Fade to Black, but the others are also masterpieces.

Fade to Black without a doubt. Although One is my favourite Metallica song, but not as a ballad.

sanitarium is my top favourite song by mettalica so that's my choice for this poll

Nothing Else Matters probably because it's so damn beautiful and it was one of the ballads which got me into Metal. I also love The Unforgiven II which is left out by some reason. Same with Mama Said, one of Hetfield's most emotional moments I'd say.

actually i think his most emotional moment is actually Dyers Eve, read the lyrics and then listen to the song and then you'll understand lmao.

I like the ballads from the Load albums.. Mama said, Low Man's Lyrics, and Unforgiven are good ballads IMO.

fade to black...the lyrics are impressive, the feeling sorrounding everything gives me chills!!

Fade to Black Next to Unforgiven.
FoB gives me good feelings and makes my feel good.

2. The Unforgiven, Fade To Black

Out of the choices given here i would go for Welcome Home (Sanitarium) but i think that we're forgetting a very important one here being To Live Is To Die which to me would be right up there with Sanitarium.

Fade. Never get tired hearing that song, especially live.

Nothing Else Matters is best to ME, . Welcome Home seems the hardest song among there, but I reckon more only lyric. NEM is both deep, beautiful, and optimistic/depressive. Sadly no Unforgiven in the poll, but if it was there then the poll is hard for me to pick.

EDIT: there is Unforgiven but I voted NEM anyway.

Low mans lyric or unforgiven II and now the III, this topic was lame before now with unforgiven III its gonna more lame. mama said! but One is here hehe

I think leaving out The Unforgiven II and III, was a huge oversight. As was "Low Man's Lyric", and "Mama Said". As I love all Metallica's ballads!

Anyways, I'm going with "Fade To Black". I relate to it a lot lyrically, and Kirk gives some of his best guitar work on it. Especially during the final solo!

All of them are great but if i have to chose ,it's fade to black ,i agree about solo

A Tie for Nothing Else Matters and Fade to Black
both are great songs

Hero Of The Day isn't a ballad...not really. It is an amazing song though

I gave in and picked Fade to Black. It was a hard choice though.

I picked Fade because it was the first Metallica song I learned on Guitar and is still a favorite of mine to play because of the emotion of it. Its a great listion as well. Plus it is so convincing that one time this guy in high school scratched the lyrics on his desk and almost everyone(well everyone but me) including the teacher took it as a real suicide note, LOL.

I would like say Bob Seagar orginal vesrion when he sings, Turn The Page, but Metallica make it faster,
from metallica slower songs well its har name, I would say Nothing Alse Metters for me lyrics perfectly fit into muisc and its important, and Uforgiven is good to, deep meaning song, but Welcome Home (Sanitarium) soryy I cn not choose song from thet album I love all album,
