Hopefully they find the stone under which they hid their former creativity, because their last 3 albums were quite bland and unoriginal, and lacked all the brilliant songwriting and the catchiness of the ones before that. Hopes are not sky-high, though.

I think a lot of that is due to Olivier Gabriel's departure. You could tell the inspiration was lacking and their last album without him was a complete paint-by-numbers release, just going through the motions.

Benighted is a longtime favorite of mine among death metal bands but I don't count on them anymore to live up to previous material. This autopilot style they're into now leaves a lot to be desired, especially when taking into account their capabilities based on their back catalog.

Yeah, they always said the writing of their albums was a group effort, but as it turns out, one guy came up with the cool stuff and the others with the rest... I know bands who experience such a drastic dip in quality rarely get their shit together again, but it's a real shame in Benighted's case. Their run between ICP and Asylum Cave was some of the finest deathgrind stretches I've ever heard. Too bad they chose brutality over songwriting, really.
