I was considering to open this thread in the Metal Arena, but I think that this is not a battle at all, instead, I opened this to see which genre do you consider the hardest to get into, based on your own experience and on what you have heard/read from other people.

I know that many people seem to take a lot to get into progressive metal, for example, and I don't know why, but I supposed it's because this whole experimentation with complex structures and stuff. In the other hand, and based on the number of fans of each band, I can see that doom metal is one of the most "unpopular" (¿?) or the hardest genre to get into for most of the people here in Metal Storm (especially funeral doom).

The genre that has taken me the most to get into is death metal, basically the pure death, technical death and brutal death. I don't know why this happens to me as I don't dislike grunts, and I would say that the only death metal form I appreciate is melo-death (including gothenburg) or death metal fusions with other genres like death/doom or death/prog.

So, what do you think it is the most difficult genre to get in?

I really agree with this. The first time I heard some bands I was like "this is shit... no doubt about it"
But then I heard more black and death metal... And tried again. And that's when I finaly heard the melodies that were waaaaaaay cleaner.

What kind of bands do you like?

YEah, that'steh thing, getting into Black ad Death, ad get progressively more extreme
I'm getting into Cattle Decapitation to start, Prostitute Disfiguremet and The Berzerker. I know those last 2 are more brutal death than grind, but it's still really heavy stuff.

The latest albums by The Berzerker are really cool man. If you like something more avantgarde I really recommend you !T.O.O.H! [you can find them here] amazing jazzy grindcore with the best drummer I heard in the genre.

And also you have to try Pig Destroyer. They are also very

I really liked Pig Destroyer. ¡T.O.O.H.¡, not that much, sorry. But I really enjoyed Pig Destroyer. It's pretty cool, and it's kinda ironic how friendly teh vocalist seems

Jajajaja, it's funny. I thought you would like T.O.O.H but not Pig Destroyer. T.O.O.H need a lot of time to grown on you since the vocals are completely love or hate to death. I actually love them and the solos are pure orgasms. If you haven't listen to a lot of songs I recommend you to listen to the song "Kali" from their last album... The final 2 minutes are one of my best moments in music history. With a mean solo bass.

Talking about PD, they kick ass. And I asure you. If you liked at least one album, then everything is fine since every album is a safe one I find incredible the fact that the band lacks a bassits but the drummer makes all the low tones... Really amazing.

I don't know if the guy's friendly, at times he sounds really depressing [depressing grindcore... wtf?] and he is a hell of a lyricist. Buying and album is like buying a small novel. since the booklet is masive.

EDIT:
Hearing "Loathsome" by PG... the beginning is just,... woooooow. If I go to a concert of this guys I would miss an arm there. Brutal shit. and easy to get into IMO...

The most difficult genre for me to get into is either grindcore or brutal death metal...considering I haven't got into it at all! I'm more a fan of melodic stuff...but I still respect the talent that most brutal bands have.

I have found Death metal hard to get into at first, it was only after discovering particular bands that I was able to see the beauty of it. Unfortunatly though it is one of the most one dimensional genre's of metal, at least on its own. That's not to say the genre' doesn't have its masters and brilliant musicians.

For me brutal death bands like cannibal corpse or deicide. the lyrics of cannibal corpse is very cool but every time i want to try it the burp vocal of CORPSEGRINDER made me to burp too. like auuugh. but deicide is something different this band even don't have lyrics that deserve to read without music.i don't know how they've got their fans.
underground blackmetal is something else. now i can't tolerate them but i really will try them someday.i know they have something new,

Grindcore/Brutal Death.
Everytime I try to listen to Cannibal Corpse, I always daze off and forget I'm even listening to music.

I also find Thrash, Doom, and Black difficult to grasp and enjoy, for whatever reasons.

I know what you mean, man. I was first interested in finding out about ALL the genres when I got into metal and black metal was just my thing. I would admit for most people it's difficult to get into, but when I REALLY think about it, my transition was easy. Black metal was just the sound I was looking for.

At that same time, I tried doom and it was way too boring. Three or four years later I'm taking another look into the genre and I gotta say it seems a bit more interesting. However, 20 minute songs were quite the challenge (in this genre) because it is so repetitive. However, I'm adjusting to it and absorbing the feeling. But now I would have to say traditional Doom is hard to get into for that reason.

@TheBigRossowski: well, I cant digest epic or tradition doom so I dont dig that it that much, so Im not really sure that tradition doom or epic doom has very long lenth, like you said 20 minutes. But for other doom genre, funeral, death/doom, or gothic doom, Im a big fan even for long length, a typical trait of doom. For epic/tradition, I think I can digest Forsaken, and Isole, but mostly others I cant get into, but yeah time will answer, 'cuz I have absorbs some like Forsaken, maybe in future, it can be my fav genre

Another genre I remember it is also hard for me to get into, also taken from Zuzuz0r post is Avant-garde, mostly the bands are nominated in Metalstorm award, Virus, Tomahawk, etc, I really feel interested when reading the introduction in the award, but when I checked them, I find them really weird. They almostly using clean vocal and yeah almost avant garde band using clean vocals are those I cant digest. Besides that, I like only Sammath Naur, which is more extreme, Mirrorthrone, same, more extrem, and In The Woods...

First Death metal seemed hard, but then I got Nile´s CD ITDS, and that was it.
At the moment, I can´t get into Black, Doom nor Grindgore. Don´t know why. Doom is so sloooow, maybe thats why. Black and Grindgore have the same problem (for me): shitty sounds. That´s something I can´t understand. Yea they are trying to be "un-mainstream", but holy hell...

Neither I listen to grindcore and stuff like that, but one day I think may be I will. I loved Heavy, Epic, Power and Progressive metal, then I began listening to Viking, Celtic, Folk Metal. So, through Opeth, Eluveitie, Manegarm etc., I started listening to Meshuggah, Amon Amarth, etc.
Imho, if you like metal, you cannot completely dislike other sub-genres. In fact, it can happen that one day you can just "fall" listening to (and appreciating) them.

Well, probably doom for me. Although I have decided lately that I will take some more time for listening to this genre. It definitely must have something good to offer

But, I have to admit that the new Candlemass album ''Death Magic Doom'' does sound pretty good to me.
