The 10th Annual Metal Storm Awards are now open for voting. Polling will last through the end of February, so take your time and check out our nominees.

Feel free to tell us how awesome our picks are/how much we blow goats because we don't like your favorite band below.

Where should I vote for Pryapisme - Hyperblast Super Collider? Users are writing in both in avantgarde and cyber/industrial categories.

Both do fit, but we considered it for avant garde as it's really, really wacky

Avantgarde is definitely the better choice.

Quite disappointed that Abyssal/Antediluvian/Grave Miasma/Obliteration didn't make it, but anyway my vote is reserved for Tribulation.

Shame indeed, as I can already tell 3 or 4 albums in the nomination which don't belong there if you ask me. Starting right away with Carcass.

Others, besides Carcass, not worthy in there would be Revocation (especially that one it is even weaker than Carcass), Gorguts and Autopsy for me.

If you knock off Carcass, Revocation, Gorguts and Autopsy still there left with tough nominiations. Only thing is those 3 to 4 bands have occupied other great death metal releases. That's shitty.

I don't blame on staff too. I blame on fantastic DM releases of 13.

For anyone having trouble finding the albums to check out, look on Spotify. They were my best friend during last two MS Awards.

I tried yesterday, and half of the albums I searched for aren't available. It seems to me that the staff finds lesser known bands each year... which is a great thing, actually

Besides, where would I vote for Keldian? In the Power Metal category?

Yeah, it's hard to find all of them, but it's definitely helped me find more than I used to be able to. YouTube is always a good resource too. Either way it's helped me in my effort to not download music.

Agree about the DM nominees. There was plenty of fantastic stuff yet about a third of the bands seems to be in the awards coz of their name... Well, awards are rarely about quality and more about popularity so I'll stay out as usual.

Damn it!, for me the most difficult choise is the Melodic Death category. it has greats nominations, I´m gonna choose later ´couse I have to listen to Construct and Deciever of the Gods once again after all. Though everythings points to Spiritual Migration

2013 was a great year for Prog, but not having Witherscape or Ayreon in the nominees and having them in the Top 2013 chart is ridiculous. I think that category will need more listens to cast my vote anyway.
Also, think Meloblack/Metalgaze should be different categories, there are great releases there and very different from one another. My meloblack pick is definitely October Falls, wether Metalgaze should be between Apocynthion and Vallendusk.

someone on this site suggested calling such dense death metal with black metal hints "plague metal"
i consider that a great idea, despite agreeing to your post-argumentation

I think that was Marcel hahah. But unless I remember a different discussion, he jokingly suggested that term for blackened death metal bands since "black death" was the informal term for the bubonic plague. At any rate that sounds like a quite good description for this kind of music .

Ha, I am reminded of Iced Earth's "Plagues of Babylon" Tour!

Overall I think it would be pretty cool and beneficial to have three separate death metal categories (which is admittedly a lot but arguably necessary): brutal/technical death metal, melodic death metal, and death metal. That way a lot of the contemporary stuff gets separated from the traditional stuff and the melodic stuff is still separated from the more extreme stuff.

(Stuff stuff stuff...)

Yeah, I think three categories would do nicely as well.

Has the staff ever considered doing an article for runner-up awards nominees? I know you guys always have trouble narrowing it down to the ones we see, thought it would be cool for us to get to see some of the ones that just missed the cut.

Woah woah woah!!! The Heavy Metal cathegory it's probably the heaviest I've ever seen in MS: Argus, Atlantean Kodex, Satan, Ghost, In (fucking) Solitude? Damn! Most of my favorite albums of this year are here haha.
And probably this is the first year that I'm not too disappointed with the Thrash metal nominees, but don't get me started with the Death Metal poll, I can't believe that Obliteration are not in there... Oh well, I hace lots of stuff to listen, can't believe that even when I try to listen ti almost everything, there's always something that goes under my radar. Happy voting everybody!

I have no idea how gorguts, portal antediluvian etc can be called post-death metal.

I've never seen anyone call those bands post-death around here. If they exist I friggin hope they are not staffers because that's just retarded.

The only band that I can comfortably call 'post-death' is Flourishing since that is a mixture of death metal and post-hardcore

Ulcerate is another obvious one though considering their big influences from bands like Neurosis.

it's a write-in vote, so not a mistake on the part of MS, since it wasn't nominated. But I have seen way older albums being written in than one that is 2 years old. Maybe the person wrote it in thought it was from this year becauuse the vinyl version of it was released in 2013?
