Arch Enemy - Re-Records Album Later This Year

The big news in the Arch Enemy camp is that Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Testament, Exodus, etc.) has completed the mixing and mastering of the new Arch Enemy record, "The Root Of All Evil". This special release features a seIection of completely re-recorded songs from the first three Arch Enemy albums, "Black Earth", "Stigmata" and "Burning Bridges", and will be released via Century Media Records on September 28th in Europe and October 6th in North America.

Guitarist Michael Amott comments: "This one took some time to get done, despite the fact that the actual songs were already written a good few years ago! The album was recorded at a few different locations locally here in Sweden - produced by Arch Enemy, with Daniel Erlandsson (drums) handling a lot of the engineering. It was then sent to Andy Sneap in England for the mixing/mastering and I simply can't stop listening to this since I got the final mixes!"

In the light of Arch Enemy finding their defining line-up and a bigger worldwide recognition with 2002's "Wages Of Sin" album, it has been a logical decision to look into updating and upgrading the earlier compositions, to be able to present them in the splendour of a 2009 shape.

Regarding further details of the process, Michael Amott adds: "We basically headed down to our rehearsal studio, got reacquainted with the tunes, picked out our favorites and proceeded to give a breath of new life to those early songs, with the idea to have the possibility to re-add them to the live set and follow up with some touring activity! I'm loving hearing these songs with a fresh new sound and performance, everyone in the band did a killer job on it - especially Angela's vocal performance is astoundingly intense and brutal and it was also cool to hear Sharlee lay down some great bass tracks on the early songs! The production and mix is crushing and heavy as hell - it really makes these old songs shine - it sounds like a brand new thing!".

More details on "The Root Of All Evil" will be available in the coming weeks.

I'm skeptical. I never really got into Liiva's stuff, but I don't think Angela can touch it. There's almost a cult following to AE's early years, so this may not be the best move on behalf of the Amott brothers. It should be interesting; I'll check it out if it ever streams.

I like the part about Angela's vocals being brootal. I really like their music, but seriously. She has a knack for sounding like a herd of panicked sheep running from a renegade coyote.

Think this is a pretty decent idea the vocals were the sore spot in the early days, I think, as the band have said, this will give new life to some pretty decent tracks.

This sounds very interesting indeed, considering I've always been a fan of their early stuff with Liva (and I sometimes wonder if I liked this phase more than gossows). I hope they don't go with a lot of stigmata, and have more from black earth/burning bridges.

Mmhh..I like Liiva's vocals better than Angela's, it would have been nice to listen to a remastered early record but with the original vocalist, but on the other hand I assume they'll start playing those songs more often wich is awesome, it would be nice to hear Beast of Man or Dark Insanity live again

Not a huge fan of Arch-Enemy, but what I heard was good. It's always cool when bands revisit their older material to remix and refurbish a few songs to make em new again though. I'm sure it will do justice to their reputation.

I hope they kidding, burning bridges was an excellent album, her voice is aweful, most of the albums with her are all spliced and re-recorded over computer synch.

No no no no no fuck no.

Don't touch those albums - Angela is not a patch on Johan. How is she ever going to pull off songs like The Immortal? Johan spat the words of that song with a venom that she just doesn't have.

I won't be buying this.

I lost interest in Arch Enemy after they got rid of Liiva mainly because I find Angela's vocals flat and boring. The guitars are still awesome for the most part, but I just can't get into her vocals...

I remember them trying to do a Carcass cover with her and I thought she ruined it.

They better have "let the killing begin", my fav from Liiva's reign...but a lot of there new songs have a heavy metal sound to them, & if Angela can sing in a "female" voice, they should add a vocal twist for a chorus in future songs...thatll b some experimenting...
im really hoping in this re-recording, i wasnt a fan of the 1st 2 albums, but "burning bridges" was good
