Hey. Just changed the topic and thread to something more basic.

Anyway, I've been looking at how to promote songs to non-metal listeners and to other metal listeners alike or to get real specific recommendations from others without listening album by album.

Say you have 45 seconds to promote a song or a band. The 45 seconds can contain vocals, clean or otherwise, instrumentals, or anything else, but it needs to
define why you love that song enough to endorse it.

Starting things off easily here:

Say if I wanted to promote Black Sabbath with Dio I would do this:

Listen to Neon Knights from from 1:45-2:30 and if that doesn't get your metal horns pumping than I don't know what will.

The first songs that comes to mind are Stranger In Black - Cage, Deadly Sinner - 3 Inches of Blood and Bullet Belt - Gama Bomb. Pretty fast paced and catchy songs with lyrics that pretty much embodies the Metalhtead stereotype. So any 30 sec would be good

Changed it to 45 seconds to allow more room for long ass solos or creepy as fuck shrieks.

Anyway, to be more specific, what exact 45 seconds or less of those songs would you use to promote them?

It's not really 15 more seconds that would make it easier for me to choose, as I tend to listen to an album as a whole.... Let's see. I'm too tired to re-listen to them again so I'll just go with the lyrics.

Stranger In Black

A bottle of whiskey a 12 pack of beer
Drinking and smoking while truing to steer
Cigarette ashes that fall to the floor
My dark sunglasses all things I adore
A larcenous living is not for the faint
I ain't no devil but I ain't no saint
So don't ever knock what you never will try
If you say your life is fulfilled I tell you you die

Deadly Sinners

flash of iron, leather, spikes, and swords!
those mighty warriors with metal on their side!
enemies of metal, your death is our reward!
triumphant victory when you bring the steel to life!
deadly sinners

Bullet Belt

Now we will vaporise the diet metal pansies
The techno enthusiasts will finally pay for their crimes
A new age for thrash metal is finally at hand

This should round up aprox. 45 secs per songs.

and that's why they can't see the full complexity of a song, from death to progressive.

Thanks! I'm glad you like it, those are almost all metal bands I listen to.
Basically melodic death, death, folk, with a few power and progressive metal bands in there.

The 45 secs of Symphony X, and Grave digger were great, my issue with those bands are the voices, its kind of hard for me
to get used to heavy like male voices (took me several years to like stratovarius, angra, and sonata arctica) but regardless of that
those are great bands and those songs really made me want to listen more songs from them, specially Grave Digger cuz i didn't knew
nothing about them, unlike Symphony X which I have listened a lot from them.

About the Death's song I couldn't find any 45 secs to hook up, but that's because I'm not very fond of raw death metal.

Keep posting, this is a very good topic, specially especially to meet new bands, and metal genders!!!!

Some solos, some singing, all good. Threw in a couple of non-metal songs, but they probably rock at least as hard as the others.

Nightwish - Ever Dream? (haven't gotten hugely into Nightwish, but I do appreciate a couple songs) 1:30-2:05

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueUnwQsiLeo

Paradise Lost - The Last Time First 45 seconds

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWpZEYEIThw

Norther - Frozen Angel (No Way Back EP version, the one on N sucks, and that's unfortunately the one I own) First 45 seconds.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9Y8KycT2Mc

Deep Purple - Highway Star (hard to pick just one section that sums this band) 4:15-4:57

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jh0iihjANPc

Deep Purple - Child In Time (did a solo from them for the last one, so gonna go with some the first 45 seconds to show some of the rhythm section)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLvIDfqiri4

Crystal Viper - Night Prowler 0:07-0:52

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Tsrzt6ZT48

Children Of Bodom - Bodom Beach Terror 2:40-3:25

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-P2O5zFXFQ

Armored Saint - Can You Deliver? 0:30-1:15

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESuAv8l9ECs

Angel Witch - Angel Witch 00:19-1:04 or 2:07-2:52

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXZc9-mtFDk

This band got me into metal by combining some clean vocals so I was able to understand about one of out every 20 words and led me to the better stuff. I actually hate the vocals now and was very disappointed in seeing them live. Not a big metalcore fan either.

All That Remains

The Air That I Breathe - First 45 seconds

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jzNxP-_dRI

We Stand 2:01-2:46 (had to get most of the solo in there, first few seconds I wish I could change though)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WUZy9ybnOw

Lynyrd Skynyrd - That Smell (4:30-5:15) Hated the vocals until I heard my favorite part of this song. I'd say this song is as epic as Megadeth's Holy Wars or Rust In Peace in terms of guitar solos.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6q9nBusrq8

Manowar - Carry On 0:40-1:25
