Posting your own list is something completely different than voting in the awards, though.

I'm editing my top list in the Lists section soon, 50 first albums in order of preference or something, but I guess this is different enough to warrant another post. Will edit this space, I guess.

Because making lists is fun, and this is a nice break from trying to decide where to stop ordering my top 2011 albums by preference; I thought top 50 would do, but I'm down to 100 now and still not sure. >_>

Black Metal:
Blut Aus Nord - 777 - The Desanctification

Death Metal:
Sonne Adam - Transformation

Doom Metal:
40 Watt Sun - The Inside Room

Extreme Doom Metal:
Corrupted - Garten der Unbewusstheit (I guess it fits)

Gothic Metal:
Wormfood - Posthume

Grindcore:
A Million Dead Birds Laughing - Force Fed Enlightenment

Hardcore / Metalcore / Deathcore:
Helms Alee - Weatherhead/Will Haven - Voir Dire/Betraying The Martyrs - Breathe In Life (Three picks for three genres, I guess. All of them OK, none of them much better than the others.)

Heavy Metal:
Argus - Boldly Stride The Doomed

Industrial Metal:
Necro Deathmort - Music Of Bleak Origin

Post-Metal/Avant-Garde:
Earth - Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light pt. 1

Progressive Metal:
Giant Squid - Cenotes

Sludge/Stoner Metal:
Subrosa - No Help For The Mighty Ones

And then some bonus levels to compensate for those metal categories I skipped:

Contemporary Classical/Modern Composition:
A Winged Victory For The Sullen - A Winged Victory For The Sullen

Ambient:
The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble - From The Stairwell

Post-Rock:
Einar Stray - Chiaroscuro

Neofolk:
Rome - Die Æsthetik der Herrschaftsfreiheit

Album Of The Year:
PJ Harvey - Let England Shake

The awards will be back as always, in FEBRUARY.

i am retitling this thread to avoid confusion... it will henceforth be known as "Favorite Albums of 2011 by Genre".

so let it be typed, so let it be done.

finally, let's not criticize anyone who omits a genre. i'd rather have people just skip what they are unfamiliar with rather than cast a vote on the one band out of 10 they've heard before.
