Hey metalheads! who do you think will be the next huge metalbands? i think bands like lamb of god, mastodon, machinehead and opeth will take the spots. i also think for bands like protest the hero, august burns red and rise to remain will make it big. so what do you think??

I think you're a little too late on your selections. Many of those bands have already made it big. Try for more recent bands.

Ya you aren't really predicting anything with those suggestions. If you were to suggest bands like Derelict Earth or X-Panda at least then you're naming bands that aren't really prominent in the scene.

17.12.2011 - 02:10 Written by Troy Killjoy on 16.12.2011 at 06:09 Ok....how about.....Sabaton And by new BIG names do you mean bands that will be the new arena bands of metal? Because I don't think there is any new band that will reach that in their prime....maybe when they get their "Classic" lable (+20 years in the buisness).

17.12.2011 - 02:13 Written by arwestromen on 17.12.2011 at 02:10 That's what this thread's about, which bands you think will make it to that 20+ year mark and take the world by storm along the way. Aside from bands that are potentially on their way to doing it already...

I think what the OP means is the next "ground breaking/genre defining band" ie the next Metallica.

Interesting topic. There are lots of genres that have their own big names and sometimes it's fun to watch a band rise to the top. For power metal, I feel that if Kamelot can survive their vocalist change (or if Roy came back) then they're very near to taking the crown. I know they're already big, but this thread is about more than just big, right? I've watched them rise from just another interesting band to being as big as they are/were but it don't feel it has to stop there. They have so much more music to give; if logistics will allow them to, I believe they will become one of the definitive bands on the timeline.

Abysmal dawn, Decapitated. I see those two probably getting pretty big in the death metal scene. Decapitated already is, but i think a lot of people will start to listen to and enjoy abysmal dawn.

In my opinion bands with a lot of potential are: -3 Inches of Blood (though they've been stagnating for a bit) -Machine Head (one more album like the Blackening and they'll surely be in the world elite) -Volbeat (just keep going on that upward spiral, maybe another US tour or something and they'll surely go global)

High On Fire might break out. Might. I wouldn't consider it terribly likely, but still their last album saw them touring with Mastadon and the cartoon metal band, which exposed them to a new audience, as doing Gigantour with Megadave prior did as well. still not as accessible as a metal band would have to be to reach wider (metal) audiences, but they have chops and several quality albums under their belts. now they are too big to play the dive i saw them at a couple years ago so that's a start. younger bands? don't listen to enough "accessible" metal to really follow.

Evile, Machine Head, The Sword, Gama Bomb and Moonspell (has a lot of history but only now they are being scene as something serious). Bands nowadays are more technically gifted than the old bands, the new bands gain much more faster the experience and maturity factors than before. Thanks to bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Overkill, Exodus and many more the new bands are definitely more prepared to make great and epic albums.

I hope for Graveyrad from Sweden and Black Water Rising from USA, both bands play a Roots Rock style of Metal. Also the Arab bands Myrath, Arkan, Scarab, Bilocate... and the Israeli Gevolt with their Yiddish Metal. Ethno music oriented metal should be more popular.

Only Machine Head springs to mind. Unto the Locust is a terrific album! Few more albums like that and they'll get big as fuck.

03.01.2012 - 02:47 Written by [user id=34558] on 31.12.2011 at 01:48 Yes, and yes! We do seem to be seeing more and more "folk" metal that is way beyond Vikings and Celtic stuff. There is great folk, traditional, and classical music from ALL over the world that blends with metal quite nicely. I'm digging Myrath and Arkan this year, and love checking out good Arab bands. Arab and Persian classical music especially "metallizes" SO well
