Having a band name loosely inspired by Lord of the Rings is exactly the same as writing lyrics which consist of battles with orcs and elves casting spells and defeating the dark lord or whatever the fuck Lord of the Rings is about.

03.01.2009 - 21:29 Written by Dane Train on 28.12.2008 at 00:44 In his defense the black metal bands he listed in his profile aren't as unoriginal as the plethora of them out there. But yeah, 90% of the shitty black metal bands out there have LOTR related names. How many Nazgul (or other spelling variations of the word with cool letters like "v" or "x" thrown in) bands are there, anyway?

04.01.2009 - 09:16 Written by Zombie, M.D. on 03.01.2009 at 21:29 Regardless, this was a thread simply to compile a list of band names associated with LoTR (as BitterCOld had said), had nothing to do with opinions either way, so his post was really....pointless. He either didn't read the first post or made the false assumption that we all cared.

I dont think that my post was an off-topic (?!) Written by Dane Train on 28.12.2008 at 00:44 Have you ever listened to (atleast) one of them ? Black Metal SHOULD have boundaries and all this flowery middle earth Black Metal is almost as bad as the dungeons and dragons Power Metal. Black Metal should be about hate, violence, intolerance and hell, not fairys, orcs, flowers, love and happiness. Black Metal was formed based on the former and it should stay that way. Alcest's, Summoning's, ... music (For Example) has very little to do with Black Metal and their themes have nothing at all to do with Black Metal, what does this mean? It means Alcest and Summoning are not Black Metal! When bands resort to themes such as love and middle earth faggotry it seriously impairs their credibility as a Black Metal band. It just so happens that the bands who choose to display these themes through their lyrics and ideals also display it through their music by adding such things as pretty keyboard interludes, mystical outerspace ambience, and other various retarded elements. Based on all that, the bands who choose to utilize such elements are not Black Metal at all. Those bands have nothing to do with the original Black Metal, the scene was founded on some basic ideals and style of playing, when those 2 things are completely removed and that other faggotry is added, how can you guys say those bands are Black Metal? The problem is that people see innovation and originality as adding keyboard melodies and clean vocals etc. Black Metal was created out of innovation with many different bands creating their own sound. Just look at the bands from Norway, you had Burzum*, Mayhem, Darkthrone, ... . All undeniably Black Metal and all with a quite different sound. Bands these days just find it easier to follow the formula.

Last i checked, this thread was about metal bands whose names were inspired by LOTR, not a discussion on your interpretations of what black metal should be about. keep it that way.

No one mentioned Silmarils. It's a French nü metal / rap metal band, who didn't speak of Tolkien at all, mostly social issues. But I don't know where silmarils would come from, if not from Middle-Earth. And then there's Morgoth. Their first demo was even called Pits Of Utumno...
