I think the problem here is the stereotypical reclusive metalhead.

Haha, I can't really deny that. I think metal guys should just branch out with their music taste. That's what I myself have been doing for these past few months.

Personally I listen to a lot of different music, even popular stuff (well, not radio pop like Gaga and Bieber) like Genesis and Jefferson Airplane. I don't do it in order to branch out with the intent of catering to girls who don't like metal, just sometimes I need a break and/or want to return to listening to the music I grew up on.

So do I, but not for the women. They're a bonus.

I usually fall back on classical, but I can do some pop if the other girls do it. My best friend will do metal and pop, we never do country or rap, and one of us likes country and we just tell her NO. lol

It really isn't THAT easy to find a guy my age who listen to metal in my area other than nu-metal and rap-rock. You have to do some searching. lol

Haha, weeeeeell, You know I've seen plenty of fat chicks listening to country here, when I go to a concert most of the chicks are small there like me. Of course you could say the ones that go are only a portion of the metal chicks around. However in my area it sure seems like the "country girls" are the fatties. lol

American country music has wondered so far into mainstream pop territory, I rarely ever meet someone who likes (for lack of a better word) real American country/bluegrass/folk music. So I really can't comment on your observation.

No you're absolutely right and most of the girls I am talking about listen to cross over country.

Growing up in the country music capital of Australia, I kind of hate anything country now.
But yeah, the fat chicks tend to listen to country here, while the fugly, exoskeletal girls listen to metal.
And yeah, my gf does have a bit of meat on her

Trve American country music

As far as this topic, several reasons I could come up with.

1- A lot of metalheads ar ejust old drunks who can't get with anybody else
2- A lot of metalheads don't care as much about appearence
3- Most girls in metal are fat, from my observations, and metalheads like dating metal girls
4- All that fat can make a good shield from moshing.

haha maybe, but I'm happy with the current BF. lol

Well lets see, somethings that I excude right away on are....... (Hate away on it, but it won't change it. lol) Southern US accents/rednecks/hillbillies etc. Nasty, nasty nasty nasty, creeps me the hell out. Control issues/pseudo masculinity/chest thumping. Even if it's just during some stupid football game. I don't tolerant any man trying to be boss in my place, that being said I'm not bossy either. We discuss things, make choice, but the second a guy demands I do something he goes bye bye. His friends, bringing your pals over to watch football, etc etc and they end up watching me clean, cook, etc gets you a 1 way trip to their couch. My friends, I keep good friends, get along, or else. And finally we're a wild bunch, my date must have a ton of energy, hence I absolutely WILL NOT date an older man, ever.

Looks wise, not much here, if you think that being unkept and generally cavemanish looking is pleasing for us due to your laziness I promise you I won't even talk to you. lol Otherwise, don't matter, I don't even require a guy be tall like so many chicks, average height, hell my height don't care. I love long hair, but it's not even kinda a must. I like pretty men, but I've dated other types too.

And now for the part that men here will hate, I'm just about if not the world's biggest fag hag, so if you feel homophobic around my friends, utter a single bad thought, I toss you out, no if and or buts. +1000000 wild points in bed if my date is bisexual.

Them are my type, rules, whatever ya wanna call it, it rules out most men. In the end I am very picky, I am a girl who knows what she wants and I waited to get it, and I am glad I did.

WWOOOWW.....!!! I'm speechless..... believe me, I didn't even thought you were going to reply to this last posting, considering that I was asking you for your "personal" rules, but hey, very interesting, very.... straight forward. Yeah, almost every female AND male friend that I have did not have an interest in the metal genre before I knew them. I tend to surround myself with open-minded folks though, so my interest in metal (and other types of music) rubbed off on them in one way or another. I guess this should be considered a good thing... although my friend who I unintentionally turned into a power metal fanboy does kinda bug me when he puts on really generic power metal when we're hanging out. xD Anyway, I'm digressing.

^^ I was playing Painkiller on Rock Band with one of my friends (who isn't a metal fan) not long ago, and he expressed genuine surprise and shock when I told him that Rob Halford is gay. Being gay himself, and not knowing anything about metal, I think the stereotypes he had of the genre made him think there's no way anyone could actually be gay, and also into metal. Let alone be gay and in a metal band. So I think I opened his mind to the possibility that he could like metal... can't see him giving up his dance music any time soon though... hehe

To return to the topic....
i think metalheads like curvy, maybe a bit chubby girls (in this case i follow the stereotype), because we are simply less influenced by media
humans evolved in a way that female curves used to be, and still are, very beneficial, therefore males evolved to be attracted to curves
for media sponsors it is good to have unhappy people, because to them they can sell products to supposedly make them happy
for heavily media influenced people it"s like that:
thin girl: can"t eat what she wants, still not exactly like ideal -> unhappy -> customer
curvy girl: constantly told to look bad -> unhappy -> customer
guy: manipulated into unnatural choice of thin girls, afraid of following natural attraction -> unhappy -> customer
we just don"t conform to media that much, so it"s no wonder we prefer curvy

What's with the stereotype that metalheads aren't slaves to the media just like everyone else?

Do we really feel the need to assert us as some kind of separate entity from the rest of humanity?

PEOPLE are slaves to media, regardless of their "scene". Different groups are targeted in very specific manners. Don't kid yourself - you aren't special because of your musical preferences.

Only when I need to. In this instance, the need was overwhelming.

Nothing pisses me off more than metalheads thinking we're SO DIFFERENT because we listen to kvlt underground br00tal trvu musik or whatever. It's like... get over yourself.

Funny enough, this whole "my taste is better than your taste" discussion is also going on in that redundant "what if the top 20 albums didn't have any 1 votes" or whatever.

I agree with you that media gets its kicks on making people unhappy, and that other people also enjoy to bring the ones around them down. But a lot of girls are basing their unhappiness on what THEY deem attractive.

The media tells me that I should be thinner, taller but that my, ahem, chest attributes are just a bit under the right size. But I'd like to be even shorter and have a lot smaller boobs. My best friend is being told off by other people for being too thin and small, childlike, but she enjoys the fact that she can eat all that she wants and never gain a pound, even if she doesn't have curves. My sister recently went from average height and weight to model height and weight, but she is somewhat unhappy with the state of her body and plans on gaining weight. A lot of curvy girls are perfectly happy with their bodies. A lot of downright fat girls also don't give a fuck.

And what Troy said. Metalheads might not listen to most manufactured music but are prone to other manufactured things because we're human.
