Simple. The BM sellout battle. Both COF and DM are identified as the ultimate Black Metal Sellouts. Which one do you prefer? And why? I personally prefer Dimmu. I don't like Danni Filth's voice.

Poll

Which sellout BM band you prefer?

Dimmu Borgir
429
Cradle Of Filth

I love Dimmu Borgir! Though, I think that the new album will be weird without ICS Vortex and Mustis.

I never liked Cradle of Filth. The're more like a Cradle of Crap in my opinion, but thats just me.

I like Dimmu because they are not sellouts in my opinion. Cradle used to be good but now they turned to shit.

The last 2 Cradle albums are good imo, while Abrahadabra is another step back.

Yes, i also, think the same way.Even though goodspeed and darkly darkly wasn't one of their bests, it was quite easily better than the new releases of dimmu.

So, in the near future Cradle Of Filth should be able to close the gap in this poll

Hope the future albums, will be in the same vein as midian or maybe damnation,if that happens COF,will easily able to close the gap.Anyways,i find COF's older albums much better than dimmu's older albums. One, more thing dimmu are black metal sell outs, but idk why people call COF,bm sellouts. They were never BM, in the first place.

One good album doesn't make one good band. Plus, I can't stand the vocals. I admit that it's not really my thing, though. I pretty much dislike all black metal with the exception of Bal-Sagoth and I love them because of their symphonic compositions and almost otherworldly melodies. I've tried listening to the supposed great black metal bands, but I've been unable to get into them. Because of this, I don't rate the black metal albums I've listened to, I probably wouldn't be fair. Since you seem to be a black metal fan though, what albums would you recommend that I listen to in order to get into bm (cause it's the only metal subgenre (I even like industrial metal :p ) I don't like and I want to complete the list)?

I see I see, well I do love black metal, but I'm probably the wrong person to ask for recommendations, I can give you a few, but there are other ms users who have been listening to it a lot longer and know more about it, I'm a complete rookie in the genre lol.

Blut Aus Nord- They have that 'weirdness' and originality similar to Bal-Sagoth, definetly worth listening to their early work
Catamenia- My favourite melodic bm band, their early work is very good. Avoid their last few disasters!
Dimmu Borgir- Fine symphonic bm, most would probably disagree, but I think every album they have released is good quality.
Emperor- Similar to Dimmu Borgir, but their lyrics are more awesome
Windir- Absolutely essential, can't imagine anyone disagreeing with that
Bathory- Same as above^

That's about all I can think of as a starting point, you've probably heard most of them anyway, but like I said, other ms users know much more than I do on this subject.

I had to pick cradle because I don't know Dimmu all that well. Dimmu's videos seem a little overproduced, the costumes a little too overboard. The music is good don't get me wrong, but c'mon, Cruelty and the Beast is a work of art, not just a badass metal album.

Fair enough. At least you tried and checked a few bands. Black Metal is not to everyone's taste and surely not an easy genre to get into, unless it really fits your tastes right away. But, for most people, it take some time getting accustomed to.

As for harsh vocals, I think it is possible to get into this vocal style slowly, even if you don't like this much at first and to widen your tastes when it comes to this kind of vocals, but I think you must have some interest in this vocal style in the first place. Imo, harsh vocals is to a certain extent an acquired taste and, if you utterly hate them at first, it will be very hard to get used to this style.

Still trying and checking. I'm not giving up easily. Took me ages to get into Opeth and now they're my favourite band. Last thing I listened to was Blut aus Nord, they're debut started off almost interesting, but then the songwriting got lost in the noise (again) and I said: fk this! Might try something else from them.

I can stand a few growls here and there in Black Metal songs, no problem. And I like some Death Metal vocals, like in Bolt Thrower, Massacra or Bal-Sagoth's first album (a vocal style Byron Roberts abandoned after this album). However the kind of very low growls used in Brutal Death, when it sounds kinda like the vocalist is puking or belching in the microphone, I really hate. And don't start me on pig squeals or the ridiculous 'vacuum noise' goregrind bands use instead of vocals. I despise this to no end.

I don't even find vocals aggressive in Brutal Death. Only monotone, emotionless and boring as hell.

No member of Cradle of Filth, past or present, has ever claimed that Cradle of Filth played black metal.
In fact, if my memory serves me well, Dani has personally said that CoF was never a black metal band, comparing the their earlier sound to Burzum or Darkthrone to show how unalike they are.
So, it's really not fair to have them in this poll.

Dimmu Borgir. But any band whoever made a single cent from there band is technically a sellout. It's not like Cradle or Dimmu started writing pop songs. iI'd bet a lot of so-called TRUE black metal bands would ditch they "NECRO" sound if they were able to afford to.
