@Marcel: You're right, that one should have been the second Krux, will edit it right away. Really don't know how it got there. 10x @rebelos: what do you want cause I sure do not understand, maybe they should be in your top, not mine. About the Iced Earth I didn't find it that good, I prefer the audio version as the visual on the DVD quite suck. So remembering when the CDs were released, it doesn't have to be in the top.

thats an absurdly long list. i'm inclined to think that you're just listing everything that was "ok" which is rather pointless. Surely a mediocre album isn't worth a mention. Best releases of 2006 (final end of year answer): Axis of Advance - Purify ministry - Rio Grande Blood Converge - No Heroes (even if it is just Jane Doe II) Akitsa - La Grande Infamie Domini Inferi (Can) / Warhate Split also worthy of a mention: clandestine blaze - church of atrocity ash pool - genital tomb vassafor - southern vassaforian hell 7" march into the sea - purge Ares Kingdom - Return to dust Probably good but i haven't heard yet: the two new vomit orchestra releases tool - 10000 days Suffocation

@Tommy Tee: It might be a long list, but the top started at the beginning of the year! It's not albums that are OK, it's made of albums & stuff i liked. Probably should have put up there some demos & concerts I've seen, books maybe. @Hellish Star: Probably I should do my top album also: Crescent Shield - "The Last of My Kind" which I found to be one of the best albums in years!

Every time I do one of these damn things, I end up forgetting something, but since I've done like 345435 of these, hopefully I'll get it right this time. Death Metal Suffocation- S/T I always have this album stuck in my head. Frank Mullen and Mike Smith especially shine on this release, and Terance still brings some great riffs. It sounds a lot like Breeding the Spawn to me, but recorded better. Benighted- Identisick This is the best band that no one has heard about. They're fast as hell, while being technical at the same time. Deicide- The Stench of Redemption Glen said that this would be one of their best albums, and he was right. The solos are nice and the vocals are fucking monstrous. Krisiun- AssassiNation After a couple of disappointing releases, Krisiun came back with one of the best albums they've made. It's still fast, but their songwriting capabilities are noticeably better. Cannibal Corpse- Kill I honestly wasn't expecting this cd to be as good as it turned out to be. Their previous few albums sucked I thought, but this album is a great return to greatness. Black Metal or Just Close Enough Goatwhore- A Haunting Curse I love the subtle changes in the songs. Bloodthorn- Genocide I wasn't expecting this album to be on my list, but it turned out to be really good. It's very fast and the recording is good, especially for a black metal band. Ajattara- Apare I guess these guys are considered Dark Metal, but whatever. The vocalist owns. Satyricon- Now, Diabolical I didn't like it at first, but it rapidly grew on me. The riffs stand out to me. Carpathian Forest- Fuck You All While this title seems a little trite, I still like it. Black n' roll is fucking cool and I need to hear more of it. Anaal Nathrakh- Eschaton Yeah, this is number 6, but I didn't want to leave them out. This isn't their best, but they are still relentlessly fast and there are some surprises on this disc. Grind Napalm Death-Smear Campaign These guys had already made a nice comeback with their previous album, but this one just proves they are still one of the better grind bands around. Whorecore- Protection This is another great band that no one seems to know about. They're kinda deathgrind-ish and they come from Israel. Sven from Aborted has recently joined the band and has made them even more brutal. Last Days of Humanity- Putrefaction in Progress Even though I'm a little disappointed with this album, it's still offers a load of brutality and is the perfect album to listen to when your angry or putting a sweater on your poodle. There is very little variation, but as long as it delivers a nice kick to your nuts, I usually seem to like it. Emeth- Reticulated I like the different vocal styles and the amount of variation. Oh, and the cover art is really cool. Fuck the Facts- Stigmata High Five I can't seem to think of a really good 5th grind release right now, so I'll just add these guys. They're more deathgrind, but whatever. Thrash Slayer- Christ Illusion This wasn't the best year for thrash, but at least Slayer put out something new. This might be my least favorite album from them, but I still like it. They've somehow maintained their aggression over the years and continue to make good music. Sodom This is yet another great comeback for a metal band. There are some songs that really aren't good on this cd, but overall I think it's their best album they've released in a while. Sadus- Out For Blood Great bass, but some songs are annoying, especially some of the lyrics. Destruction This is alright...I've never been a huge fan but this cd isn't bad. The song with 21352 guest vocalists is kinda annoying though. Tankard- The Beauty and the Beer These dudes have been around forever, and yet they still continuously sing about beer lol. Disappointments Black Label Society- Shot to Hell omg his vocals are so annoying now. I used to like them, but they have this annoying sound to them. The music doesn't really appeal to me either. This is the only BLS album that I really don't like...I'm hoping it will grow on me. Arsis- United in Regret This is by no means a bad album...it's actually pretty good, but when compared to their last album, this is nothing. The vocals have changed to more of a sound that a black metal vocalist would use and the music doesn't seem to be as creative anymore. Most of the tracks sound similar and it seems like they tried to be more technical than just creating good songs. *Edited

I really liked the year 2006 in music although much of that has got not nothing to do with metal. For example probably the best release in my ears was "Ys" by Joanna Newsom - psychedelic, epic (in a good way), fascinating lyrically; and of course it has almost the best vocals ever. Anyway: Death metal (I didn't attend to this genre that much this year): Deicide - The Stench of Redemption 324 - Rebelgrind (Southern Wind mentioned it once in a topic and I was wise enough to download it) Vader - Impressions in Blood ("Predator" was one of my favourite songs from last year) Black metal (same as previous): Enslaved - Ruun (this band is just incredible) Wolves in the Throne Room - Diadem of 12 Stars Manatark - Crimson Hours And finally so-called "avant-garde" (in no particular order): Tool - 10000 Days (I partially understand the negative reviews but still love it to death) Om - Conference of Birds Head Control System - Murder Nature Isis - In the Abscence of Truth Yakuza - Samsara Oh, and I must also mention "Brother, sister" by mewithoutYou which was probably the greatest surprise of 2006 because before discovering them I thought that good christian rock was a logical impossibility.

Top 5 in general for me this year- 1. Shade Empire - Intoxicate O.S. (Dark/Melodic Black Metal)- This album fucking owned my world for about a month straight. My favorite release of 2006. 2. Martyr - Feeding The Abscess (Technical Death Metal) Quickly becoming one of my favorite bands, and this album is a big reason why. 3. Ajattara - Apare (Black/Dark Metal) Nothing really new from them, but that's a good thing. They kept their nice dark sound. 4. Deicide - The Stench of Redemption (Death Metal) My favorite DM album of the year, great stuff from a band who never stood out to me. 5. Kalmah - The Black Waltz (Extreme Power Metal) Their best effort by far. Changed the vocals and added more power to their music.
