Think hard of the bands you like that have released six or more studio albums. Which of those bands can you say that you thoroughly enjoy every album. I love Black Sabbath but I don't really rate any of the albums after the Gillan one, and I think Never Say Die is great. The big 4 of thrash have all had some albums that many would agree were terrible compared to their best, maybe I could argue that Slayer havent. Of course bands cant make every album the same and their artistic expression changes so that we may no longer revere their work, but everyone has those bands that they beleive have never created anything but excellence. I propose Judas Priest and Sodom. Who do you propose, remembering a minimum of 6 studio albmus for the band to be eligible.

None, I often listen to one or two albums by band and then move to another band. But I think I'll listen to 6 albums by a band soon enough. I'm still somehow new to metal.

Now that I think about it, the only bands that I really enjoy every single album of are bands that don't have more than 4 albums. Agalloch would be an example. Even some of my favorite bands like Blind Guardian and Kamelot sounded not too good in their beginning. Deliverance and Damnation are what kills it for me with Opeth, but then again I'm not the hugest Opeth fan anyway. So no, I can't think of any band that meets your requirements.

I can think of two bands... Meshuggah ! The first album suffers from poor production maybe but it's still a good album. After that it's all genius to my ears. Opeth ! They have 9 albums of which none are bad (soon 10). I like some albums more than others of course but they consistently produce excellent albums. What about The Haunted? I don't have all their albums (I have 5) and they are all good to excellent. I can't imagine the albums I don't own are bad. Anyone knows a bad album from this band? Also, maybe Amon Amarth : I'm not a specialist of their music but I don't think they ever released a "bad" album.

Amorphis makes the cut with Tales, Elegy + all Tomi Joutsen era albums. I enjoy most of their discography, but the rest isn't as solid. If you mean a band with no weaker moments yet there's no such Insomnium might approach it though.

29.08.2011 - 22:52 Written by edgethrasherx on 29.08.2011 at 22:42 ... says the guy who just listed "Peace Sells" as one of the top albums of the 1990s. i'll toss Enslaved on the list - more than 10 albums over nearly 20 years, constantly pushing/evolving forward, feeling more and more comfortable in experimenting or drawing their outside-metal influences in. find me another band who release an album nearly 20 years (and 11) in that could be considered their best work. (by MS scoring, AEO is their best) (and for those listing bands, rather than providing us with an explanation, i hope you are taking notes...)

Anathema are a pretty safe choice for me. Excluding some strange compilation shit (never got those Resonance albums), they've gone from good to better. They've evolved from decent death doom to defining their own style of heavy and melancholic metal, to experimental rock. Every album is different, every one brings something new to the table, and they've yet to screw up. A Natural Disaster was their most experimental and also their heaviest album to date (in atmosphere, if not in volume), whereas the latest WHBWH shows a hopeful band soaring up into love and light, or whatever cheesy metaphor you want to use. And they're still recognizable as the band on The Silent Enigma. I agree with BitterCOld on Enslaved, most definetely. I could also subscribe to Death and Opeth, but I'm not an expert on the former and really not that interested in the latter anymore. I think there's two Death albums I haven't heard, and I only know the last two well. Opeth haven't really failed, but they're on a steady meandering course of stagnation, IMO.

30.08.2011 - 01:14 Written by Powerslavex on 29.08.2011 at 23:24 You both misunderstood. The idea was to talk about bands who have not released a single bad album, ever. And to limit the flood of bands with one great debut, we're only talking about bands who have released 6 or more albums. Not bands who've released a lot of albums and 6 of them good.

Definitely Death: pretty much a flawless discography with a natural progression. I don't love the transitional records as much (Human and Individual Thought Patterns), but they require respect and are still rather enjoyable. I like every Septicflesh album with quite a passion, another band not afraid to progress and impress. Those (rightfully) worshipping The Great Mass should take the time to look into Mystic Places of Dawn and The Ophidian Wheel, two majestic releases if you can get past production issues. Unfortunately you put the minimum at six, but I think the band currently with greatest, most consistent discography of all time is Coroner with their five pristine records. Even when they got slow and experimental they crafted art. Of the current bands with a great chance of ascending to this destiny are Agalloch and Anubis Gate, not so coincidentally my two favorite bands playing music today. I've adored and cherished every album so far released by each of them, and I'd go as far as to GUARUNTEE they will do it.

Edenbridge for me. Been going strong with every album. The MS ratings do not reflect how i feel about them, but the lowest score is still only 7.6. I think they have done well for 7 studio albums.

30.08.2011 - 03:33 Written by edgethrasherx on 29.08.2011 at 22:42 This is what makes listening to music so personal. Lets assume he really does like all of Metallica's and Iron Maiden's albums I am sure most people would say that both of these bands have produced some real garbage to the point where you couldn't say that these bands are among your favourites anymore. By the way a big thumbs up to the guy who said Bolt Thrower, I had never heard any of their stuff and upon recent listening I found that I really enjoy their music and so far have to say that its all been great listening!
