One of my favorite band names would be Immortal...don't know why...it sounds powerful maby?

Just remembered this one today listening to some music when i went out: ...And Oceans. it's like, inconclusive, but at the beggining, or something like that. it's kinda weird but it sounds cool

I like the name Opeth or should i call it "Opet"...the city of the moon...
i like the story to...

Or perhaps Mayhem....that is a pretty good name for a black/death metal band

Personally i think 'Valhalla' is a totally Metal name, it short and to teh point and the idea behind it is wicked.

The most awesome band name ever would have to be !T.O.O.H.! simply because I find it fun to say "TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" It's awesome and hilarious at the same time.

Ooh there are some good ones here! I also like ..And Oceans quite a bit. But my favourite is definitely:

TWILIGHTNING!!!

It's just so evocative.. and pretty silly, too. Ever since I got serious about metal I have proclaimed Twilightning as the best band name ever. It could fit with really ANY genre of metal.. can't you just see some gloomy goth musicians playing up the "twilight" portion? Or some evil death metal band playing up the "lightning" side? Of course the true Twilightning is a hard rock-inspired power metal group, and that works, too!

On Thorns I Lay, Gospel of Horns are two band names that I like, just sound cool.

Just seems like the best name out there, and it really rolls of my tongue. Just hearing their name for the first time I knew they were black metal (lol even though it's from LOTR).

Temnozor is a Russian Folk Black metal band. As for the best sounding name for me I think it would have to be The Breathing Process don't ask why I just think it sounds cool lol

eternal tears of sorrow

The band is great but I've always hated the name. It's very cheesy. Basically any band name that has "eternal" or "tears" or "sorrow" in it is pretty lame.

Onto the good names then, off the top of my head:

Diablo Swing Orchestra - it's very descriptive of their music and it makes you want to find out what kind of a band has such a name. Also it sounds pretty unique and... pretty. Usually I don't like names this long but this is an exception because it goes nicely along with the band's charm. It's like they're saying "this orchestra swings in a diabolic taste."

Nevermore - it's effective and strong, has attitude, sounds good and even looks good. It might have something to do with the frontman Warrel Dane being one of my favorite lyricists in all music and that gives me the image of a verbally talented band in all its aspects and respects. It's always amused me how one of their song titles (Forever) is a word exactly opposed to what the band is called.

Novembre - at first I thought it was a wordplay because it's still pronounced "November", then later I found out the band is from Italy and it made more sense to me. I've always liked month names in band names even when there's nothing else to the name (no matter what language actually, it always clicks with me as long as I know it's a month) and Novembre have chosen the most desciptive one when it comes to the music they play.

Prostitute Disfigurement - no idea about the band's music but the name always makes me smile. It almost makes me want to lie to other people that it's my favorite band just to see how they react to the name, especially if they don't like or know anything about metal. It's extreme enough to be effective but not over the line where it's simply not funny anymore.

Tristania - still no clue what the hell it means but it's a cute name. There's that certain mystery to it but not too much so it isn't confusing. Kind of an ageless name as well. Maybe the beauty is in that the name could mean anything and I'd just like to see people guess what Tristania means. As for me it's always sounded like some hidden little country in central Europe. I'd like to live in a country called Tristania simply because it'd be called Tristania.

Meliah Rage and Kalmah sounds great in my ears

and most bandnames that end with "...tion" , ignition, destruction and so on...

Moon Of Sorrow (Dutch doomish band from early to mid Nineties) http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=816 who took their name of course from the clasic Celtic Frost song Sorrows Of The Moon

The Finnish band Moonsorrow most probably also took their name from that Celtic Frost song

I have to say, Deicide rolls off the tongue quite nicely. Deicide means the killing of a god, which is fucking perfect. Vaginal Jesus is a perfect band name for a 'Hatecore' band hahaha.

Asmodeus is a cool name cause its a demon that inflicts the worst sorta hurt to a human << there heart.
and ExoTeaR is cool cause its my bands name and the mountains, streams, and dark fogs we march the entity of exotear threw is a myth that is beyond my wildest thoughts most of the time <, which makes writing really hard but allways enjoyable to try and make understandable.

I agree with you, the name is kinda kick ass as it is the feeling I get everytime I listen to them.
My only compain would be that the name doesn't have anything to do with their not-gorish-but-really-awesome-lyrics
But well... the name is great and I can't think of another one XD
