "Gather The Faithful". Check them out here.

In the meantime, Cain's Offering signed with Frontiers Records for the release of "Gather the Faithful" in all territories outside of Asia and Japan. The release dates are August 27th in Europe and September 11th in the USA. The "Frontiers-version" will feature a red cover artwork, while the "Marquee/Avalon-version" will sport a blue one.

He was 45 years old. Mike was a founding member of Shadow Gallery and for the past 16 years, helped shape the sound of the band with his magical voice. Additionally, he made many appearances on rock records around the world. Those who knew him best were moved by his gentle spirit, sincere kindness , fun nature and passion for both music and sports. He was a warrior in the studio, a true professional. Mike was our friend, our singer and our brother. We loved him and will miss him enormously, but he will always be remembered in our hearts and through his music."

Sonata Arctica - Adria Rock Fest Appearance Denied

Sonata Arctica have issued the following statement:

"Despite rumours and announcements to the contrary, Sonata Arctica are NOT going to play at Adria Rock Festival in Ni?/Serbia on May 29th 2008.

Note: All officially announced gigs can be found at http://www.sonataarctica.info as soon as they are confirmed. If the band is announced to play anywhere and you cannot find the information on the official website, don't believe it."

The festival flyer looks as follows, Link]. But also second headliner Hanoi Rocks are NOT confirmed to play the festival, as the Adria Rock Fest is not mentioned on the band's tour agenda on their official website.

According to some Serbian inside sources, it's possible that this whole festival is a scam, or at least they're trying to misguide people by putting well-known bands on the bill. DISCLAIMER: this last paragraph does not necessarily represent the point of view of the Metal Storm Staff]

Evergrey - Sign With Steamhammer/SPV

As posted on Evergrey's official website:

"Following intense and very constructive discussions, Steamhammer/SPV have announced their future collaboration with Swedish dark melodic metal act, Evergrey. The deal includes not only the group's brand-new studio album, "Torn", which will arrive at the stores at the beginning of September, but also Evergrey's complete back catalogue. Evergrey mastermind Tom S. Englund is looking forward to a productive cooperation with Steamhammer, explaining: "After long and intense negotiations, we feel that we have arrived at optimum conditions for everybody involved. We are confident that Evergrey will continue to grow artistically under the terms of this contract, that SPV will enjoy our cooperation and - this is definitely the most important aspect - that our fans will thoroughly benefit from the new deal."

The first stage of this ambitious target will see the release of Evergrey's new studio album, "Torn", at the beginning of September, featuring eleven compositions, described by Englund as a "modern mix of "In Search Of Truth" and "Recreation Day". "The tracks are all guitar-oriented and very atmospheric. They have exactly the sound that our fans expect from us." According to Englund, the slightly more experimental direction of Evergrey's previous release, "Monday Morning Apocalypse", has given way again to old strengths and virtues. "Two years ago we needed an album with a slightly different approach and an expensive producer, just to find out how that sort of thing works. It was the right album at the time, but now we have returned to our typical trademarks." This is one of the reasons why the tracks on "Torn" were self-produced by Englund together with drummer Jonas Ekdahl. In addition, the band has a new bassist, Fredrik Larsson having been replaced by former Stratovarius musician Jari Kainulainen.

Since the band arrived on the scene in 1998, Evergrey have brought out six studio albums and one live cut. All of them made the top 20 in their native Sweden and the last two made the top 10 (no. 6 and 3, respectively). On top of that, their DVD was number 1 for four weeks and nominated for a Grammy in Sweden. The band has toured around the globe several times, together with In Flames, Nevermore, Throwdown, Arch Enemy, Children Of Bodom and Iced Earth, among others. Along with "Torn", their new contract with Steamhammer/SPV includes the band's complete back catalogue, so top-quality reissues featuring a selection of bonus tracks are likely in future. "There is so much additional material for each album that we could theoretically re-release it on an extra DVD. Whatever we manage to do - premium reissues are certainly a possibility."

Sirenia - Announce New Singer

After a few months of search and the cancellation as support of the Therion tour, Morten Veland's Sirenia have finally announced a new vocalist. This is the band's statemant regarding the new frontwoman:

"Sirenia is finally ready to introduce their new female singer. Ailyn - Born 1982 in Barcelona, now settled in Granada, Spain. Ailyn has been strongly attached to music all her life, and began singing at an early age. Later on she studied singing at The School of Music Albéniz, and obtained singing lessons with several singing teachers around Spain. In the past she's been singing and performing all kinds of styles and genres, but in 2004 she discovered the sounds of metal combined with atmospheric and classical elements, this style of music made a big impression and she knew right away in which direction she wanted to take her career. Sirenia has done pre-productions of several new songs and recognizes that Ailyn's voice match perfectly with the new songmaterial. The band is very pleased to have Ailyn onboard and we all look forward to a future collaboration."

A picture of the new vocalist can be viewed here.

Hammerfall - Guitarist Leaves The Band

After 11 years, Stefan Elmgren decided to leave HammerFall. Stefan's message for fans upon leaving the band:

"I have decided to leave Hammerfall, the reason is that I have been offered a job as a pilot within an airline. My interest in aviation has been growing very strong, and now I feel its time for me to take a step and be a pilot on a professional level. We have been discussing the possibility of combining the work with HF and both me and the rest of the band realized that it would be very hard indeed.

It has been a great journey with lots of great memories that I will carry with me for the rest of my life, I would like to give a big thanks to all the wonderful fans, its has truly been a pleasure to meet and perform for you all during these 11 years.

I still love to play the guitar so you might hear from me again someday somehow. I would like to wish who ever is taking my place and the rest of the band good luck in the future.

Take care everybody!! Stefan Elmgren"

No replacement has been announced yet.

Two video reports by the leaving guitarist talking about his new job and departure are posted at this location.

To-Mera - Replace Bassist

Lee Barrett has stepped down as bass player for To-Mera. It was a decision made at the beginning of the year and a replacement is already in place.
Mark Harrington, also in Demagogue MySpace], is now the new bass player, so please wish him a warm welcome into the fold!

"I've had a great time playing with the band, but unfortunately my "real life" work dictated that I was unable to fulfil any possible future touring or musical commitments. It was only fair to the rest of the band that I left now rather than encounter any potential scheduling conflicts at a later date. I shall hopefully still be involved behind the scenes and taking care of the band's day-to-day business as I have been before, so I'll still be sticking around. Cheers for everyone's support over the last couple of years!" said Lee upon leaving the band.

Timo Tolkki - Quarreling With Frontiers Records

In the ongoing saga between Stratovarius guitarist Timo Tolkki and Frontiers Records in regards to the release of his new album "Saana - Warrior Of Light Pt. 1 - Journey To Crystal Island", Tolkki has issued an extensive statement on his MySpace blog.

Short synopsis: due to the fact that Frontiers haven't fullfilled its contractual obligations regarding "Saana", Timo Tolkki has terminated the contract between his production company Goldenworks and them. Regardless of that, Frontiers Records have notified Timo Tolkki by email today, that they are going to release "Saana" anyway without Timo Tolkki's permission even though they don't have the material to be able to produce the CD at all, as Frontiers only have MP3 files which are not adequate to produce a high quality CD. Also they have absolutely no graphic material for the booklet, information regarding the songs or even the lyrics...

You can find the full blog here. The Frontiers press release regarding the album can be found here.
