Steven Wilson - Bidding Farewell To Blackfield

As he mentioned before, Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson, Storm Corrosion) plans to have one final performance with the side band and project Blackfield, then he will leave the band to focus on his solo career. The final show will happen next week, in New York City at the Best Buy Theater on the 1st of May, and will be his farewell and thank you to the band and fans. Aviv Geffen will continue recording and touring as Blackfield with new collaborators.

John Wesley (Porcupine Tree) is opening the show with his band.

Good news. PLEASE STOP GO BACK TO PT

Sadly, I don't see that happening. After putting PT on the back burner and now Blackfield to focus on the solo career, I think he is further and further away from PT.

Hope I'm wrong. I would kiss Marcel if PT comes back (I swear!)

People still care about Wilson? I don't know how Steven bounces his name in crappy news these days?!

Is his projects not succeeding?

Gaah, when was the last time I heard SW's music?!

Unfortunately, I have the same feeling. Not that his solo project is bad but PT is definitely his best output.
Also, to the best of my knowledge, Marcel has a girlfriend now. You'd better find someone single ;p

Unfortunately a New PT album is not likely to happen. Some of my favorite work is from his Porcupine Tree stuff, but I personally find his solo albums to be highly enjoyable, so I have no problem with him continuing in his solo project. I would be incredibly excited if PT got back together, but I'm not too terribly disappointed that this might not be the case.

He's through his personal interests, classical prog rock and i think that's why he can't write song for PT, as a nearly Metal band.about blackfield, as what noted, he's focusing on his solo career and in fact he left the band before "Blackfied IV"

Last year. Album of the year btw.

I'm glad he's focusing on his own carreer. It's sad that PT and Blackfield have to bite the dust but the man simply doesnt have the time. Between all the mixing and his own writting...

off the record: The Raven was his best record ever.

The Raven was dreadfully average 70's prog-rock worship that doesn't even come close to anything he's done with PT or even some of Blackfield.

Here's the thing, PT is PT only because the members were invested in it. If interest and/or motivation waiver, PT would surly suffer. Why let a good thing be a shell of itself for the sake of existence? I love the band but I'd prefer they'd be on hiatus than put out an uninspired mediocre release.

Well, it was one of the borefest I ever went through. As Lit said, it was nothing but blind worshipping wannabe 70's Prog rock aficionado album. Nothing great as such except to thump down painful 4 disc to give an extra weight to stand out which really didn't happen. Sadly, people swayed many good prog records when Wilson dropped his borefest. But, quite happy to see people didn't stick to blind Wilson fanboys opinions on his disc.

Mind you, i've heard really good records from SW(including PT) but The Raven was venomously boring.

I know he does but it would be for a good cause. I'm sure she wouldn't mind

I like his solo work, his last album was really good but PT is one of my fav bands, that will never change. I have plenty of PT CDs to listen to while I wait. Luckily, PT's discography is very vast and amazing.

I really don't get why people jump on that "wannabe classic prog" bandwagon. It was clearly part of his goal to do so, using KC's original Mello and getting structures from Classic Genesis and VDgG, and what is an undeniable fact is the level of musicianship that just goes through the roof. So, you unconventional structured Music played by some of the best musicians working nowadays, how can that be bad prog?

Looking through your POV, sure, some songs are easier to dislike and a little bit "more boring" like "Drive", "The Pin Drop" or the own Title Track. But seriously, If you're into Prog as much as I am, how can someone be indifferent to stuff like "Luminol" or "The Holy Drinker" with all those amazing jams? Really dont get that argument on wannabe prog. To say Steven Wilson created wannabe 70's prog is just plain wrong, since, between his carrer as a musician, producer and sound engineer, with all the amazing remasters he's made on the Classics, if theres someone who really understands Prog in all its form, thats him.
