i'm listening right now to Dio's "Holy Diver" and the song is a fucking masterpiece, it kicks major ass. but i remember when i saw it first on TV(and heard it first) on VH1. the video....was just ...fucking bad! do metal bands make cheap videos, even if they are crappy, just for the sake of having a video and the exposure and money that come with it?

I am not sure why is that, but most of metal bands have crap of videos, that is why I hate to watch metal (and any other) videos. I don't know do they think it is cool to have stupid video, maybe they don't have money to make some cool video so they pay a small sum of money just to record some crap because they think it will let people know for them. well, in some way it is right thinking, I know for some bands thanks to their videos only, but I doubt that they wanted reaction like mine is.

Somehow, I think it is better to record the band alive, and then just to put music behind, it make much better sence than videos where members of the band make stupid faces, run through the park, burn miniature churches, rape corpses with lot of ketchup.. you know already

Its a tradition... All metal bands must have crappy videos. But honestly, black metal wins it because of their damn low budget videos (haha Immortal are the kings of crappy videos!)

I love the cheesiness of some Metal videos like like the one for the Candlemas song "Bewitched". That video makes me bust a gut every time I watch it.

Thanx for the link, I like Unholy Guest, it is recorded in Finland and guys really put much effort in that video, I talk to the singer and he said that they gave big part of their budget just for that video, that is how things work, and not giving 20 euros for can full of blood and some whore from the high-way that will drink it and spoil over her body...

Some people think, that the worst Iron Maiden's video is "Holy Smoke". But I like it - ridiculous video, in spite of the fact that very cheap. I think, sometimes it is necessary to do similar things, such variety sometimes is necessary. And who has told, what all video should be expensive?

I think I like older videos than videos that are being produced these days. I think old videos have character from all the crappiness, for instance Soon to be dead by Dismember, or Arch Enemies Bury me an Angel...I admit johan looks ridiculous in that video...but some videos like Iron Maiden's Raindmaker and In flames take this life drive me up the wall.

Hehe, yeah, Candlemass' cheesiness can be really funny. And the same applies to Cathedral! I mean... the Midnight Mountain video, with the crazy 70s disco feeling... and Hopkins, the Witchfinder General, with Lee Dorrian dancing like he's mad or something and all the members ogling the dancer girl, and the cheesy sound clips... gold, just gold.

Also, Messiah's dances are just...

Rhapsody videos are interesting.
Rain of a Thousand Flames for example, you should see this one.

Haha Holy Smoke is one of my favorite videos of all time
Its really funny to watch Bruce wearing a pink tshirt in the middle of the flowers =D Also I laughed so hard when I saw they playing soccer

Metal has bad videos because they spend all their money in production... Most of the times, specially power metal bands, check Rhapsody (Of fire) videos...

I'm firmly convinced that video is a joke. I mean, Christ, the sunglasses? The hoodie? The absurd gestures? The massively over-the-top makeup? The absence of the source of the female voice until the very end? It's just too bad.

And that's without even getting to the stupid song.

One of the crappiest (metal) videos I've watched is Within Temptation's Ice Queen but their later videos are much better ( but the music is more and more boring )

The worst video ive ever seen is Kalmah - Withering Away, its so bad that its funny. I think that the video was made this way: one day kalmah members were traped during a snow storm without anything to do, and the only thing that they had was a handycam, so in when they were about to die for boredom pekka said -lets do a promotional video-.
