So I'll probably be attending my first ever metal concert in a few months and am really excited but also kind of nervous about it. The only other concerts I've been to were for Asian rock artists, very tame, one in a small theater and another in a stadium with a capacity for 16000, both with assigned seating and pretty strict rules. I'm still quite a newbie to metal as you can tell and don't fully know what to expect. It'll be Kamelot so probably not as extreme as a heavier band's gig might get, but still, I'm a little teenage 5'1" Asian girl and all... What can you guys tell me about things I should know for the concert? For fellow female metallers, what have your experiences in concerts have been like? Any precautions I should take? Watching live videos really don't tell me much, heh...

Kamelot is a great band to see live, even without Khan, the band and singer do a great job. You will not regret it. I've only been to one Kamelot show, so I'm not sure if it goes on, but I saw no moshing of any sort. No physical contact was needed unless it was jam-packed with bodies and you had no where to move. Just sit back, relax, and if you are old enough, headbang with a Long Island Iced Tea in your hand and a beer in the other. and you will have a great time. Or at least, that's what I did. Every metal concert I've attended had a very small female contingent, but the one thing you should take away is this: The less females, the hotter they look. (And remember guys will be drinking, so you will look even hotter)

Hahaha If it's a symphonic, power, prog, doom, or black metal band, there's going to be a lot less moshing and crowdsurfing than in, say, thrash, hardcore punk, metalcore, death, grind, deathcore, alt metal, etc. It does happen, especially when you have audience members from the fanbases of the latter styles, but whether and to what extent it's allowed depends on the band and/or event. I'm pretty sure Manowar stops the music if they see any moshing, and I've seen a YouTube video of a kid who crowdsurfed onto the stage at a Watain (black metal) concert get beaten up by the vocalist and guitarists. But I've also seen videos of a Dragonforce show where a moshpit started and the vocalist was like, "Well look at that" with a smile, and a lot of Candlemass videos with guys crowdsurfing up to the front and getting escorted to the side by security to go back to his place. If you're in seats then you shouldn't have to worry, unless there's someone headbanging with exceptionally long hair directly behind or in front of you

Depends on the scene really... Where I live, people have at least some moshing going for even the slower and more melodic sounds. When I talk to my friends from around the world, they usually say it was no one near as rough when the same band played in their town. If you're worried about the crowd, just stand back a little bit. The pit always forms near the front and the concentration of douchebags in highest near the pit and second highest near the bar. And of course, it's always better to go with friends. Both because it's more fun and you're way less likely to be approached by creepy guys. Kamelot should be fun and safe though. When I saw them here, there were a lot of girls in the audience and the crowd wasn't too scary

03.04.2013 - 15:41 Written by slinx on 02.04.2013 at 10:11 Lol, I don't really think she wants that. I guess you can try and find someone to go with if you're planning on going alone ? You can just go watch the show from a safe distance, not sure if Kamelot would have pits, so next to the sound console(probably best sound) would be a good choice if it is in the center of the venue. I'm not sure about the US, but metalheads don't really come out with the intention of hurting people, so you should be safe

If this is your first metal concert, you might want to bring earplugs. After my first concert I was plagued with a buzz for the next week or so. The Kamelot gigs I went to had practically no moshing going on but that really depends on the audience. If you're scared of getting caught in a mosh, stand next to or in front of the PA, no one moshes there.

According to me, no special stuff or precaution to take at metal shows. Just earplugs, water, a camera, money to buy bands' t-shirts and beer (sodas), some cds booklets if you have the chance to meet musicians to ask them to make a little signing-session and, if you wear glasses, you should get them away and wear contact lenses...

10.04.2013 - 01:25 Written by Rasputin on 09.04.2013 at 01:05 Well... when they played here last year, the band stopped playing in the middle of a song because apparently several fanboy kids that were close to the stage were being crushed by other people jumping and stuff . "You guys are fucking animals" Bennington said and asked us to take care of anyone fainting. On topic, you'll be just fine if you stay out of the movement. There's always people that don't want to get hurt just like you.

1) Don't wear any fancy clothing or jewelery you would miss. I know, some girls come decked out in corsets and bracelets up to their elbows, but they also either stand way back or have money to replace anything that gets lost. Also you will need to be comfortable. And you'll be drenched in sweat afterwards so try not to wear any sort of long sleeve as a shirt. I usually go for the combo of a t-shirt and a warm hoodie that I take off and either leave in the wardrobe (for a local gig) or put it in my bag. 2) Get a sturdy bag to put your extra clothes (you might need an extra layer if it's cold outside when the concert ends), keys, money, cellphone, food on the way to the venue and whatever else you think you need in there. The only thing they'll take away at the entrance is food, drinks and professional cameras. Oh and weapons but you won't be needing those. 3) Mosh pits are center-front so try to avoid that area, possibly by moving front-side? But do ask people who attend gigs in your area to tell you what's the metal concert culture there like, a safe guess would be that, if there are no mosh pits for the first three or four songs, there won't be many, if any, during the rest of the gig. If you think you can handle being pushed against the fence a few times, since it tends to happen more than not, no matter in what part of the world you live in since everyone tends to rush to the stage when the band comes out, definitely try for the front row, because people tend to let shorter girls out in the front and even shield them a bit, I have a friend who's about your height who's scored about 30 safe front row seats so far If being up front doesn't matter to you all that much, even better, you can enjoy the show from afar. I usually go around a bit if there's any space in between people to see where I feel most comfortable with in regards to the music and my experience of it. 4) If there's some douche bag harassing you, approach the biggest, meanest looking guy out there, tap his shoulder and complain... works every time. 5) If you are bringing stuff for the band to sign (if you hope to catch them somewhere round the venue), bring something unbreakable - don't take the whole CD case, just take the booklet because it would suck if something happened to your CD obviously. This is my humble concert experience brought to you from the wild metal crowds of Serbia. And yeah I've been wearing glasses since 2011, but I take them off when I headbang and put them back on when I'm done... looks silly but I am blind without them. Nothing's ever happened to them though, you just gotta be somewhat alert and you'll keep them intact, not like my friend who put them in his pocket and went moshing, forgetting about them. Then again, if you have the option to wear contacts instead, that's generally better.

^this what Milena said or just get some spikes - the longer the more space around you On other note : "4) If there's some douche bag harassing you, approach the biggest, meanest looking guy out there, tap his shoulder and complain... works every time." What is that kind of wankery ? That is the pure case of vaginal manipulation My advice is to just kick/punch the asshole who harass you ....or push him in mosh pit/wall of death ...
