Children Of Bodom - Album Details Unveiled, Teasers Online

Official press release

Children Of Bodom, the hard partying Finnish Heavy Metal band that features frontman and modern-day guitar hero Alexi Laiho will release its new album Relentless Reckless Forever on March 8, 2011 via Universal Music.

Recorded in Finland's Petrax Studios with famed rock producer Matt Hyde (Slayer, Monster Magnet), Relentless Reckless Forever is the seventh studio album of Children Of Bodom's illustrious career and the first new record from the band since 2008's Blooddrunk, which debuted at #22 on Billboard's Top 200 Chart and scored the quintet its third consecutive #1 debut in Finland. On Relentless Reckless Forever, COB's high-energy hooks and electric energy forge stadium-sized heavy metal anthems that seethe with both marvelous musicianship and a phenomenal pop prowess. The quintet's unique union of haunting melodies, rhythmic sensibility, guitar-and-keyboard interplay and king-size solos is supercharged to the maximum, and the resulting record is poised to push the band - already on the brink of breakout success in the U.S. - to an altogether new pinnacle.

"We worked super hard on this album, at least for me it was pretty much no sleep or rest for six weeks," stated Laiho. "But we were determined to make the best COB album ever, so we were willing to do whatever it took. Of course, having our producer Matt Hyde kicking our asses 24/7 definitely made the results even better, so obviously we're more than anxious to get this album out there"

The first single and video from Relentless Reckless Forever is "Was it Worth It?". COB shot a high energy music video for the track, joining forces with two-time X Games gold medalist and two-time Thrasher Magazine "Skater of the Year" Chris Cole as well as noted pro skaters Jamie Thomas, Garrett Hill and Tom Asta (the current #1 Amateur skateboarder in the world). Filmed on location at central Pennsylvania's residential Action Sports compound Camp Woodward and directed by Dale Resteghini for Raging Nation Films (Pink Floyd, Santana, Mötley Crüe), the video was shot guerrilla style, sans treatment; honing in directly on Children Of Bodom's high-spirited fire and the skaters' eye-opening execution.

"The single "Was It Worth It?" is a total party song, said Laiho. "It's not your typical Bodom sound, but it's one of my favorites and heavy as hell." Watch a short trailer below.

Sounds damn soft and lame. Shitty mainstream metal band.
No wonder they make an Eddie Murphy cover.

All they care for is Billboard charts, getting the attention of skateboarding teenagers and boasting about Guitar Hero.
As sold out as a metal band can be. It's this kind of thing, among others, that make me hate the current metal scene.

First I saw the cover, and I was like: cool stuff.
Then I saw the guitar hero/"best album ever" reference and I was like: hmmm something is wrong...
Then I read the tracklist and I was like: wtf ! definitely wrong !
And the video....that video.... I went: skateboard + soft riff... OMG poser aleeeert !

Only positive thing is that the song didn't start with a nintendo keyboard.
Hope mainstream fans and skater kids enjoy it but i'll stick to the old three.

How can they sell out with the new album when they have considered sell-outs for years now? Their preferred route has been evident for at least 5 years now, some might say that Hate Crew Deathroll fits into the category as well (which would make it 7 years).

Why in the world anyone is expecting them to go back to their roots is beyond me...

For the record, I used to be a big fan of Bodom, then I was less of a fan, now I sometimes listen to their songs, I think Blooddrunk was a boring album, but AYDY was at least memorable. I didn't watch the videos, but I will wait for the album to come out nonetheless.

Just to be sure everything is clear: I never said Bodom are solding out now. I consider this band as a shitty sold out mainstream metal band since many years. And I think all their albums after FTR suck.

And I don't expect them to go back to their roots anytime soon. The band has fallen in the pit of mediocrity and most likely will never get out of it. As long as the band is under the lead of a braindead alcoholic, drug addict and immature little bitch like Alexi Laiho, it will never go anywhere musically.

I'm right there with you. Follow the Reaper was them at their prime, and in the right state of mind to make great music. It seems now that partying is the primary focus, and music is just a part of it. I think they've been listening to a little bit too much Andrew W.K. This album cover looks like a cheap Tim Burton rip-off.

Those are some of the most hilariously shitty song titles I've seen this year. Not expecting anything else from these guys though.

This would be funny if they were like 14. Now it's just sad.

But whatever, I actually have good metal to listen to, and COB has not interested me in the slightest for quite some time. I'm outa here.

Actually I was more hoping to be graced with some kind of lol inducing crappiness, and out of boredom and nothing better to do I clicked the link. What I found was vomit inducing.

Everytime COB releases something new the same haters show up to say how much they hate this band. On another forum, when AYDY was released in 2006, I said something like these days it seems SO COOL to hate COB. I have no problem with people saying that they don't like something, but the thing that bothers me is that sometimes it seems they judge the band only by the way they look, their album covers (you really have a problem with your eyes or in your head if you think a tree with corpses in it looks like a Christmas Tree) or by their popularity, forgetting the quality of the music. Even when the quality of the music is mentionned in these posts, it's by underdevelopped commentaries like: 'This is shit'? But why? Why do metalheads have a problem with popularity???? Being popular doesn't necessarily involve 'selling out' or compromising the quality of the music. And have you ever thought of the point of recording music and selling an album if it's not to become somewhat popular?

To me COB didn't really sell out. Metallica sold out, they abandonned Thrash metal and even Metal to play a crappy sort of heavy rock which doesn't even remind their glory days. COB evolved, but they still play the same genre they played in their beginning.

Also, concerning the decision to put skateboarders in their video is not a suprise. Alexi is a fan of extreme sports since a long time ago so it doesn't come as a surprise to me. I even think it makes something refreshing instead of doing the same shit Metal bands do everytime they shoot a videoclip: shooting the band playing in a grim lookin' place.

I don't like COB as much as when they released Hatebreeder, but it has nothing to do with the way they dress or their videoclips. I think COB is still a good band but they evolved in a direction and I evolved too as a listener in a different direction.

And the people saying Alexi Laiho is not a guitar hero lol! I would like to see them grab a guitar and play better solos than him. You can criticize his music but you can't say ihe is not a kick-ass guitar player that's being hypocritical. I don't like Luca Turilli last solo albums but I can't say he is not a guitar-hero that's bullshit. I don't like Yngwie Malmsteen's music, but I can't say he is a bad guitar player because he is one of the best there is.

And lol, like if you could judge the album by 10 seconds of each songs..... On the teasers I heard you don't even ear a full single riff. You haters have as much credibility as fanboys...

My two-cents!

It looks like they need Kuoppala back. Everything since Latvala has joined the band has been shit. I'm not hating him he's a good guitar player, but Kuoppala seems to be a better fit. The track names in this are pure shit. I think they need this album to flop and to be dropped by nuclear blast. Maybe then, when they're back at the bottom, they can rise anew.

Also: no songs mentioning Lake Bodom. What the fuck is that?

Bodom, prepare for itemised insults.

Looks/ Appearance: The album cover looks like a halloween-themed video game. Using skaters in the video sadly reminds me more of Avril Lavigne than Andrew WK which is probably what they were going for.

'Sold Out' status: Specifically mentioning they are 'on the verge of US breakthrough' in the blurb makes it clear that is the only market they are interested in since that's where the money is. It just means the music has to be dumbed way way down. No offense to the US, but the mainstream pop music industry there is almost as phlegm-inducing as the one in the UK - just with more money going into it.

Music: Was it Worth it, sounds like the sort of dull, dry hard rock song popular euro power metal bands do these days. The rest of the samples sound like rehashes of old Bodom material.

Popularity: I have no problems with them being popular. Let's not forget the most popular metal bands in the world include my favourites - Sabbath and Maiden. Popular is fine. Its the way they're getting there that's lame.
