I was curious if anyone knew any songs are bands that make use of this one particular guitar style. I don't know much about musical terminology, so I don't really know what it would be called, but the best I can describe it is Dio-style solos with more of a "spacey" sound. Here are some examples:

Van Halen example: from 0:55 - 1:20. I know Eddie did this by tapping, not conventional playing.
