So here it is, a thread for the hungarian metal band Dalriada(or formerly known as Echo of Dalriada). For you who aren't familiar with Dalriada, it's a hungarian band who play an epic style of folk metal, and sings enterly in hungarian.

Awesome band, really. On of the best bands I heard in the last few years (in this genre of cause). Music is awesome, and I really like their melodies, they really reminds me on Hungarian folklore melodies, and lyrics proofs me right. Most of the melodies sounds like Chardas or something, it is really awaesome. Vocals are also very good. I am just nmnot sure is this for Extreme or melodic forum lol
Favorite songs: Vandor - Fohasz, Nema Harangok, Tqzhozó, Szondi Két Apródja and definetely my favorite of this band A Tavasz Dala, great song

I like it a lot....awesome celtic-ugric music....The vocals are very good and the music is also grand...the piano sequences remind me of Béla Bártok who also used lots of folk tunes.....

@Aronax: I thought about to put them in the extreme metal forum, but they have so many catchy melodies, so i found it more approriate to put it in the melodic metal forum. What do you mean

That is something I've been wondering about too....Anyhow, It's a kick ass band with one of the best vocals in metal. It's to bad that I don't understand hungarian though , I've heard that they have some pretty good lyrics too!

Don't pay attentin on me lol anyway, I don't understand Hungarian much, almost nothing actually, but my good friend translated me their lyrics on Serbian, and it sound awesome, anyway, she said that much of the lyrics beauty was lost during translation (what is logical when you are translating poetry from one language to another, especially if they are not in the same group of languages), and they still sound good. That means that they are really good.

Csárdás isn't a band....it's a dance....it's a Hungarian folk dance and it basically means "tavern-dance"..a merry dance to dance at inns indeed(Frodo in Prancing Pony for instance)...csárda means "inn" in Hungarian.....

Exactly, I didn't know how to write it in hungarian, I know the dance and name but I missed spelling lol
Some songs and melodies really reminds me on some Csárdás rhytms

Yeh...you're welcome....it reminded Bártok to me...he was a Hungarian composer who said that folk tunes should be used in classical music...but his main idea was that a composer should never change the original tune but just give it a stronger base....the folk melodies must remain as they are...but they will be made stronger by piano rhythms and why not...metal basis...as Dalriada does it....and I do like the language...it sounds very well here....it appeals to me as Metsatöll does...at the same time I dislike Finnish folk-metal...can't help it...I don't dislike it but it isn't that cool and awesome as Estonian and Hungarian is....Finnish style is more distinct.....you can sense it in Korpiklaani's, Finntroll's and Ensiferum's music.....
But Dalriada and Metsatöll are more....how to say....Celtic....it pleases me....

I went to their website to check it out but it was only in hungarian. They could have at least made it in English as well. What assholes! How am am i supposed to check out their music if i can't get to the "free mp3 samples" section of their website? I suppose you have to click on the "extrak" button but that just gives some error. So what now?

They have done it in english before, but somehow it seems like that option has disappeared....Anyhow, try the "diszkográfia" option on that site. It should lead you to some Mp3's plus their video. otherwise yuo can check their myspace(first link I posted).

EDIT: I agree with Frodo of Steel here, be careful with the word "asshole".

The language is really nice, I agree. for me, the language sounds rubust but at the same time hearth-warming. I also like the easten-european folk metal bands more, as their simpley more "feel" in it. The scandinavian scene is somewhat...soulless, IMO. Extremly few metal bands has made our folk music sound more beautiful then it allready is, they have rather taken away the magic instead.

Anyway, I couldn't open English version, but you can always download some music on internet and later buy album if you like it. I bought Kikelet some mounths ago for 7 euros I think and it is really worthy, booklet is pretty nice

I'm glad they changed name... an English name didn't fir for them..

About their last album "Kikelet", I think it's their weakest, but still very good... the first three songs are amazing as always, but after that there are not outstanding tracks... I see also that they adopted a most typical approach to folk metal, their first two albums are more unique...

Anyway, I can't understand why (Echo Of) Dalriada are unsigned

I adore this band! Personally, I rate Kikelet over Fergeteg, although I still need some time to really like it. Of course, nothing beats their masterpiece Jégbontó (which includes my favourite Dalriada song, "Igaz Hittel") in my opinion. Jégbontó is a wonderful album: it is varied (including an intro and two instrumentals, "Drégel" and "Jégbontó"), mature (especially in comparison with their first release), and neither too long nor too short, but overall very fun to listen to, with all the folk spirit as well in fast songs like "Védj Meg, Láng! (I. rész)" as in slower ones like "Virrasztó" or "Téli Ének".

By the way, who will be the first Metalstormer to post a link with all of their discography translated into English?

It good that dalriada finally have been submited to metalstorm! Personaly I think Fergeteg is a strong realise to be a debute. It's a litter slower then the rest of the albums, but it makes up for it in atmosphere, escpacially in songs like 'Védj meg láng', Vérzõ Ima' and 'Ötödik nap'. To include their epic version of "A Walsi Bárdok" isn't that bad either. But I don't think Dalriada havn't realised a single weak song, all albums are good in it's own way.

@Taksekte: Who ever translate it deserves some serious credit! But I don't think it would be too hard to submit the hungarian lyrics though.

@Aronax: one shouldn't say these things out loud! Nah, I guess I'm really envious of you, have a good trip!

In fact, I recently submitted the Jégbontó lyrics to Metal Storm. It's just a matter of time to see them published by Staff and Mods.

@Aronax of Steel: Good luck and have fun in Budapest! I have been honoured to be there some weeks ago and it is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen. Do not forget to write a concert review!
