the title says it all. my choices are: -hammerfall-heeding the calll -judas priest-the green manalishi -iron maiden-the wicker man -led zeppelin-stairway to heaven(the bit just before the solo ending, "oouh, oouuuh") remember, live CHANTS, not live sing-along bits(like judas priest-exciter or electric eye)

It's not what you're after, but Nergal's introduction to the live version of 'Demigod' on the Slaves Shall Serve EP is mind-blowingly powerful. THIS IS THE TITLE TRACK....FROM THE NEW RECORD....THIS IS...DEMI-FUCKING-GOD!! CHANT ON, BROTHERS!!" *thinks of some actual chants*

For me it was either Chimaira doing 'Army Of Me' (I believe its a Bjork cover) or 'Big Guns' performed by Sebastian Bach, a whole sold out major arena pumping there fists in the air and chanting along with the chorus was pretty powerful.

When I saw Arch Enemy, the did a longer version of "Tear Down the Walls" which turned into a pretty good chant.

"Happy Happy Helloween Helloween Helloween, Happy Happy Helloween............" and I have been part of that chant!!! hahaha. amazing stuff.. also "Emperor! Emperor! Emperor!..." will obviously remind me of the Emperor show.. but people that havent seen them and been a part of that wont have the same feelings towards it..

I personally think Turisas' "BATTLE BATTLE METAL!" chant would be excellent but I haven't seen them live yet (will do next week) so I can't really judge for myself. Otherwise, I'd have to agree with Baz on the "Happy Happy Helloween!" chants when I saw them live. Blind Guardian's "Valhalla...." chant was rather infectious too.

Fear of the Dark. One of the best live songs, for sing-alongs. EVERYBODY sings it, start to finish, as soon as they hear the first note. My favourite bit is the section just before and after the solos...it's also great to play. Other Maiden songs of note are Lord of the Flies, Heaven Can Wait and Drifter ('Yo-yo-yo!') Green Manalishi is also a winner, although I don't think many of the audience members can hit Rob's high notes. Also also, Ensiferum's Guardians of Fate has a fantastic section just after the sweep solo, which has several Maiden-esque 'woahs' (incidentally, Iced Earth have a lot of singable melodies, as well...due to the Maiden influences, no doubt), followed by a fist-pumping a capella 'Hey, hey, hey!' before launching into the last chorus...fantastic.

RavenLord is probably right, Fear of the Dark tends to get the whole audience of several thousands to chant and sing along (their asses off)!

28.02.2007 - 22:43 Written by RavenLord on 28.02.2007 at 20:30 dude, the section near the ending just has to be the winner in my case..it's simply unforgettable, and there really aren't any really high notes(assuming though they play the song in the first place )

I cannot think up any song off the top if my head, but HammerFall are most definately and undoubtedly the best band at the whole 'chanting thing' .

Blind Guardian's Valhalla. 60.000 people, fists in the air all singing in one voice. Nothing can beat that EDIT: Also Iron Maiden - Fear Of The Dark in Rock In Rio.

Iron Maiden's Fear Of The Dark, when the crowd sings the melody, is the best. Stratovarius' Forever, is great, too.

On "Imagination's through the looking glass," the chant is almost as long as the song itself and when I saw them last November, Hansi tried to end it like 3 times before it finally stopped. Blind Guardian fans turn into lynch mobs when that song starts, it rediculous http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZ_VFJn2kJM

if it counts as a chant, I would say the part in 'Creeping Death' by Metallica, when they start going "Die! Die! Die!Die!", it's frikkin' awesome live.

One of my all time favorites is "Eat My Ass And Balls". But it was sort of ruined when someone started the chant right after James finished singing "Wait For Sleep". Oh the hilarity of a Dream Theater show.

Never saw Amon Amarth live, but "Thor, Odin's son, protector of mankind, ride to meet your fate, your destiny awaits" from Twilight of the Thunder God MUST be one of the best sing-alongers in metal history.

I think most of you guys are missing the point of this thread.. Chants are different than singing the lyrics. Anyways, unfortunately I can't go to many concerts, but Iron Maiden's Fear of the Dark is amazing!
