Chthonic - Named "Best International Artist" At Tibetan Music Awards

Taiwanese extreme metallers Chthonic have been honored with the "Best International Artist" award for their participation in the Free Tibet concert in Taipei on July 11 of this year. The award was given out at this year's Tibetan Music Awards, which took place on October 10 in McLeod Ganj, India.

Says vocalist Freddy Lim: "This is an honor for all the performers, staff, volunteers, and audiences involved with the Free Tibet concert earlier this year in Taiwan. Let's keep fighting for justice and freedom, and I believe that all Tibetans will be winners and earn their rights eventually!"

Chthonic is currently on tour with Satyricon in support of its latest album, "Mirror of Retribution", which was issued in the U.S. on September 15 via Spinefarm Records.

Formed in 1995, Chthonic (a name deriving from a Greek word signifying spirits of the underworld) has delivered an 11-track body of work that touches on both the spirit and mortal worlds, with loss of national identity and the sometimes turbulent history of their homeland recurring themes.

With Anthrax guitarist Rob Caggiano at the production and mixing helm, "Mirror Of Retribution" sees the award-winning musicians further developing a style that started with the 1999 album "Where The Ancestors' Souls Gathered", blending full-on metal of the darker persuasion with traditional Taiwanese instruments such as two-string violin, the hena.

Why? It's only appropriate that Chthonic's music would appeal to a people who are right now suffering the same cultural and political squashing that was previously exerted on Taiwan. That Tibet has music awards at least shows that there is some freedom of expression there in some circles. Sorry to get all political and stuff on you, just felt that maybe this event needed some context to it for some.

A mythology is a religion different enough from your own for it's absurdity to be obvious.

So, Taiwan has their own music awards, eh? I didn't know that.

Also, congratulation to Chthonic for the award. And I didn't know that Chthonic had released an album that recently. I haven't listened to this band enough, so I should fix that.

The band has been politically active ever since they were founded. I believe Freddie and Doris even had an audience with the Dalai Lama for their effort in the struggel to free Tibet. But don't let the fact that they are politically motivated keep you from discovering that they just make awesome music

Dude...don't let that "justice thing" fool you...
Chthonic wouldn't give a f*** about Tibet if their rivalry wasn't with China!
All they ever want and are doing is to get rid of all Chinese relations (which is ridiculous..)
I guess he must have suffer some serious impact to forget that no matter how much BS history he makes up,
CHINESE WILL ALWAYS BE IN YOUR BLOOD FREDDY!
