07.09.2010 - 23:50 Written by Introspekrieg on 07.09.2010 at 23:30 yeah, i would have picked it up in about 15 seconds, figuring a few to glance over the list, a couple seconds for a doubleatke, about 5 seconds to process "Charlemagne" even on the second glancing knowing this list was made to get a rise out of people. i wouldn't have immediately responded, though. i would rather have waited for a dozen or so people (who clearly don't know your tastes nor get sarcasm) to start ripping it and you to shreds before jumping in to laugh at them. but someone had to blow the whistle early and put a quick end to what could have been a lot of fun. then again so many people visiting this site, as we've seen time and again from the arena, are just "stimulus-response" and will jump on that list before even reading the next couple posts where it becomes apparent you're pulling our collective legs.

I'm interested in Fuck Doom Metal. Sounds intriguing. i'm off to look for their albums! Edge of Sanity released "Crimson" which, due to it being one 40 minute song, can be called progressive, but it'd be stretching it. Nothing else in their discography is progressive... So they can't be called prog.

Account deleted Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 08.09.2010 at 12:48 I don't think it's that unfair to label Crimson, a mid 1990's 40 minute long concept song that combines death metal, some black metal and leitmotifs, as progressive. Moontower might have been a better choice however. And technically Crimson II is one song split into 44 or something sections so...

Dying fetus is most certainly slam death metal ... they're pioneers of the fucking genre.. its like saying that "death" ain't death metal .. dying fetus started the trend, other bands took it and developed it (devourment, for say).. but fetus is SURELY slam .. infact, the first time the term "slam death metal" was used was in a review of the dying fetus debut album "Purification through violence"

No i dont, apparently you use encyclopedia metallum. fetus started out as some kind of brutal death but introducing alot fo the elements of what would be known as slam death metal .. then, they shifted into a more technical direction ... then, they now mix both, the slam thing with the technical. and btw, if you're still unable to see how are they technical it is because you think technical death metal is necrophagist

How foolish of you to assume that. I barely listen to Necrophagist. Whenever I think of tech death, first band that comes to mind is Atheist. I don't really remember Dying Fetus as technical, unless tech death has low standards.

It doesn't always matter what subgenre a reviewer puts bands in - I see weird stuff like that all the time, including this site (calling everything brutal death metal, not knowing the difference between grind and death, etc.). Just because a band has some elements of another subgenre doesn't mean they're defined with that label. The first legitimate slam band that I can think of from the top of my head would be Internal Suffering from the early 90's. I can see how someone would lump Dying Fetus into the technical category, but in the end they're just death metal. The drumming and guitars are very technical at times, but the bar has been raised very high in the last few years, and bands generally don't get lumped into the technical category unless they're proggy or just out-of-the-world technical. BTW, I've never even really considered tech death to be a legitimate genre because there's just too big of a gray line between prog death/tech death/death metal, and people seem to have higher technical expecatations than others. Uh, to make this stay on topic, the one leader of a genre (death metal) that I can surely decide on would be Dying Fetus (oh, and grindcore would go to Pig Destroyer).

Death metal in general? Because when that's mentioned, I usually think of old school '80s/early '90s death metal bands.

Athiest is jazz-death metal fusion band.. they're very specific .. like Cynic .. yes they can be called technical death metal but they're a very defined ... same like necrophagist and spawn of posession, very neo-classical oriented.. while technical death metal isn't just death metal with good solos, or with melodic riffs ... technical death metal ranges a very wide spectrum, dying fetus, athiest, and necrophagist ALL three can be considered tech. death even though they vary greatly in sound.. so, technical death metal can be vaguely defined as a subgenre of death metal that is more complex and developed in song structure, so, when a dying fetus track that is 4 minutes long has more than 18 different riffs, it IS technical death metal, and when there are 4 to 5 shifts in tempo and time signature on average per fetus track, then they ARE technical ... and the added bonus of complex techniques such as tapping rythm (praise the lord.. i urge u to check out its guitar pro tab and come back at me ) ... so, dying fetus ARE technical as fuck in my opinion, and their latest two album mix the grooviness of slam with the technicality .. in my opinion they're one of the best death metal bands out there EDIT: did you check out the guitar pro tab yet ? here's a downlod link: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/d/dying_fetus/praise_the_lord_opium_of_the_masses_guitar_pro.htm also, check out this bass cover: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYDdFMMD0FQ EDIT 2: Haha, i win LOL
