On third play it's fairly catchy thanks to the vocals. Cusp of Eternity was a way better first single from the last album though (and the only song off it I ever listen to).

Could not have been any worse. And yeah, cusp of eternity was parsecs ahead in quality.

Well it doesn't sound like Blackwater Park, so that automatically means it sucks

Third play? Wow. Were you really curious or did you really enjoy it? Cuz I didn't even finish it once and can't find a single sane reason to go back to this.

Well not 3 full plays. Probably one 1 full and twice half way or so. Not sure why.

I find it just a tiny bit dull, but still listenable. Never been the biggest Opeth fan (though I've been meaning to re-explore them, only really listened to Blackwater Park and Ghost Reveries) and this doesn't make me any more interested.

That guitar tone is pretty great though. Managed to feel distinctly Opeth while carrying a ton of weight.

I barely made it past the intro, but once the heavier riff kicked in it was pretty good. They should consider taking all of their songs and then snipping out the most experimental 10% of each one.

I would really recommend Watershed more than any other from their output. It is really good and it is a perfect swansong to THE REAL Opeth.

Yeah, it's funny though as it's kind of a not-so-liked album by many, but probably joint best for me.

I'm not quite sure If I want listen to this or not.

Honestly, the only good thing about this is the vocals for me. I don't even like this new "heavy" tone they've gone for with the guitars. Just sounds cheap.

I kind of like it. If you listen to it, not thinking about the old opeth, it's quite nice. But I'm also sensing a great Ghost influence, but maybe that's just me

Well, then I'll probably dont touch this. I hoped for something in the vein of Watershed, but I guess I can only dream.

Couldn't be further from it unfortunately.

This is the final confirmation that we'll never find back the old Opeth. The last huge and true Opeth was Watershed. However Heritage was still good, Pale Communion a less better and Sorceress, if we take that first song, will be close to Pale Communion. One thing is sure, we'll never ear a really bad album from Opeth, Michael is too smart for that.

How does the new "heavy tone" sound like exactly?

At times it sounds almost djenty, at others it almost sounds like something off a Kylesa record. Probably makes it sound more interesting than it actually is tbh.

I will give it a listen now simply because I want to know how much it differs in quality from a good Kylesa album

I don't think the distance could be measured by any conventional scale

Despite the fact that everyone was just waiting anxiously Opeth to drop a new track anytime on web; people everywhere have now started fomenting final results of new record. This is way off the line.

We know what sort of sound Opeth have developed into this new record but can't judge how other songs will take shape.

Not really my thing, but I always commend bands for playing what feels real to them rather than just rehashing territory because of what the fans want. An insincere Blackwater Park-sounding track would be worse than this.

Mikael has been so fed up with Italian Prog lately, bands such as Goblin and MR! This song is also exactly on those thought lines.

Good video

My thoughts exactly.
I don't think it's a bad song at all. In fact i really like it, but i'm a huge Opeth fan so what do i know?
I think we have to draw the difference between what it is, and what we expect about the band.
To be honest, i didn't understood Heritage until Pale Communion was released. And for what this song sounds like, i think it's gonna be better than those records.
At the end of the day, it is about the quality and not about the harsh vocals and blast beats. But that's just me.

I think this is a bit heavier song as latest 2 albums but this band has only name, band must split up, or tour only, we don't need new records, I am open mindet but this is totally what belvis and bullerhead must listen and comment , ehhh what wussness, lamness in one song. Band is dead to me, maybe I should remove from fav band list? basically sucks. Mikke is getting old

That was a fucking bizarre listen. I don't necessarily dislike new Opeth (although apart from the second half of Eternal Rains Will Come I'm struggling to remember much at all off the last two albums that I'm fond of), but this is weird. PC was a step in the right direction from the flaws of Heritage, was hoping this would keep getting Opeth closer to the 'Opeth feel' even if staying old-school prog rock, but this is just weird and jarring
