The Ozzfest organizers have issued the following press release:

Move over, Miss America. Let's face it, your unrealistic ideals are no longer in-sync with today's woman. After 75 years, you're about to be kicked to the curb.

A provocative pageant will take center stage this summer as hard rocking beauties across the country vie for the title of "Miss Ozzfest."

No ball gowns are required for this competition, as contestants will be applauded for their tattoo sleeves and strategically placed piercings. While thoughts on world peace and ending world hunger won't be necessary, experience on the "Crazy Train" may help push them to the finals.

This coming Friday, May 19, Ozzfest emcee Big Dave (well-known for his role in MTV's "Battle for Ozzfest") and professional Ozzfest party guy, Eddie, will embark on a nationwide trek, personally visiting 19 of the festival's 26 markets to stage events to find the first-ever Miss Ozzfest. The duo will be accepting entries and taking photographs of Miss Ozzfest candidates in each city (a complete list of dates is below). There are a number of Ozzfest tour cities that Big Dave and Eddie won't be able to get to on their cross-country trek, so special events will be held for contestants to enter in each of those cities. Throughout the summer, Ozzfest fans will take matters into their own hands, voting for their favorite entrants at Ozzfest.com. All entries collected from Big Dave and Eddie will be posted for fans to vote on. The top three in each tour city will be awarded free tickets to the show in their city, where at some point during the evening's festivities, the trio of contestants will be presented on stage to the discerning hard rock fans who will vote on a winner. Photos of each winning contestant, including the top vote getters from Raleigh and West Palm Beach, will be posted once again on Ozzfest.com, where fans can pick their Miss Ozzfest 2006. Final voting will be held at Ozzfest.com on August 7 and 8.

The winning beauty will be awarded the grand prize and receive round trip airfare and accommodations for her and a guest to attend the year's final show August 13 in West Palm Beach where she'll be crowned Miss Ozzfest 2006. We're sure her parents will be proud.

As for Miss Ozzfest, while I applaud their desire to smash archetypical feminist roles, I think the very process of a Pagent defeats their overall purpose. Pagents fucking suck... at least human pagents. (I've come to terms with the Westminster Kennel Club now that I have a dog)

I heard about this "Miss Ozzfest" thing on the radio, and i thought that it might be a good idea, but then again, all the gay bands that are going to be there, the girls probally wouldent be metal anyways, and i think its sort of dumb, because ozzfest has shitty types of music played there.

You make a very good point, but I realy don't think the Miss Ozzfest organisers actually had any intention of 'smashing archetypical feminine roles' at all. This contest reeks of hollowness. Much like the festival itself .

This is such a wierd and stupid idea from the Ozzfest team....

I cant believe they have resorted down to parading women over the stage... It does make a mockery of the festival and is blatantly just a money making scheme...

But as has been said, that's all the festival is.

Well, not to spoil the mood of this thread or anything, but, I have to point out that the woman in your avatar is in fact a musician, one who sang the lyric, "I'm your beauty queen." (Not to mention, "Stick it in me, you know you want to") And seems to parade around in front of people like meat.

How fucking lame......... Ozzfest had some good bands usually, but adding a beauty contest makes it lame.... Who can help me say "commercialization"?

You know guys I'm so tired of everyone taking the music as how it SHOULD NOT be , Ok as I have said before I respect if they want to make a fool of themselves or if they want to make money , that's their problem , but it angers me that more and more each day music has become this ahh Monster ..ahh what a pity my beautiful music ....I don't know I don't know but well nice to see the truth behind the ozzfest curtain ...

Couldnt agree with you more my friend.Especially after what Sharon did to Maiden completely erased any thoughts of going there (thats how desperate I am to see Maiden).But once again I must say nice you pretty much said it all.

If your Ozzfest is anything like ours - all this happens away from all the tents where you dont have to ever go near. If you want it to be about metal and beer - then let it be about metal and beer, and go to the stages - watch the bands, drink your beer and be with your mates and have a fucking good time. I personally am the same so thats what I would do. This is purely to add a little something to the festival which you can choose to ignore or not. I'm not for Ozzfest I must admit - but the festivals I do go to I ignore what I don't like if it doesn't get in my way. The whole point of a festival isn't just metal and beer, its having the choice to do what you want for the weekend and not give a shit. Should that be metal or metal/emo kids parading round just do what you want and let others do what they want and stop whining about it.

I think generally it's a nice idea for a real festival (which Ozzfest isn't!!!) like Wacken for example that takes place in more than one day... I think festivals should be diverse and all kinds of metal related stuff are welcome in my book...

This is ridiculous. The whole idea of mainstreaming metal has gone too far, and Ozzfest are just beating a dead horse now. Not to mention it is obviously going to further stereotype metalheads, and let's face it-most of the chicks going in to this competition are going to be mallgoths or mallcore kids. Seriously, Ozzfest is just a joke. More than half the bands there are emo, and it gets so much unfair publicity. But then again, if life was fair, MetalHammer and Kerrang wouldn't exist, all festivals would model themselves after Wacken and Tuska, and the shops would be filled with bands like Skyfire and Blind Guardian. Basically, just ignore this. It's a really crap PR stunt to try and draw more people to Ozzfest, but we all know it's shit anyway.
