Pretty good avant-garde...loving the "gremlin" kind of vocals that intersperse.

Fucking brilliant... and to think I always new about them but never checked them out due to laziness or something. Oh well, better late than never.

I'm glad you broke your Ved virginity Now you can listen to the album and gasp at just how much Deathspell Omega took from their sound.

Aye, my hymen got blown away due to the sheer brilliance. I didn't expect the music to be so blasting at some points. I guess I had a different idea in mind witht he whole avantgarde tag. But yeah, great shit.

Yeah this song is a bit more black metal than most of the other tracks, they usually have slower sections dispersed with black metal. It's all good though.

I just did too, and I was like O_o ... I heard DsO, Code and even a bit of Akercocke, but mostly Code.

Well, as far as I know, Code had a Ved Buens Ende member at some point in the band. I forget who, but there's definitely a link somewhere there. But yeah, musically speaking Code and Virus are the first bands I go to, but I agree in that Akercocke have definitely derived influence from this outfit at points in their career. Actually, I heard Virus before Code, and my first thought about them was that Akercocke's frontman had lent his vocal talent to Virus. So very similar in the clean vocal department. I'd actually completely forgoten about that until you mentioned Akercocke here.

Yup yup, Virus indeed.
When you really think about it, every aspect of this album is massively influential. The clean vocals, and I don't mean the idea of the cleans in Black metal but the way they are sung. The weird chords, the unorthodox progression in the songs and the unusual song structures.

How on the earth this was released in 1995 ? :| seriously, this is one of the most forward thinking albums I've ever heard and it definitely had been much ahead of its time when it was published. In this regard, this album is much like obscura I think. I am really loving those clean vocals. Any band having similar clean vocals, except those ones which share members with Ved Buens Ende?

It seems that the guy behind Yurei had been a member of virus in the past and Yurei belongs to a circle of similar bands with distinct avantgarde approach on Adversum Records. Stagnant waters is also on that label and its members have close relationship with mastermind of Yurei

Holy shit, this album is awesome. Avantgarde black metal at its best I'd say after a first impression.

Make sure to check out the mid ear Deathspell Omega, then (if you have not already), which has taken a lot of influences from this band and album.

I once checked out an album by them and didn't like it so much. Can remember at all which one it was though, as it's a while ago. Which one would I enjoy the most?

The Kenose EP. If you don't like that then just go die somewhere.

I'm not the best one to answer this question since I have not heard many of their records. Some of my favorites are these, though:
Some abstract black metal:
Probably their best representative (might be a little long, though):
One of the best EPs ever, and my favorite DsO record:
Damn this is so fucking intense.
Also, I imagine you will love their old records if you are a fan of rawer form of BM.

As I said, they have many albums/Eps that I haven't heard. Of course I love their sound and as I said, that kenos EP definitely is one of the best things ever.
