Judas Priest - Update On New Album, Start Recording In January

Dissident aggressors Judas Priest are working on a new album to follow Redeemer Of Souls (2014) and guitarist Richie Faulkner was recently interviewed by Sweetwater editorial director Mitch Gallagher during "Making Hard Rock Look Easy", a three-day recording master class which was held October 20-22 at Sweetwater's campus in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The band has been in the studio working on new songs but the actual recording will begin in January. The album is expected in 2017.

Speaking about the progress of the songwriting and recording sessions for the band's new album, Richie said: "I just flew straight back out of the U.K., straight to Sweetwater. We've just been in the studio for a couple of months putting songs together. We haven't started the recording process yet, but we're recording demos; we're recording songs that work without the production to save them, if you know what I mean. But the core value... We're putting down some grassroots ideas and fleshing them out for the next Priest record. So we're gonna go into the studio to start recording in January. So it should be out sometime next year. But we're not touring next year. So we're gonna be touring, hopefully, in 2018."

Washed up band. I won't make the mistake again to give them another chance. They had a good run, but all good things must(/have) come to an end.

Nope, it is still alive and kicking. It's not innovative but it is still very much alive.

I am a Priest fan, just not of the mediocre stuff they have released over the last couple of albums and some albums earlier on in their career as well.

I am a Priest fan and am just glad to hear from them. I think RoD was average, not bad but mostly without ambition, but I am always willing to give them a chance for a new release. If people hate on them just for the sake of hating on them, hey, just leave them be.

I'm not the biggest fan of theirs but I know all their releases and enjoy a fair amount of it. I just dont see the point in making new albums anymore. They have reached their zenith years ago, and have the status as legends.

They might put out another good one after a couple of poor ones. Painkiller was one of their best received albums, and it followed 2 or 3 of their poorest received ones. Plus my 2 fav Priest albums are about 30 years apart, so there might be another gem in 20 years time

Making the same album for 30 years isnt exactly entertaining for me.

It worked for Motorhead.
