The Last Metal Concert(?)

ok, I'm going to get a bit "role-playing" on your behinds so listen up: imagine the following scenario: The year is 2009 (!), and Hip-hop, trance, country, pop techno (etc) has totally "overshadowed" the genre of metal. The world leaders are therefore planning of banning metal for good, since there's no obvious reason in keeping the genre alive, except for running outcomes. Heroic (hey!) and as metalhead as you are, you deny, and beg the world leaders for a chance to keep metal alive. The world leaders agree that this is reasonable, since the "dying man/woman" always get to say a few last words, so they decide that the only chance that metal is going to exist as a genre (in the ways of launching CDs/MP3s or whatever they use in 2009), is for you and a group of men/women, to hold a last Metal concert, to convince them, that metal deserves to live as much as the other genres. You get to choose 4(or only 3 if you wish) others to play with you (don't think about skill etc, however, they must be alive at this writing date), and then you have to choose 8 Songs that you're going to play (we all know it's way too little to show the whole aspect of metal but hey, they're the ones in charge), and if you don't convince people, that metal is truly great, metal will forever perish( BAM BAM BAAAA!). so, my questions are as following: Which 4(or less) other musicians would you want to play with you? (skills doesn't matter in this "assignment"). And what 8 songs, would YOU play, to make people realise that metal deserves to live? (again, don't think about skills or anything, a magic power-metal wizard gave you some magic pot so you can sing, play however you like). The choice is yours, and the fate of metal lies in your hands... (whoa!)

Awesome concept...well Id be on drums of course. But the rest of the line-up would be like this: Lead Vocals: Sebastian Bach (ex-Skid Row) Bass/Back-up vocals: Joey DeMaio (Manowar) Rythm Guitars/Lead & Back-Up Vocals: Blackie Lawless (WASP) Lead Guitars/Lead & Back-Up Vocals: Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth) Our 8 songs would be: 1. Running Wild In The Streets (By WASP) 2. Monkey Business (By Skid Row) 3. Into Battle (By Ensiferum) 4. Welcome To The Jungle (By Guns N Roses, yeah I know not completely metal but theyd make it metal) 5. Holy Wars (By Megadeth) 6. Die For Metal (By Manowar) 7. The Trooper (By Iron Maiden) 8. Bohemian Rhapsody (By Queen, except it would a heavy metal version) At this point the world leaders would be sooo blown away that we come back on and play an encore, and it would be a new song written collectively by my band, and it would be the greatest metal song ever f*cking written.

Interesting thread, despite the far-fetched concept. I had to really think hard and do some serious culling for this one! The band would be a mishmash from various genres, just so we could play varied stuff. Lead Vocals: Eric Adams (Manowar) Guitars, Backing Vocals and Growls: Jari Mäenpää (Wintersun, ex-Ensiferum) Guitars: Marty Friedman (Marty Friedman, ex-Megadeth, ex-Cacophony) Bass: Myself (even though I don't play!) Drums: Jan Axel "Hellhammer" Blomberg (Mayhem, Dimmu Borgir, ex-Arcturus) N.B. If I hadn't been obliged to include myself, then Hansi Kürsch would have occupied my role, as well as taking some vocal duties. Maybe he can be a guest... Followed by the introduction (taken from Emperor's 'In the Nightside Eclipse'), we would blast off! 1. The Trooper (Iron Maiden) 2. Nightfall (Blind Guardian) 3. Painkiller (Judas Priest) 4. 793 - Slaget Om Lindisfarne (Enslaved) 5. Symphony Of Destruction (Megadeth) 6. Eagle Fly Free (Helloween) 7. Starchild (Wintersun) 8. Battle Hymn (Manowar) Wow, that is actually a really fine setlist... I'm sure the world would let Metal live on forever!

Definetely different thread that we used to watch here.. I like it Vocals - King Diamond Guitar - Kai Hansen Guitar - myself Bass - Joey De Maio Drums - Mikey Dee 1. Ride The Sky (Helloween) 2. Arrival (King Diamond) 3. A Mansion In Darkness (King Diamond) 4. Come To The Sabbath (Mercyful Fate) 5. Future World (Helloween) 6. Heart Of Steel (Manowar) 7. I want Out (Helloween) 8. Black Wind, Fire and Steel (Manowar) After this, I think that they would probably kill us immidiately.

My list is quite different than yours. I will go easy on them, as world leaders might look bad about Emperor or songs that have "Destruction" in their name. So: Epica- Run for a wall Nightwish- Bless the child Battlelore- Journey to undying lands Sonata Arctica- Blinded no more Within Temptation- Candles Leaves' Eyes- Farewell proud men Catamenia- Location:cold Apocalyptica- Kaamos Has enough power, but its packed into beauty.

Well....if role-play then role-play.... I'd morph to Zakk Wylde...so...I'd be Zakk Wylde and playing the guitars(if magic powers made it possible and gave all the skills) Aronax....you could morph into Kai Hansen then and take the guitars... Kuriraivo of our own Metsatöll could play bass....... Fabrizio of Macbeth could play drums.... Melissa Ferlaak of Aesma Daeva and Visions of Atlantis could sing.... and since we all can sing...we will all sing...with power... now...the songs...that's a good thing here to think about... 1. Meeste Laul(Song of Men) by Metsatöll....originally composed by Miina Härma, an Estonian composer.... 2. Cuchulainn by Cruachan.... 3. Earmarka(Fair) by Holy Blood 4. El Diablo y la Luna by Macbeth 5. Creek Mary's Blood by Nightwish 6. Hiiekoda by Metsatöll 7. Seasonspeech by Elvenking 8. Ragnarök by Tyr If we die....we die with honour...and continue a ravaging party in Valhalla in the dark forests of cloudy heavens.........

Alrighty... I'm on bass and handle harsh vocals. Guitars - Michael Romeo (probably the best guitarist of our time) Clean Vocals - Matt Barlow (need I say more?) Keyboards - Rick Wakeman (that's right...Rick "I was in Yes" Wakeman) he is totally distraught about losing metal forever (for some reason) and lends his magic fingers to my band Drums - Jan Axel von Blomberg (hellhammer) Setlist 1)"The Book of Heavy Metal (March of Metalians)" (Dream Evil) - I know, cheesy, but such a great opener...MMEEEETTTAAAAAAAL!!! 2)"Glory of the Empire" (Circus Maximus) - A little "blow the crowd away-ness" with this one 3)"Back in the Day" (Megadeth) - straight up ass-kicking here and a song about metal...kinda fits 4)"Moonlit Night" (Morgana Lefay) - Some ballad action 5)"Eternal Wait" (Ensiferum) - just a great song...and some more ballading (sort of) 6)"Death In Fire" (Amon Amarth) - back to the ass-kicking 7)"Thorn" (Blind Guardian) - not one of their famous songs, but my favorite...and soooo epic (this is where a full choir is unveiled) 8)"Mabool" (Orphaned Land) - the entire thing...all four parts (this is where a full orchestra is unveiled) Encore(s) "Dante's Inferno" (Iced Earth) - Oh yes...what a show "The Odyssey" (Symphony X) - But wait...there's more...no way I know, I "cheated" but the encores are the key to swaying the world...no one would expect these songs as encores

The band: Harsh vocals: Me Guitars/clean vocals: James Hetfield (Metallica) Bass/keyboards/clean vocals: Geddy Lee (Rush) Drums: Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) Female vocals: Tarja Turunen (ex-Nightwish) Four vocalists! Cool, huh? Tarja mostly sings the choir parts. The setlist: Intro: Frozen Sky by Norther 1. Revolution Calling (Queensrÿche) Thought this one might fit. I sing the verse and Hetfield and Lee the chorus. 2. Ghost Love Score (Nightwish) Tarja shines, the band is joined by the Octavarium Orchestra (from Dream Theater - Score) 3. Phantom of the Opera (Iron Maiden) All vocalists sing, sometimes alone... sometimes all at once like in the "Keep your distance/Walk away/Don't take his bait"-part. 4. Middletown Dreams (Rush) The ballad of the night. Sung only by Lee although Tarja can be heard in the chorus. 5. The Moor (Opeth) Sung by me and Hetfield, the "ooohhh-oohhh-oohhh"-part is sung by all. 6. Stormblåst (Dimmu Borgir) Sung by me, some choir sound from Tarja. 7. A Change of Seasons (Dream Theater) Sung by the clean vocalists. 8. Master of Puppets (Metallica) This is sung only by Hetfield and he gives his best performance ever. The other vocalists can only be heard during "Master master!" and the laughs at the end. A lot of fireworks and stuff duirng this song. Outro: Ending Credits (Opeth)

The best way to preserve the metal, is tricking the world leaders, so they think that metal is just like any other music, so instead of choosing metal musians, im going to chose: Lead Vocals: Beyonce Guitar: Carlos Sanatana Bass: Me Drums: Ringo Starr Keyboards: the dude from coldplay that plays the piano And the songs, they have to be famous songs: 1. Master of Puppets (Metallica) 2. Nemo (Nightwish) 3. Number of the Beast (Iron Maiden) 4. Bed of Razors (CoB) 5. That song from Twisted Sister that i dont know the name, but it's their most famous song 6. The Unforgiven (Metallica) 7. Walk (Pantera) 8. Breaking the Law (Judas Priest) After saving the metal i would commit suicide for creating this heresy, but i would die in peace, know that i saved the metal.

Anyhoo, I don't have a growlist on my band.... But I choose to go easy, so that people who are nothing more than a bunch of pussies and go screaming and poiting with fingers when they see someone wearing corpsepaint and growling, calling him of course the mega antichrist or seeing some thrashers, assuming they're nothing more than drunken morons... So I hope they dig it. And I'm so cool behind the drums
