Simple. The BM sellout battle. Both COF and DM are identified as the ultimate Black Metal Sellouts. Which one do you prefer? And why? I personally prefer Dimmu. I don't like Danni Filth's voice.

Poll

Which sellout BM band you prefer?

Dimmu Borgir

Cradle Of Filth

I used to be a huge COF fan till I turned 15, lol.
I dont mind some of COF's really famous work but stuff like nymphamphetamine and their more recent stuff really turned me off. Dani Filth is IMO the biggest looser.

I actually like Dimmu Burger so I chose them, yes yes, they probably arent any better, but at least they didnt make nymphamphetamine.

^^^ this made me laugh

I totally agree. I liked CoF like 4 years ago but I don't like them at all now. For some reason I have pretty much all of their albums and the only one I somewhat like is Dusk and Her Embrace.

I think Dimmu Borgir has done a better job progressing than CoF has. Dimmu is experimenting more with symphonic sounds and heavier music, while CoF isn't doing anything new except sucking more with each album they release.

Cradle Of Filth for sure. Dimmu´s new stuff is good but their music has never sounded original to me. Shagrath´s vocals sound alot like Abbath´s vocals. CoF´s early material is so awesome Dani´s vocals are the best I´ve ever heard!!!

Dimmu Borgir for because I love their keyboards and I like their stuff both new and old. When I listen to Dimmu Borgir I can go through an entire album without wanting to change bands when I listen to Cradle Filth I'll listen to like one song then change to something good the one album I probably could listen all the way through though is Midian. I also I agree that Dani Filth is a huge loser.

Dimmu Borgir. I've got all their stuff and have never been disappointed by any of it. I tried giving COF a listen, but just couldn't get into the band. Not quite sure what, but somthing about the band or their music just doesn't do it for me.

I voted Dimmu Borgir for one reason: Cradle of Filth can't be considered as black metal. Maybe the first releases were black metal, but nowadays they're like death metal or something like that. MS's definition for CoF as "extreme gothic metal" is accurated. Dimmu Borgir is a sellout band, yes, but it is real black metal.

Cradle of Filth was never black metal. They might have had a couple of black metal songs on their first two cd's, but not enough for them to be considered black metal.

Still, everyone considers them black. Next to Slipknot.

I chose Dimmu because even though they sold out, they still released two good albums, For All Tid and Stormblast. Cradle of Filth have released NOTHING worth listening to, even their demos suck.

That's, without a doubt, the stupidist thing I've heard today.

COF albums are really good ..... for the genre ! Of course they are worth listening to (except for Nymphetamine), but they have nothing to do with bm and aren't really interesting to bm fans because they lack rawness and simplicity.

And Goths and BMers aren't usualy loving each other.

This is like the Metallica trend, now is the trend of "Let's say Cradle of Filth sucks" and everybody say it, without thinking, like a bunch of sheeps. I'm not into the extreme genres cuz I don't like the vocals, I just like Dimmu Borgir and some others, also like a couple of Cradle of Filth's songs, but you should be more respectful and just listen to the music, no more, but don't start to blast my mind with this senseless comments... u are all saying the same... I don't think it would be that bad

Dimmu is as sold out as COF ... But this is not the what the topic ask about... Dimmu have f*cking great abuns, as COF... the last Dimmu's cd, is totaly sold out... as COF... The vocals are both artificial... I can not say witch one is better... but I prefer COF with no doubt ... Dani rules

@Dam3k
Well, Metallica does suck, coming from an extreme metallist that has loved their early stuff till master of the puppets, their recent stuff is bad.

I used to be into Cof and I could tell you as an extreme metal fan that Cof isnt to my standards and IMO dont like it so much. Danis voice is annoying and the musicians are respectable, but the band as awhole is so overthe top sometimes.

I mean the thing I've noticed with COF is that some songs are quite good (I enjoyed Saffron's Curse, and other songs with a guitar solo) and others just get repetitive and all that the song really consists of is Danni's vocals and some symphonics. Dimmu Borgir on the other hand was a great band before and continued to make great music ever since. I even enjoyed the newest CD Deathcult Armageddon other than the low production quality of the sound. Otherwise, it's very melodic and great composition of songs such as Progenies of the Great Apocalypse, Eradication Instincts Defined, and Blood Hunger Doctrine. Someone please tell me what makes these bands sellouts by the way? Is it because they make music that is more dynamic than the run of the mill black metal? Actually, I ask because I am highly uninformed.

anyone who denies any link parallels between COF's early stuff and black metal is either mentally handicapped or a is trying too hard.

this thread had failed from the start. why is it still here?

only the first album had some bm, elements. With Dusk... they changed to a kind of goth metal.

Yes, it had ELEMENTS, but it was mainly death metal on the first demos

Hands down Dimmu Borgir. I mean, their sound may have evolved through the years and is no longer BM. But, they are still good, CoF has never really tickled my fancy. Just a little bit in their beginning, that is all. Dimmu Borgir has always had good music and you cannot say it is bad unless you're mentally incapacitated. It's just not pure BM anymore. I still listen to Dimmu every now and then. But... I'm actually looking forward to this next album to see the next step in their evolution.

so theres absolutely nothing black metal about cruelty and the beast?

then explain why they were considered black metal by the majority up until the release of midian? they even played live with gogoroth in 1998

@ Tommy tee: GORGOROTH IS SELL-oUTS!!!! (phun intended..)

No but seriously I would difinitly go for Dimmu Borgir. Mainly because I can enjoy all their material more or less. I actually like some CoF songs but overall I think CoF lacks the greatness of early Dimmu Borgir (For all tid , Stormblåst and Enthrone Darkness Triumphant)

There is of course some bm influences in some of the riffs. But the whole songs are way too diluted by various non-bm elements to be considered bm. Oh, and about the show that's a pointless argument. I've seen hardcore bands opening for Kreator. Bands in the same shows aren't always playing the same kind of music.

Now if you'll excuse me i have better things to do than starting another endless thread about wether or not cradle is bm or not.

Nah, lyrics have nothing to do with the music genre, what so ever. There are lots of BM bands who sing about vampires and stuff (Darvulia). Shure, every genre has a general lyric theme, but this does not mean, that every BM band has to sing about hatred and death ...

Whether they are labelled sellouts or not doesn't bother me much, but I definitly choose Dimmu borgir since I only ever liked one COf song and also Dani Filth has an irritating personality. As for Dimmu borgir I like some of their albums, especially the norwegian ones.

I was under the impression that black metal should be about deviance, nature, etc. It just seems like CoF has too many gothic themes, even in their old stuff, to be considered black metal.
