I don't really know how to name the title so if anyone has any suggestions let a rip.

this topic is about everyone's favorite band name. it might sound cool, philosophical, or just plain "metal", name it.

my favorites are Rata Blanca(pronounced in the latin fashion like we romanians do it sounds pretty damn good, has like a special ring to it, though if i'm not mistaken it actually means "white rat" ), Iced Earth, it sounds pretty epic, the first time i heard it i imagined some kind of frozen tundra landscape, pretty much like in their self-titled song. also, 3 inches of blood sounds pretty close to their sound, very brutal, i got the image of some kind of medieval crusader slaughtering frenzy out of it. like i said, pretty close to their sound

don't forget to explain a little why you like some of these bandnames.

As far as band names go, I'd have to say my favorite would be "High on Fire". No reason really, I just like it. Goatwhore is also a pretty sweet name haha.

Lynch Mob is certainly the most prone to being construed as racist. though its not the best sounding.

i think Marduk's name represents their music/philosophy on various aspects of life. i dont think i could envision the band Marduk playing a different kind of music/holding the same views they do. Rotting Christ is good too as well as Agoraphobic Nosebleed.

Ive always like the name Angra alot, just a nice word.
Sonata Arctica sounds like a chilling melody, and is catchy.

I like the names Firewind, Saxon, and Sabaton a lot. Firewind gives me a mental picture of something powerful but flowing, bright and shining but also dangerous and tempestuous. Sabaton doesn't have a particularly cool meaning (its metal armored boots!), but the word sure sounds cool to say lol. Saxon is another awesome word, plus it really fits the band. I guess I really like names that are just fun to say >_<

Overkill.
Not pretty, just straight forward and powerful. You can tell just by the band name that they are a fast thrash metal band, and they are pretty straight forward at that, no gimmicks. Very effective I find.

Hail Of Bullets is also a really kick ass band name, the reasons I don't think need to be explained.

Only to those who don't know it is George Lynch's band. I never even thought of the band name in the sense you just described. But maybe because I knew all along of George Lynch and his Mob of musicians.

I always liked one word band names the most. Like Slayer. When you hear the name Slayer for the first time it just sounds like they would sound like a violent thrash band.

Emperor is good to. Its such a big, tyrannical, and intimidating sounding name.

Gojira is on the list to because whenever I think of the name I think of a bunch of scared Asian people running and screaming "GOJIRA!!"... it makes me smile.

Marduk is name of a Sumerian god (god of creature I think), and he was the defender of Hammurabi, the sixth king of Babylon. I think this name is a very good name, especially when a Scandinavian band chose it.. Because in Scandinavia most bands chose Nordic names and Tolkein based names..

While I was still in the states, I read a 'Revolver' with a Goatwhore interview. They asked, how did you get the name Goatwhore? The band said they were at a strip club and the woman was old and one of the guys said she looks like a goatwhore! And there it was! lol

Secrets of the Moon- Who knows what the secrets are...
Deathspell Omega- WHO doesn't like this name?! It is the ultimate ritualistic name and the sum of the band.

On the opposite side, Job For A Cowboy is just a ridiculous name...

Well, I'll say that Anorexia Nervosa sounds the best to me (I don't know why, it just does ). Also Dark Tranquillity, Flowing Tears,
and Shape Of Despair sound pretty cool too...

Spastic Ink and Blotted Science give rise to thoughts of "writing", so it comes as no surprise how creative both bands are in their compositions. I am also a huge fan of the name Spiral Architect, thanks to BS for that one though.
I also think Strapping Young Lad is a genius name, perfectly showing their sense of humor.

heh, yeah, come to think of it most Sabbath songs could easily be made into band names: Children of the Grave, Fairies Wear Boots, War Pigs, Sweet Leaf, Digital Bitch, Computer God, Mob Rules etc.

also many of Priest's song titles are pretty cool: The Sentinel, Jawbreaker, Grinder, Sinner, Desert Plains, Devil's Child, Turbo, Painkiller, Jugulator, Cathedral Spires, Bullet Train etc.

Ufomammut is the best name for a band imo, as it is not only sounds great, but it perfectly characterizes the music. other rather good names are Glorior Belli and Porcupine Tree, but The 3rd And The Mortal is cool too.

a great lolworthy name is virgin snatch tbh. came across it recently.

That and most people know of him from Dokken anyways. I mean, most people I know who listen to Lynch Mob listen to them because they were previously into Dokken and wanted to hear more of Lynchs guitar work.

Of course first there was Dokken and then Lynch gathered his Mob that's how came to know the band.
I just remembered that in 1991 when I saw Queensrÿche perform their entire Operation Mindcrime integrally live for the first time on tour with Pamela Moore Queensryche were actually supported by Lynch Mob in Amsterdam in the Jaap Edenhal

Probably "Metallica" for me. It has the magic word in it and it's just so simple. But there are so many good names out there.

no i've read reviews of some of his albums on sites like amazon and everyone was wrongly convinced that Lynch Mob was an overtly racist band. funny how ignorance can turn people against someone haha.

i like melechesh. it just sounds cool and soooo metal. it's a cool name. i also like your shapeless beauty, i think like of a bad looking person that's beautiful, something like. weird aaand eternal tears of sorrow 'cause it sound nice, like poetics, but cool, although not as cool as melechesh

I like Strapping Young Lad. And a very nice name, I know its just only in meaning-sound like rather than the original name, I recently found is: Vaakevandring, means "To Wake Up And Wander".

My friend, almost all of post-rock bands' names are like that. Do Make Say Think or This Will Destroy You. wtf? On the other hand, Explosion In The Sky is pretty sweet.
