Okay, just yesterday, i managed to get hold of both Kalmah and Eternal Tears of Sorrow discography, so that completed all the material of the bands that i have named in the poll. All of them have a rather similar style, but none of them are copycats imo. Just the same kind of similarity that Blind Guardian and Helloween have, aKa, same genre. Now, some may wonder why EToS is present. To explain that, their latest album and the two albums before, have every right to be in the same category as the others i mentioned. Even if they aint exactly PM...which of course i aint actually all that certain about the others. I suppose that's just the border all of them are standing on. Anyways, while i have listened to CoB a whole lot, i will not vote for them in the poll. I ask of you to not compare the bands' crappy releases, but instead, remember the good times. I'll give a few sentences about each of the 4 bands.

Children of Bodom - one of the oldest bands that i've known, that i still like. Their debut album still tops all others imo, but there are plenty of other songs that i enjoy also. Main thing is that i bought Something Wild, when i had the possibility to buy any other and i haven't regretted the descision yet. However, they don't interest me as much as they used to...And i think that even if i waited a few months to vote, it wouldn't change anything.

Norther - pretty much the band that i like the least of the ones i mentioned, but that's not to the degree of DISliking them. They have great songs, like Omen, Death Unlimited, Released etc. The main thing that annoys me about them is the overly long repetitive intros on some songs. For example, the beginning of Unleash Hell was about 20 seconds long and it already got annoying, even if the melody itself was good. Now, since everyone seems to call them CoB copies, i mention that they are not copies. Their music is different enough from CoB. Some parts they play are things that CoB would never do. Since my terminology sucks however, i can't put my finger on the exact points.

Kalmah - Swamplord might very well grow to be one of my favourite CDs. The guitar on the album is simply wonderful. While i like Laiho's solos more than those ones, the regular riffing just cathes my eye. For example, the song - Hades. The beginning is far ahead from other songs that i've heard from bands that play even remotely the similar style. The main thing going for Kalmah is the riffs and aggressive vocals. They seem so much stronger than the other bands in this poll.

Eternal Tears of Sorrow - The only band from the lists whom debut album i don't enjoy very much and also the only band from here whom latest album i simply adore. They are the most melodic from the bands in this poll, but that's definately not a bad thing. In fact, that is the reason why i voted for them. Yes, now you know who i really voted for. Red Dawn Rising is quite similar to Norther's Omen in the beginning, at least those songs are connected in my mind to that one part. However, when the song kicks in, RDR keeps the good from the intro and carries it on, whereas Omen turned their way around. I haven't developed a strong knowledge of EToS yet, but from listening to the albums through once, i knew that if i stumbled on this type of thread, that's who i'd vote for...And due to boredom, i decided to make it myself.


The other option is there not as a last resort, but also an option of letting you tell me of more bands in that particular and rather new genre, that is most likely the work of CoB, because they have been around the longest (well, EToS is pretty much the same, but their oldest release doesn't fit into the category that well). I may of course be mistaken, but that's what mistakes are for: to be corrected.
So, vote away and try to give at least a few sentences commenting of the reason of voting.

P.S. and no, "Laiho rocks" doesn't count as a "few sentences"

Finnish Style Power Metal.........i thought you meant like Stratovarius or Nightwish.......Those bands are Extreme Power Metal which is a strictly Finnish genre.......

anyways my vote goes to Children Of Bodom! Their "Follow The Reaper" album is one ov my alltime favourite recordings! They were the first Power Metal related band i ever heard / listened to along with Manowar.

Ok I agrie there are power metal elements, but for me power are chhsey bands like Stratovarius, Kotipelto, Sonata Arctica(I talking about Finish PM), and those bands what you mention are diferent influencies and I think Nightwish shood be there too(thanks god people dont say Tarot are power metal )

For me its hard to choose, so I vote other

Childrens Of Bodom - Its power/speed metal whit harsh vocals and I like first 3 albums, and maybe not so much, I think band are owerated, in germany, France I can find better vands how in Finland, and CoB its more pop metal nowdays after THAT cover, so first 3 albums are ok, but i dunno if I by them, but for free yes.

Northen - Are CoB coppy ame Power/Speed metal whit harsh vocals, seems thay coppy CoB but whit cheesy more cheesy lyrics, CoB lyrcs are ok, some even poetical, but Northen lyrics man I even can write better, its so cheep, how people can listen it?

Kalmah - same Power/Speed metal but ''Grave'' band name translated from karelian and that music, attitude, lyrics are its bad ass band, and I can listeb almoust all albums, Im even ready by them, go to shows and band are ok, from that what you mention ist 2end what I like

Erhernal Tears Of Sorrow - My fav band, not my fav finish, there are planty Doom bands what i like, but from list its best, I love all albums, and lyris are so poetic, so deep, I enjoy read them realy great great lyrics, and I can imagine why, all life in darkness and no sun, how people can live so far to north? I probonly kill my self, so nature inspirate them.

Bride Adorned - I hear samples of them album and I enjoy it, try them.
Battlelore - You forgot them thay are great and better band how firts tow in list and play simmilar, even use femaile voices in muisc and lyrics, so great and 2 videos, how I love them
Warmen - Thay shood be here too but stillsimmilar how first tow band sin list, but thay etliest play instrumentals!
Sinergy - same not my style and not my music, but thay are popular and know band.
Teräsbetoni - I know thay sings in finish, but one good freind in MS entudice me whit them, thank's Ernator
Thunderstone - Etleits one of bad ass bands hahaha

Most definately , Yes. Children Of Bodom are the pioneers ov Extreme Power Metal. Think about it, Norther copied them and Kalmah sort ov did too.

EDIT2: okay, just to point out, the "different" Finnish style what i was talking about, is the one with harsh vocals. Even if the bands that use clean ones, like Brides Adorne (listened to the samples, and got pretty excited) and are good, they don't belong here. This thread isn't for Finnish PM in general...creating a list of that would be impossible for me

Kalmah lays the rest of these bands to waste. No question. Norther is good and Bodom has Follow The Reaper, but Kalmah is the most consistent and most powerful of these.

kalmah is the best band that represent finnish metal very well, i hate COB.

My vote goes to Children of Bodom on this poll of Finsih Extreme Power Metal. Firstly they have my favorite album of this specific genre Follow the Reaper. Also on their earlier albums I love neoclassical influence. Also I'm going to vote for Bodom because as far as I know they pretty much started this whole genre.

And i thanked you for that! Just that this thread is rather specific to the "extreme" power metal or power metal "with harsh vocals" however you may put it. And since it's probably from Finland, i named it "different Finnish PM". But maybe i'm misunderstanding and you aren't even "arguing" to me...hmm, a good night sleep might fix the slight confusion that i have. So umm...good night!

DAMN...okay, now i really have no objections...but i won't redo the thread, a few longer posts already in here...just gotta go with "other"

Oh shit I forgot all about Wintersun. They definently take this one hands down. They took the idea of extreme power metal and took it to the limit. The debut album from them was absolutely amazing not a single bad song on it and every riff was amazing and memorable. There were also some amazing leads on this album aswell as a great atmosphere created. Jari Mäenpää is such a talented guy to have played everythign on that album except for the drums. I'm very curious to hear how the new album will turn out though now that it's not just him. Their new album is one of the albums I am looking forward to most in the future.

Wintersun are the best ones in that styles, forget Kalmah and COB, witersun rules!

I wouldn't have, but they should have still been on the poll. Their style is just like the others'.
They do have some fine moments, but i would say that of the bands in the poll, they are either on par with Norther or lose to even them (Norther is the band i least like from the list). That's of course my opinion, they seem to have lots of potential.

I voted other...for Wintersun. I enjoy COB, mainly their older albums. Norther is decent. Kalmah and Eternal Tears are both very good bands. However when it comes to extreme power...nothing beats Wintersun (in my opinion). Jari Maenpaa is just an amazing musician. Every song on their self-titled album is a work of art. I have listened to that album so many times, I cant really say how many. One of my favourite albums of all time.

Hey, i'm a doom metal fan That doesn't show anything. Sure they are fairly different from the other bands and it is rather often categorized as "melodic death", but i still thought that they can very well suit for this thread, since i found similarities between them and the others. Plus i voted for them

Me too and thay are diferent band how other power metal, moustly people know only Sonata Arctica but other more better are underground, and I love DOOM and I agrie in thay sound are simmilarities how power metal, but lyrivs are deoom, its not cheep liie hunding low and down, or dunno thay lyrics are dark/poetical simmilar how DOOM

I think that this genre is gonna be dead in the next decade because all ov the ones who started it are already starting to Thrash Up / Commercialize their sound!

Here i have to agree. I feel no thrash influences in the other bands. Only CoB. I don't think they'll come back either, but Norther f.e. seems to be keeping the "extreme" power metal track nicely. Sure, it might just be a fad, but well...currently it's happening and i don't want to think a decade ahead in this case. Just enjoy it while it lasts...i hope it does.
