We typically associate the job of producer with the overall sound quality of an album. When things sound crisp and clean, we praise the album's "production values". However, that's not the sole role of a competent producer; if it were, then a sound engineer to mix the album would suffice. The real job these guys have is to have good taste and to help the band and their songs be the best versions of themselves. Producers help with musical structure, song selection, track list order, and, in some cases, they go as far as to change musical segments entirely.

Probably their best since "the Gathering". But it wasn't hard, because the previous two sucked....

Still, surprisingly good

Wow, this album is really good and well produced! I really liked DROE and was eagerly waiting for this one, and I'm not disappointed. Congratulations Testament!

After the HORRIBLE first song (that sounds like it was written by 17yr-old angry kids) the thing gets quite enjoyable. However, after two spins I dont really get anything that sticks. It's forgetable, just another Testament record which isn't necessarily bad, I would still pay a ticket to watch some of these songs live.

Best thing here is the Peterson/Skolnick duo, they look tight as ever

This is the first Testament record I've heard since New Order where I thought, "Yeah, I could definitely listen to that again."

Quite good. But Testament albums take a long time to grow on me, so I'll have to wait and see after a few more listens

This does not surprise me as much as it seems to do with other people.
Good album, but I still prefer the '90 stuff (Low, Demonic, The Gathering).

Compared to other old thrash bands such as the big 4, this Testament band still rocks pretty much better than all.

When I was growing up listening to metal, I used to wonder every so often what my kids (if I ever had any--I didn't) would think about my metal; whether it would be found brutal and crushing, or whether it would sound antiquated to their younger ears.

Your review provides one possible answer.

It shouldn't come as surprise that Testament didn't do it anything than releasing Dark Roots v2.0 as majority expected an extended version of it.

Apart from "Stronghold" and "Black Jack", there is nothing to get excited about.

This album is awesome. Best thrash metal album (along with For All Kings bye Anthrax) in the past 10 years IMO. A lot of hipsters will disagree. Havoc is good, Evile, Toxic Holocaust, Lazarus AD, Sylsosis and others have put out great thrash albums, but this is the shit. Skolnick is the best thrash guitarist alive, Hoglan still rules and Billy's vocals are spot on perfect for thrash. Listen to this o5x and you will start breaking shit and thats what thrash is about. Fuck yeah, eat my fist, fuck you.

Good to see you're so pumped up. Apparently, I was more excited than you're when they break the news saying "they're recording new album". But, it quickly vanished once I listened to record and saw hell lot of similarity to "Dark Roots".

I'd expect something more different than just a regular "Testament" radio friendly chunky riffs after riffs.

This is not Dark Roots it's better. However, I loved Dark Roots and think that album kicks ass. I wouldn't call Stronghold, The Pale King or Canna-Business or the title track radio friendly at all. There is venom in this album. Yeah it sounds like Testament but that's a really good thing IMO. I did break a bar stool and few plastic plates and cups during my last alcohol fueled volume cranked listen. It was awesome.

Thrash is alive thanks to Testament! I thought it's dead but Brotherhood prove it's still can be exciting. Bravo! Perfect album with good songs and perfect riffs. Very hard and sometimes sounds like something much better than just headbanging thrash... death metal? I listen to it again and again and can't believe myself but I want more. Almost all songs are just blowing my mind. Growling vocals from time to time gives it super taste (out of normal thrash) and makes it supertharsh And riffs in the middle of Centuries of Suffering are just amazing. Once again bravo! One of best albums in 2016!

Some fine songs on this album although nothing jaw-dropping. I really like The Pale King. It definitely surpasses the mediocrity of Dark Roots.

Nothing will ever compare to their first 3 albums - some of my favorite thrash albums of all time.
