Hey guys,

Just thought I'd create a thread so we can clearly see everyone's reaction to Metallica's new album!
Please give a reason for your answer, - let's keep this thread intelligent.



When I first heard Cyanide and The Day That Never Comes, I thought something along the lines of "wtf". Then I bought the album and listened to the entire thing in the car on my way to work.
IMO this album is good in its entirety, I enjoyed listening to the entire album, it would seem that the songs sound better in the context of the entire album, rather than by themselves.

In future (if they make another album) I would like to see some more aggressive vocal work from James, an updated knowledge of drum techniques and solos from Lars, perhaps a solo from Rob and a few solos that have actual FEELING from Kirk.

As I said, in its entirety this album makes for a good listen, so I give it the thumbs up.
I think that if Metallica create another album, it will be better. I see this album as a milestone towards their old metal-selves.

i love this album but im agree that Unforgiven III is the worst song of this album. and im agree that their Instrumental song is not what i exepted. but when i listened it, time and time again, i realized that the begining of the song is a little boring but then it will be a good song. but my rate for this album is 10. cause it desreves it. especially kirk's solos r great at this album. and drums production is unbelievable not bad!
songwriting is nice and if u think rob is better than jason so i call u unmetal

sorry then. take a look at suicide and redemption again! u will find it nice. but im agree that the begining is a really weird. but after kirk srarts the solo it will be nice.

Youre such a Metallifanboy Black God. Do you seriously think this album deserves a 10? Not many albums deserve 10s. Ride the Lightning I think is the only album in Metallicas discography that get a 10. Death Magnetic, gets about a 7-8... Its got some okay songs on it, but some pretty boring tracks. The unforgiven 3 is horrible. The instrumental, boring. James' vocals, bout as aggressive as a girl scout selling cookies to an elderly woman. Drums, well Lars has never really been that good, and now that he's older, he sucks even more. Production... Hate it.

take a look at votes at metal storm. i think the most votes r 10, 9, and 8 so its not weird man. so im not the one who think it deserves 10. im a diehard tallica fan, and i think its not a fault. and the weird thing is that i only like jaymz in this band right now and before i liked jason too. about lars a kirk i have to say that i dont like their personality.
but Death Magnetic is alright, and desreces a 10. this is 2008 not 1984! so we cant compare it to Ride The Lightning. meaningless and usless is this cmpare. compare metallica with testament's new album or slayer's last album. cause im agree that u cant compare Ride Or MAster with any album in the world.

the other thing take a look at this poll, 5 awesome, 5 yes its alright, and 3 not really. so more ppl liked it so much. and some who rated it low rnt metallica fans and i have doubt if they even listened to the music!

Needs an option for "heard about half the songs and thought they were pretty abysmal so will probably never bother to listen to the entire album." Musically it seems fairly competent but it all just feels so obligatory and pointless. Also the vocals are hilariously bad, when your abilities deteriorate you should make an effort to gracefully adjust your performance accordingly, not go balls-out in a way that just emphasizes how bad you are.

Testaments new album, and Slayers last album kick the shit outta this one. Kerry King, Jeff Hanneman, and Alex Skolnick all kick up some pretty cool solos on the last albums they played on. Chuck Billy's and Tom Araya's vocals I think were still aggressive enough to fit the music. And Dave Lombardo and Paul Bostaph SLAY Lars behind the kit.

Some, like myself, who rated it low aren't Metallica fans for a reason. That reason being every album they've put out in the last 23 years. I'm a frequent listener to "Kill 'Em All" "Ride The Lightening" and "Master Of Puppets" (the latter being when I'm with friends), so you can't accuse me of never listening to the music. In fact, most people who never actually listened to Metallica in the first place probably couldn't give two shits either way.

I voted it ''Not really, no.'' even I hear it its ok but I dont like it, because for me Metallica is past will be past and even thay criate awesoem album, band still be past for me better I live in past how go whut time and stop lsiten music what I trooly love and like

I voted the first option. The album's not worth the fuss about it. Drum production sucks IMO, sounds like Lars is beating pots & pans, not drums. We also have to admit that James is old, and his voice is old too. Just retire man. And what about UNFORGIVEN 3? Wtf?! If they needed so much to do something that reminds the old times, they could try Harvester 2.

In general, it's an average album...If a band from my town had released it, it would be good. But for Metallica, it's just an attempt to cover up the failure of their previous effort. Nice try guys.

@SlaytallicA : they're back if you prefer Load over Master Of Puppets.

honestly, "meh."

i gave each track probably 3 spins or so from their streaming website over the weekend.

it's good. easily the best thing they've done in the last, oh, 20 years, but i partially agree with total on this. it's a bit of a glaring attempt to reach back and recapture long lost glory.

i'd score it a 6.5 or so.

it is, for the most part, well played music but it's nothing earth-shattering.

will it make my cd collection? maybe if i find a used copy and there is nothing else of interest at the local store... but hey, that's a much greater chance than anything else they've released in the past 15 years has of making my collection.

Eh, I didn't really like it, it's sub par.

Actually had the good fortune to hear this all the way through in one fairly uncomfortable sitting. Probably somewhere in the 1/10 to 2/10 range for me, maybe slightly worse than St. Anger (which had at least some traces of ambition and originality, however horribly misguided). So I went with "Not really, no." "Hate" is such a strong word and this album just doesn't inspire emotions of that intensity.

why mr x-caliber didnt listen to their mp3 then buy their abums? (im not sure if he bought the album!) but if he bought my question is why? theyve put their songs in metallica.con go there listen then buy.

I'm listening to it for the third time and it still doesn't grow on me as i supposed it would do. It stands between decent and alright.

I like the album but so far it's got nothing to amaze me and I'm not very difficult to please - so I hope you can see the problem. Metallica has established such high standards at some point and this fact will always haunt them. i think they could have done so much bettter, they haven't done their best, that's what i think/feel.

Well, from my understanding they didn't really use him in the writing process. Rob was badass in Suicidal Tendencies and Jason shined in the first Flotsam album, so you would think that Metallica would use them better. That's something I've never understood.

Voting is there for a reason, if one only voted for albums they liked every album on here would be rated a 10/10. I wont buy it because thanks to the internet I can listen to the entire album on the streaming site so I don't make the mistake of buying it, and from there I could judge that its a bad album. I believe in voicing my opinion, sorry you don't like the fact that some people think your boyfriends band is crap, and sorry that you feel "Disrespected". And yes Metallica do hear it, voices in numbers are heard.

I unfortunately dont have good internet, so therefore could not listen to it online. I bought it, hoping against hope that it would be descent, which it is. But I knew that if it even somewhat in the tiniest bit resembled the old stuff, people would blow it up to be this amazing album, that in actuallity, its not. And its the Metallica worshipers that I dont respect. I have no problems with the fans. I bet you know which one you are.

I haven't heard it yet but would like to. I guessing it would be an improvement since St. Anger lol. Ive heard some of the new songs off it and they sounded alright.

I haven't listen to it. But I have in my mind of buying it soon. Mostly because the artwork of the album looks cool
