True. I guess that album was "discovered" here quite late, but it definitely deserved to have a place in the awards.

None were ignored. All were among the nominee pools for their respective genre.

Zierler finished 12th in Prog noms, only 10 get in. Angelus was nominated in thrash, but finished on the outside looking in, and Armageddon didn't terribly impress those who voted in melodeath.

Hoped for Nadiwrath and Shrine Of Insanabilis in black Metal.
I'm also surprised Tsjuder didn't make it AND that they still haven't got a write-in
I admit Terzij De Horde has made an amazing debut and I didn't consider it for my 2015 list: I just listened to it 3 days ago. Shame on me.

And Grave is nowhere to be seen. Had them in my top 20

Having a big problem in Grindcore. A lot of very good releases but also a lot of diversity within the genre itself. Difficult choice

See Bitter COld's answer above. I would have loved to see Zierler nom'd, but others disagreed (same for Solefald in avant, for example)
As for SX, they're really more about power now. Prog US power, sure, but prog is quite background stuff for them now.

I think this is pretty accurate. A lot of supposed extreme metal isn't that extreme e.g. a lot of melodic death metal is easy listening stuff in grand scheme of metal. I don't have any trouble flowing from Dark Tranquillity and early period In Flames to Iced Earth, Nevermore and even 2000s Iron Maiden. But going In Flames/Dark Tranquillity to Morbid Angel or Atheist or Pig Destroyer doesn't really flow.

Oblivionized is in hardcore/deathcore/metalcore but it sounds like grindcore to me (vox occasionally goes to hardcore shout but many grindcore bands use this). Did anyone actually listen to this?

I think in some ways there's too many sections and as such too much overlap. E.g. some of the bands on melodeath bit could also be regarded as metalcore (Sylosis or the Agonist).

Cattle Decapitation could easily sit under Death Metal as well as grindcore.

Maybe reducing number of categories so death/grind or merging metalcore and melodic death together (and maybe also including a lot of folk)?

Sometimes more is less and vice versa.

Oh and Tribulation in DM still makes me laugh!

I'm fine with Tribulation in the death metal category. Mainly because I have no idea where else to put it (Gothic?)

BTW. Westfield Massacre (aka Divine Heresy reunion without Cazares) should be on first place in drama category

I completely missed this. Bleed The Fifth wasn't a bad album so am curious about this one.

Biggest Letdown's gonna be hard for me. Blind Guardian, Dark Moor, Devin Townsend, Ghost, Iron Maiden, Leprous, Nightwish, Scorpions, Stratovarius. I just can't decide!

Well miracle can happen, but I personally don't care what wins so much, I wont die if what so ever wins , but I agree about Gothic one, since someone delete my doom Draconian vote, my original was Moonspell in gothic, well we can put it as surprise what it was, maybe best what band wrote after 90's
It does not matter, I wont vote about album what I have not heard and this time doom, extreme doom and HM was harder to choose, as always doom.

Hi! Name's Rod. I listen to albums too (I've seen Oblivionized live too!).
Oblivionized was a tricky one because I think it could go to either one... Only not really. I fucked up on that one tbh. Wish I gave you a good explanation to why I fucked up but I have none besides "way too much to do with the Awards". I'm only thankful it didn't end up in a worse Place.

As for many categories and stuff, well... Metal is like that. Merging categories like melodeath and metalcore wouldn't work. Bands like The Agonist could have worked as metalcore back in the Lullabies album but I dont Think so anymore.
Cattle Dcapitation Went indeed through a long ass debate regarding Death and grindcore!
Merging Death and grind would be a terrible idea though. It would involve having bands like, let's say... Bloodbath and Pig Destroyer! Not compatible.

As for Tribulation, I'll just respond the same way I responded Joe:

doom, extreme doom, heavy and other I have heard all albums and much much much more, but same time Draconian still plays gothic/doom whitch is DOOM and I think this is best their album, and still dont get why it can not be under doom, powerful album, better as others, thanks to Hejke
