Tommy Karevik, better known as the vocalist and songwriter for Seventh Wonder announced on his Facebook profile that he will no longer be a part of the band, and that parties will remain musically active apart. Karevik joined Seventh Wonder in 2005 and later Kamelot in 2012.

Karevik made the following statement:

"There's no easy way to say what I am about say, so I will just come out and say it... moving forward, I will no longer be the singer of Seventh Wonder. Man... I knew this was going to be very hard, but it was so much harder than I thought actually putting the pen to the paper. Seeing the words written down makes me more than a little emotional. I love the music we've made. I love my brothers in the band and I am so incredibly proud of everything we've managed to create for ourselves during the last 18 something years. Organically, we fought for our own little piece of real estate in the prog metal universe, put a fence around it and called it our own. Unique and uplifting prog metal with catchy choruses. Playful, poppy melodies and raw emotion. Someone once said we sounded like "Europe on steroids"... I loved that description so that one stuck with me.

"We were all boys that grew to be men alongside each other. Through celebrations and tragedies we supported each other. Some became fathers and husbands. Many of the absolute best moments and memories, not only in music but in life in general, we shared together. Nothing will ever take that away or diminish the importance of that for me. I am a relentlessly stubborn person... I don't consider myself a quitter... I don't give up. However I think it is important to understand when it is best to move on for the sake of your own progress and well-being as well as for the people around you. To move on is simply making room for the new things you want in life. That being said, I feel like I have done my part as a singer, writer and co-producer of Seventh Wonder. I have said what I wanted to say. I have spent all my energy, countless hours of blood sweat and tears, and poured my heart and soul into this band since day one, and It couldn't have been any other way. It is just the way I am wired. But everything has a time and a place and it's time for me to let my creativity and energy flow in a different direction.

"Bottom line is that we only have one life. That is true for everyone and I feel like I need to make room for all the music that I still have inside me. Music that makes me happy and that not yet have had an outlet. It is the best and most honest way I can contribute to the world. It's a new chapter of my life, and one that I am very excited about. Seventh Wonder is definitely a part of my identity and that's never going to change.

"I am so thankful that I got to be a part of the SW journey. Thankful to my bandmates for taking me in and believing in me all those years ago, and thankful for everything that it led to. It has very much shaped me into who I am today. We sure have come a long way from that moldy stamp of a rehearsal space in Ulvsunda, and my somewhat unconventional audition of "Stad i ljus". And we did it as a band... Together.

"Lastly, I am thankful for all the beautiful friends and supporters that we, as a band, have had the honor of meeting along the way. Unconditional love is the best way I can describe it. Always there on the sidelines cheering us on, even through periods of time when there was seemingly very little to cheer for. You are some of the finest and most patient fans in the world and you are a huge reason to why this is so hard to write.

"So goodnight, but not goodbye. Rest assured that you will be hearing a lot more from both me and SW in the future, as we will all keep following our hearts in pursuit of happiness through the arts.

"There is no bad blood between me and the rest of the band as we keep being the best of friends, and I wish nothing but success and happiness for the guys moving forward. Thanks for listening. I Love you all, and I hope to have your continued support and understanding."

Kind of expected. Kamelot brings in more money even with half as decent music as SW, and unless the entire band moves to another continent this cannot be kept up for long (but even then would be difficult). Still props to him for trying to make it work for so long.

This is sad news. Tommy Karevik is a superb vocalist and some of the most memorable moments from many Seventh Wonder songs (especially on Mercy Falls) were his powerful high register vocal melodies. Alas, it is heartwarming to see a friendly parting of ways between band members for once. It's not surprising; given that Karevik also worked or works as a firefighter, he seems like legitimately awesome person.

Well, that sucks. The Testament blew the lid off of Kamelot's new album.

Really too bad. Karevik's talent is completely wasted in Kamelot. Their most recent is the best of the Karevik era and it's still just OK.

Hope Seventh Wonder takes their time picking a new vocalist. I'd love to see them get a guy like Christian Alvestam and throw us all a curveball.

That's a real shame, I assumed he would leave when there was the big gap between The Great Escape and Tiara after he joined Kamelot; that they managed to release 2 strong records afterwards in Tiara and The Testament made it seem like it would be a sustainable collaboration, as long as the rest of SW were OK to be low-activity and fill in around his Kamelot schedule, but apparently not. His work in SW is clearly stronger than what Kamelot have done, even if the latter's latest record was a step in the right direction, so I hope SW are still able to keep going with a good replacement.

Damn, that would be a worthy replacement indeed.

Fair enough, I would have preferred him stay with Seventh Wonder though, but I guess it's his decision in the end, so good luck to him

Sad choice but as I see it, SW have had to adapt their schedule to Kamelots.. this can result in SW having easier to tour and record albums. I think it can end up in SW favor. Let's just hope they find a worthy replacement.

The way I see it, there are four (known, at least) vocalists who can succesfully take Karevik's place: The previously mentioned Christian Älvestam and Daniel Heiman, Michael Eriksen (of Circus Maximus) and Antti Railio. Another option would be to remain an instrumental quartet for an album (which is least likely to happen, given they already announced they are searching for a replacement).

Maybe Vasilis Georgiou (Black Fate, Sunburst & Innosense). He sounds like Roy Khan.

Michael Eriksen should stay with his band, I'm looking forward to new music from Circus Maximus, hopefully soon.

Do we really need another Khan-sound-alike?
I mean, prior to joining Kamelot, Karevik sounded very different and unique, almost poppy. It wasn't until he joined Kamelot, did he start developing a more melodramatic, Khan-esque vocal charactaristics.

You and me both.
That being said, I'm slowly getting tired of waiting for that possibility.

I just said what the vocalist sounded like, might be a good fit for Seventh Wonder.

I'm pretty torn, on the one hand it makes sense financially to stick with Kamelot, but musically/artistically it felt like Tommy could actually be himself and do his own thing in Seventh Wonder instead of feeling like he has to fill in the shoes of the iconic singer who preceded him in Kamelot or try to meet the expectations of that band's fanbase already more accustomed to Roy Khan's style. Either way, best of luck to you Tommy, thank you for all of the years of amazing music and I hope you continue to do what makes you happy.
