So is there anyone out there who has either never been to a concert before and has no interest in ever attending one? Or someone who hasn't been to a concert in years and has no intention of seeing another one (or will see one once every blue moon)?

And what's your reasoning? Don't be shy people...if you have an overactive bowel movement caused by excessive excitement...it's ok...we won't judge you (much).

I haven't been to a concert in about 4 years. Now I'm talking about a proper concert. I have seen my friend's band perform a few times in the past 2-3 years (I saw them few days ago actually) but they were mainly competitions but that really doesn't count to me. The last band I remember seeing was Symphony X in 2008 I think. I was supposed to see them again last year I think with my sister...Nevermore was going to perform too but then they pulled out of the show and Loomis left. My sister lost interest in going (even though I already bought the tickets) which made me lose interest. I didn't care enough to just go by myself.

Fast forward to 2012 and I'm not really interested in going to a concert ever again. Not saying that I never will but I have no desire to see any of my favourite bands play live even if I know they are coming to my hometown (not that I ever pay attention to when they are coming anymore). Edit: I can't really explain why either. I know part of it is that I just don't like to go alone. Maybe if a lot of my friends liked the same music I did things would be different. But I also don't mind doing things on my own as much anymore (thanks to my job I suppose) but still I just don't have that desire to go to a concert despite how awesome it might be.

So is there anyone else out there like me? No real interest in live shows anymore...or simply never been interested?

That used to be me... I guess I never saw the point in going since I was a shy sheltered child who was scared to leave the house and happy just listening to studio albums. And yea, I also had the problem of not having friends/family into metal, and not wanting to go alone or not being allowed to go.

Now that I'm older and a lot more adventurous, I'm starting to become a regular concert goer. I like going out and having fun instead of staying home by myself all the time. I've gotten much more social and outgoing, and I have more friends who are into metal. I still end up going alone sometimes, and I still enjoy it. I just mingle and look for new friends lol Lots of people alone at shows are too shy to approach anyone but will be more than happy to talk with you if you make the first move I will admit that I sometimes feel like concerts are more for the purpose of going out and socializing than to hear music though, kind of like going to the mall to hang out with people rather than because you actually need to shop for something.

Oh don't get me wrong...I go out a lot with friends. I live a social life in that sense. I just never go to concerts anymore. In the past, when I used to go alone, I used to take public transportation because I never drove. It would usually take me a while to get to a concert and than to come back home. I drive now and have my own car, so it's a lot easier. I also work and I never really work late so time wise I can easily go to many concerts. I just can't bring myself to go...and for me I guess it really is going alone that i just don't like and not because I don't like doing things on my own, but I just think I would have a better time going with a friend or a group. If I go alone and drive...I really can't drink much lol. I guess I just enjoy hanging out with friends and being surrounded by people I know more than ever. Again though, that's not saying I don't like doing things on my own or going out and meeting new people (I think I should be doing more of that!)

But you are right...it is a way of making friends and maybe sometimes feels like its more about the social experience than the music...but again its like you said...a lot of people go to the mall just to hang out, not really because they need anything. That's mainly why I go to the mall these days. I go with friends when they need something or even just to walk around and see what catches our eye.

Anyone else? For other reasons?

Never been since I have problems with crowds. It's not like a legitimate agoraphobic fear type thing or whatever, but large crowds (more than 10 people) just make me anxious. I've always wanted to go to one but I'd have to go with someone I know, and someone experienced, so that I don't feel isolated or uncomfortable.

Strange. So you mean you never sit in an exam hall with hundreds of other students sweating on their pens out for getting some real good marks? You never went to Pub alone?

never went to Funeral alone? Really?

are you mocking the shit up?

I wrote my exams in private rooms. Teachers understood "my condition" or whatever. Other students who had trouble with crowd pressures were given their own rooms as well.

I've never been to a pub at all, let along going by myself. And I've only been to one small wake with my family, but not a funeral.

Not making anything up here either. But this is all pretty off-topic.

That's me right now :/ I get too anxious while driving so I don't have a license. It's a bit of an inconvenience going from Oakville to Toronto and back even though I do that all the time for school and it could be so much worse. I find myself anxiously checking the time near the end of the show to make sure I can catch the last bus home, not that I've never spent a good few hours in a place open 24 hours awaiting the first train home I'd be going to way more concerts if I lived closer to downtown Toronto...

I had a bit of that feeling before going to my first concert, always wanting to go but needing someone to come with me and never being able to find anyone... Whenever the crowd gets to be too much, I just stand farther back where it's much less dense. Usually I'm too busy headbanging and enjoying the music to be bothered by the crowd, and going to raves has got me used to befriending random people lol

Ah that sucks, so no group orgies for you

I like going to concerts in general, its usually just a place where friends meet and have a few drinks and have some fun. Even if its a band I'm not too interested in I would still go if the tickets weren't overly expensive.
I tend to go to shows quite often. I prefer being onstage though, its way more fun

This reminds me of how my sis followed me the entire Roadburn festival. It was for completely different reasons though as she didn't really know any bands so going around alone was the same as following me (plus sometimes she got lost )

I used to go to shows every week or so. Now, I don't go anymore. It's just a change in lifestyles. Before I use to get loaded and mosh during the whole show, now I just want to apprweciate the music and musicmanship of the band playing, but I always ended with beer spilled on me, swetty headbangers hair in my face, overpriced beer....+ the fact that I now live during the day instead of the night. The next show I'll go to will probably be a summer festival with my daughter.

I went to a total of five, maybe six concerts in my whole life (I don't count "weekend gigs" in the local clubs). Basically, I saw Iron Maiden, and I'm happy if I don't see another band live untill the rest of my life
Plus, I like to listen to the music; I don't drink and I don't mosh. It's not comfortable for me when I go to the Vader gig and some kid half of my size/age tries to punch me repetedly.

Truth to be told, I do live in relatively secluded/poor country (Serbia), and not many bands come here to begin with, so you usually have to travel to Hungary, Austria etc. Metallica is playing today, and the ticket cost is about 10% of my family's income and 60% of my monthly student scholarship. On the other hand, the nearby city of Zagreb (Croatia) recently started having awesome indie/obscure/UG bands as guests (Fleet Foxes, Rosetta), so I think I'll visit them once in the future.

In that case I wouldn't say I attended one a week. I generally go for good local bands no matter what genre. We don't have many metal gigs here.

Yeah Oakville to Toronto without a car is not easy I'm sure! and you do that for school! Wow! Hats off to you lol. I used to have long trips to school and work (sometimes 2 hours or more) and I don't see myself ever doing that again (I hope I don't).

I live in Mississauga and few years ago I went to a concert in Toronto and had to leave early in order to catch the bus and train to get back home lol...it sucked because it was a great show (Moonsorrow) lol. That's the great thing about having a car, because I can drive anywhere and at anytime of the day in any conditions because I love driving...yet somehow despite that I still can't bring myself to go see more shows.

Interestingly enough, I always felt more comfortable on stage when I was playing drums in a band. I don't do that anymore though.

I don't go to many shows anymore, but that's mostly because no one ever wants to go with me and I don't have the motivation to go alone. The few people I know who used to be big metalheads all listen to dance and rap shit now...oh sorry, "underground hiphop", how DARE you compare it to mainstream rap, blah blah, all sounds the same to me. I don't know how one can go from listening to NSBM to some monkey bumbling about drinking Cristal in da club. That, and not many good bands (or not many bands at all to be honest) seem to come here.

I don't go to concerts for three reasons:
1. I live in Kansas, which means all the concerts I want to go to are nowhere near me.
2. I can't afford to go to any concerts.
3. Even if I could afford it, I don't even know how to drive.

Definetly with you guys, in the sense that Overkill is just one of those bands that I couldn't not have a good time because of anxiety and whatnot. No drugs, no sex, just rock n roll is fine for me. Plus an extra clonazapam should help me out if I can get to The FIllmore this week.

For me it depends on who is coming to my city. This year I've only been to one concert, but it's because the only bands playing here are ones I'm not interested in (lots of deathcore seems to come by, I hate deathcore). Anyway my general rule is if there is a concert with at least one band I'm interested in seeing I will go, and I will stick around and see all of the bands to give them a chance.

I also have a certain thing against being in crowds of people. I'd rather avoid it if I can.

That's me if you replace "move my head a little bit" with "headbang a lot"
Even if I weighed more than 110 pounds, I probably would still hate moshing just because I don't like having that much physical contact with all those random sweaty strangers. I don't drink at shows either since I want to be sober to remember the show as well as possible after it's done, and in case I have to defend myself from moshers or anyone else who bothers me. Only ever been to two shows, which have came accross in the past 8 months or so. I think it was just being on only person in my friendship circle - or possibly my whole college - who where into Metal (Discounting people who listen to Slipknot, A7Z yada yada) that stopped me for a while going to gigs. But now a lot of awesome bands where touring really close (WITTR, Suffocation) so I just had to see them.

Wow anyways after my exams gonna relax by going to see Aborted .
